  1. Should I be worried?

Our case hasn't been reopened and there has been no message of any RFE being sent. In fact all the times I called the VSC or NVC nobody could locate our case (or bothered to try). Emails to the NVC and the Moscow consulate on the matter went unanswered.

  3. I have become so depressed. Our case hasn't been touched and no RFE. Has anyone out there with an interview scheduled in Moscow been touched or sent an RFE? Should I be worried? Is there anything at all thatcan be done?

  4. We would be better off if the discriminatory aspects of this law were removed and that it was made universal - all those marrying US or foreign must submit to background checks. l

I think George Orwell just laughed in his grave....

    i agree..

You do know I was making a point and that I think this entire law is flawed. We are closer to George Orwell than you might think. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and IMBRA is the first on ramp.

  5. I hope nobody took offense to my postings as I was just being sarcastic to point out the absurdity of this all. I respect dissenting opinions and know that those posting here mean well. With one exception that is - Imbra2005. Tell us who you are and why you are here. Be truthful. Clearly you aren't looking to process a visa and have an alternative agenda. In terms of full disclosure, here's who I am.

Like I stated previously, I am a lifelong democrat and egalitarian. I am also a man who is in love to a wonderful woman I met while vacationing in Russia. Although I did not meet my fiance through an agency I would be just as happy and proud of her if I had. She is my soulmate, my poet, my protector, my angel, and the love of my life. Her interview was scheduled for the 29th of June which would mean we would be days away from starting our new joyful life together. 30 days ago I recieved a call from the Moscow Embassy that the interview had been cancelled and our petition returned due to IMBRA. We cancelled wedding plans, airline tickets, and dreams of being together. Now neither the NVC, USCIS, or Moscow Consulate can even find our petition much less tell us what to do or give us any information. Our nervousness and sadness increase daily. At best we are 3 months away at worse the delay seems endless.

Oh, and in the words of Richard Nixon, "I am not a criminal". Although in his case he actually was :)

  6. Furthermore, IMBRA2005 has been asked on many occaisions to identify themselves so that we might more fairly judge their words. But the silence is deafening, and it is prudent to consider them the fox in the henhouse. I too have to presume that IMBRA2005 is a paid public relations representative, a hired gun, who's job it is to mold public perception, and indeed in this case- exercise damage control.

If this is true they are paying too much for her (or him, or they).

  7. I think the same background information should be asked of men marrying woman from Alabama or who earn less than 20K/year and don't have access to resources. I thought about adding friendless woman or those with small families that don't have access to social etworks but it gets too complicated. it's a small burden and if we save just one life this way...

Also, what do you think about joining up with IMBRA2005 in shutting downthese outrageous sights like loveme.com which deplorably sell women like so much ecommerce goods? This will require additional legislation and we'll need to band together to get things rolling with the politicians. I hear Maria Cantwell might be sympathetic to our cause.

  8. Now I see. So this isn't just IMBRA (which I now support) but the fact that woman are being placed on sites as if they were so much goods. This is deplorable. IMBRA clearly won't solve this since it is not designed to shut down services like loveme.com. We need to work together to shut down international dating services. This will require additional legislation. If you support me on IMBRA for Alabama and Imbra for woman making less than $20K/year, I will help support new legislation shutting down dating services with poor ecommerce asthetics. Should we leave dating sites that use politically correct methods of introducing men or just shut down the whole lot of them. I'm with you either way. Let's go!

  9. I am not a lawyer but I know that discrimination applies to both opportunity and burden. Both John Roth and Gary have written on their web sites why this may be unconstitutional and I would refer you to their sites.

As for comparison between foreign brides and resources. I know there is a correlation between violent crime and income level. There is also a correlation between income and access to resources (lawyers, internet, etc.). This is why in addtion to IMBRA for Alabama, I support IMBRA for woman making less than $20,000 a year. Further studies of course need to be done but both laws would help protect helpless woman who are either poor and lack access to resources or are unfortunate enough to be born in a high domestic violence state like Alabama.

  10. So a law should be written on the odds? I'm sure if you created enough studies and enough subdivisions you could find a group of american woman who are even more at risk than the average foreign woman. Womane who meet men on Match.com? Woman younger than 20? Woman who didn't go to college? Should we legislate in all cases where the odds are against the woman?

Do we really think IMBRA will have an impact on domestic abuse in this country? The only cases would be men who have a criminal record and woman who choose to heed this information. Having been stopped in this way, what's to stop the man from then looking locally now that his foreign ambitions have been shut down. Or just looking for another until he finds one that will ignore his background and accept his explanations. Perhaps he will just becamoe a sex tourist and kill woman on foreign soil. Murderers can be quite adaptable.

Finally where's the law to protect DV abusers. There are plenty of those coming over so that woman aren't the only victim. Currently many consulates give out pamphlets essentially giving a roadmap to potentially unscrupulous foreign brides on how to use domestic violence as a way to instant green cardship no questions ask. Just search google on Maxx DV to see ho aweful this can be.

Men and woman have been lying to each other for ages and the government should not be legislating here.

  11. "Imbra2005" is is obviously either a paid lackey or a graduate student in woman's studies with too much time on her (or his) hands. This is feel good legislation with feel good intent but discriminatory consequences. That the psupposed oor helpless immigrant woman is in need protection is a discrimnation of low expectations. We would be better off if the discriminatory aspects of this law were removed and that it was made universal - all those marrying US or foreign must submit to background checks. After all abuse exists across all types of marriages in all categories of people. The outcry on such a law would get a lot of politicians like Maria Cantwell fired.

It may suprise folks that I am a lifelong Democrat and a supporter of all things egalitarian (woman's rights, gay rights, etc) but on this law I am a liberatarian - the government should not be mucking in these areas particularly in ways that clearly discriminate against one class of poeple unfairly (those marrying foreign as opposed to those marrying US). I have no doubt eventually this law will be struck down. I am liberal but liberal elitists who refer to endless research and studies in support of poor policy give us all a bad name.

Keep in mind there is an ignore feature in this forum.

  12. Folks, I don't mean to be a conspiracy theorist but they might actually be lying about the cases not being there. This would explain why rlt was told it was there (before the lie became policy) and then his fiance was told it wasn't there later. Why would they lie? To keep us from insisting they send out immediate RFEs particularly since I confirmed they are doing background checks on all of us.

Again, the time has not come yet to take collective action. However, if 30 or even 60 days pass without any movement it will be onother story and I think we'll have pretty strong motivation. For this reason I ask that everyone here do what they can in other forums to gather as many in our shoes here as possible. There are appx 1000 unlucky souls who are in the same unhappy state that we are. If we could just find 10% of the affected people there are some pretty amazing things we could do with politicians, the press, lawyers, etc. Individually we can just be ignored until we dissapear.

  13. (And I'm sure you know this but whatever you do, don't mention any ceremonies, unofficial though they may be, to any immigration officials; this has been grounds to deny fiance visas in the past! Have a great trip.)

Thanks! I didn't know that and might have tripped up. Proves once again how valuable it is when we get together like this to share information.

And do NOT provide any pictures from your ceremony as evidence of your relationship... anything that even LOOKS like a wedding celebration will cause you great heartache....

Is this just your opinion, or do you have solid evidence of this. They can't denie a petition because your pictures look like a wedding. They would have to prove that you are legally married. All you have to do is get a single status paper, which proves you are not married. My fiancee wore a wedding dress we bought in her country, at her parents request for the engagement ceremony. In my fiancee's country they have a traditional engagement ceremony which is damn close to wedding.

I beg to differ. It seems they can do whatever the h*ll they want to. As for rlt hearing this time that his petition may not be there - it confirms my previous email and my worst suspitions. They may be lying, do not know, do not care, or something worse. I strongly encourage all of us to stay gathered here and continue to share information and support. There may be a time when we collectively need to take action. It may do us no good but there is more power in numbers so gathering as many of us here as possible may prove useful when it's time to make more noise.

  14. Well.. I don´t know what to think.

If they don´t have your case there, it makes sense that it hasn´t been updated online.

But the lady told me yesterday that my case is in vermont.

So why they don´t update my status?

If my case is there and people who applied last week got the RFE sent to them, what else do they need to send me the damn thing?

    I´m calling them again today.

There are many things that could be going on that whould cause us not to accept what they say at face value:

    1. Your person had access to an unprocessed pile and took the initiative to look whereas my person did not

    2. My person is wrong about my case NOT being there.

    3. My person was told the recieved cases were being entered but the are in actuality not (she seemed cynical as she said this)

    4. The will be entered but they haven't gotten around to it due to the backlog

    5. Even that they lie to get us off the phone - who knows?

The bottom line is this is a mess and the people there are probably tired, overworked, and/or probably just apathetic. I only get one sense from all this and that is that the system is broken and the people in USCIS could care less about doing the right thing or the fact that they are monkeying with peoples lives and dreams.

  16. OK, this just makes me more angry. the lady was nice but said the following:

They do not have record of my case arriving but it may still have arrived but not been entered (I mentioned I was told it was sent a month agow from the Moscow Consulate)

As cases come in they will enter it in the system so that it can be viewed online (I told her that others were not seeing this, have any of you?)

I have to wait 30 days to call again as they do not entertain calls until 30 days have elapsed (how can this be!!! They make a mistake and I'm not even allowed to call escept after 30 days have passed?? I have a cancelled interview. This is absolutely outrageous!!!)

The last thing she said is just unnacceptable. When I return in 10 days from my marrigae in Russia (unnofficial just the vows and party) I am going to call and if they do not accept the call I it will become my full time job making them accountable for their mistake. I can't believe these people.

  17. 1-800-375-5283

select options 1->2->6->1 and enter your case number after you'll hear your case status select option 3

and than 2 to be connected directly to VSC

Whoever decide to call them, please post here any information you get, ok?

    cheers

There were some steps missing. Here is the correct sequence to get to Vermont. An aside - this is the most ridiculous system ever. Any other sequence take you to a set of operators in Las Angelas that know absolutely NOTHING

    1-800-375-5283

    1 - For english

    2 - Application already filed

6 - Check on status of case or other questions

1 - You know your reciept number

    Enter EACXXXXXXXXXX

1 - To confim correct EAC number

Information for case revealed (approved 04/12/3006, notice mailed)

3 - Continue to next step

    2 - Haven't gotten a notice mailed to you

1 - If a notice has not been mailed to you

BTW, I am on hold and will provide an update when I learn something

  18. No one here who has a recalled interview with approved NOA2 has yet recieved an RFE, notice of an RFE, or a new interview.

At least one person has reported being told by the NVC that their petition was recieved. Myself and others were told there is no record of it being recieved. Since some of them were mailed a month ago (mine included) so I'm not sure whether our applications were lost, never sent back, or that the NVC simply haven't logged them or informed their systems and operators that they've arrived. Which one is the case is anyone's guess.

What is most troubling is that NONE of us in the recalled status is being given any direction or assurances our cases are being taken care of. That others without approved petitions are receiving RFEs and moving forward in the process when the recalled already approved petitions are stalled is very disturbing. I do not agree with those that say we should not panic and just wait to see. I think this process has gone terribly wrong and that we should begin taking collective action to raise the volume and have our concerns heard.

Lewis, do you have any advice for us on contacting our representative's? Any template letters or proven ways to begin the conversation. I have this fear of walking into her offices and being looked at as an annoyance and a bother. Or of writing an email/letter and having it be ignored.

    Contacting Congress:

    http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/

  19. Here is what I have to share so far:

Called Vermont - No record of having recieved the application

Called USCIS - No record of having recieved the application, suggested I write them a letter

What confuses me further is the USCIS representative said she didn't expect them to be sent to the NVC but straight to the processing center (Vermont). Some have reported confirmation from the NVC that their application went there. So where are the embassy's sending this stuff, to NVC or USCIS? The letter from my consulate clearly states it's the NVC.
