  1. When answering 156 questions: My Fiancée from mainland China has a Hong Kong passport and has been to Hong Kong several times. Should I consider Hong Kong part of China?

If your fiancee is a resident in Hong KOng or she work in Hong Kong then she can have her interview in Hong Kong US Consulate. I think the processing in Hong Kong is a lot faster than in China.

  2. Ampi-Hmm...The cops cannot ask for your SS card either...As that number is supposed to be kept private.....

If you give your card/number out....That is a risk for identity theft!

Lol..I have yet to meet a cop that asks for an SS card...lol..

As well, non-US citizen SS cards are pretty much the same as the US citizen SS cards...

So that doesn't prove anything either, other than you have work/employment status here in the USA...

Heck, even people on temporary work visas, student visas, etc. have SS cards.....

You should though, update your US Citizenship status with the SS office, regardless......

Likewise, it's the same with a regular driver's license...

Proves that one can drive...and is a resident of that particular state..

Other than that...It doesn't prove US citizenship status either....

Your best bet is a US passport......(or other WHTI document...), to prove US Citizenship status....

    Hope this helps too...

PrinceandPrincess-Congrats on the baby! Cute! smile.gif Good luck on your parents' application too..

    Ant

    HI Ant,

Thanks for a really good advice not to give out the SS number. You are absolutely right about the risk of identity theft. Sorry I didn't think about that headbonk.gif I remember my hubby told me not to give our SS number over the phone. We don't carry our SS cards we kept it in our safety box.

By the way thanks my baby is 4 months old now. She keep me busy everyday. Congratulations on becoming a US citizen! You're finally done with the US immigration... such a wondewrful feeling!

Well, just a thought that I'm going to deal with the immigration again drives me crazy. If I could get someone (nanny) that I could trust to take care of my baby here in the US while I'm going back to school then I'm not going to petition my parents. (No choice hubby doesn't want me to go back to work nor school). So, we decided to deal with all the immigration hassle again. But having my parents around... is priceless! good.gifgood.gifgood.gif

    How's you baby doing?

    Hi Chazzie,

Good luck on your interview! good.gifgood.gifgood.gif

  5. First, Congratulations!

This might be a silly question but I want to ask what proof of identifications you carry around with you now that you are basically done with immigration process .Aside from your driver's license, work ID's, etc., are you carrying a US passport or perhaps a copy of it in your wallet/purse also just in case you get pulled over by an immigration officer and question your immigration status?

    Thanks for any inputs.smile.gif

    Hi Ampi,

    Ant is right! good.gifgood.gifgood.gif

Cannot carry a photocopy of the certificate, as on the certificate itself it says, "It is illegal to make photocopies..."

Cannot carry the original certiicate with me....As it can get stolen, lost, damaged, etc. that way. And who the heck carries around a $675 original ($400 replacememnt) piece of paper around with them...lol

When you got your Naturalization Certificate you can go to SS office and update your status that you are US citizen. This might help just in case you get stop by the cops. I don't know if the cops will ask you for your SS card though aside from your DL. Never stop by the cops yet, hope not headbonk.gifheadbonk.gif I just carry my DL al the time.

  6. Hello my friends,

This question is from my mom that does not have a VJ account yes.gif

I just want to know if how long does it take from sending the application paper until they interview you?

My mom lives in San Diego. Thanks yes.gif

    Thanks alot my friends.

    Hi,

    Here's my N-400 timeline:

Date Filed: 07-17-2009 (USPS with tracking number)

    NOA Date: 07-24-2009

    Bio Appt : 08-15-2009

    Interview Date: 09-29-2009 (6:30 AM)

    Oath Ceremony: 09-29-2009 (1:30 PM)

Please note that the immigration processing is case to case basis. I sent all the required documents on my original submission of my N-400 and I didn't received an RFE. RFE makes the processing a little bit longer. Also, not all immigration offices have the same day oath ceremony.

Good luck on your mom's journey!

  7. My wife and I recently took a trip to Hong Kong and we had a great time, but my wife was detained in the airport and interogated for hours with a few other Filipino women, while she was there she was asked questions about our relationship, why she was there and who i was. the man who held her even tried to tell her that we were 10 years apart in age. which we are not. which leads me to believe he was trying to confuse her. right off the bat the man told her she was beautiful and said that he loved her and my wife did not like that at all, it was a middle eastern man who could speak tagalog. anyways after showing pictures of me she was able to wait in the baggage claim. after the trip i found a story just like mine on the internet except the filipino women were given strip searches, im so glad my wife did not have to go through that. Anyways for the remainder of our trip the local chinese and Indian people would stare or inappropriately look at my wife whenever we walked by on the street with looks of disdain sometimes even point and laugh when they were behind us and they thought we couldnt see them. It was very obvious what was going on. I also sort of got the impression Filipinos are kind of like second class citizens there(which i sort of found out was the case after the fact) you see them looking after white families kids or chinese families kids. Like a caste system or slavery. I did not expect that at all. What do you guys think?

    Hi Mikhail,

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's experienced during your trip to Hong Kong. My husband and I stayed in Hong Kong for almost one week when we went home to visit my family in the Philippines last 2008. We never had any problem. I was a Philippine passport holder that time. As far as I know that the immigration officer will only detained an individual if they need to verify some info from their computer in that particular passenger. Did your wife asked the immigration officer why she got detained?

  8. Sure hope you people who are trying to bring their elderly parents here can afford the medical care for them here.

Sometimes it works out they can get better care in the Philippines staying with family.

Most people in the US don't have time to care for them as they have to work our buttes off just to maintain our own trip. That includes sending bucks back to PI for health care for the family.

    That's our trip anyway.

My husband and I can afford to get medical insurance for my parents. My hubby make more than 100,xxx thousand and I make more than 40,xxx thousand. Our annual income is about 150, 000 or more a year.

There's no problem if my parents wants to go back (PI) and forth on immigrants visa. Money is not an issue at all.

  9. Your case has to be completed at NVC first before they can send your file to the embassy...that means they need the DS-230 package before they can complete your case barring any more RFEs yes.gif

    Hi rhowin,

I have some questions hope you don't mind.

    How much the:

    1. AOS

    2. IV fee

    3. Medical

Also, what are the documents did you sent for your I-130? I'm going to send my I-130 petition for my mom and my dad next month.

    Thanks,

    Princess

  10. hello,

i took my mom to the interviewed yesterday the immigration officer found that my mom had no birth certificate issued by NSO she just only birth certificate municipal register . the officer did was gave piece of paper and stating missing the certify copy of BC which is from NSO the officer is very helpful she telling where we get and where we send and is about a month or 30 days to send it back from immigration and after that the time she can send approval letter . mom said she dont have record from NSO we afraid that happen. and i asked that what if my mom had no record to the NSO she said provide a letter and bring to the U.S Embassy of Manila and i dont know what they gonna do for it.

i wonder if that NEW things to do that if your proceeding to the interview or going to the interview you should get birth certificate from NSO. but we dont mind to get one so,

any happen same situation like this pls. share yours and i m glad to accept your comments.

    Hi!

I will send my I-130 petition for my mom and my dad next month. If you don't mind I have some questions.

    1. From start (Sent I-130) to your mom's interview how long is the processing (many months)?

    2. Just very curious... did the US Embassy in Manila allowed you to go inside with your mom at the interview room?

    3. Also, did you went with your mom inside St Luke during her medical?

My mom is 71 y.o and my dad is 76 y.o both are in good health. I'm just worried coz both only speak few tagalog. My dad speak fearly good English but my mom only very little.

    Thanks,

    Princess
