  1. Hello,

My husband recently became a US citizen (yay!!). We are wondering if anyone else in here is from Spain and understands the process for retaining their Spanish citizenship after becoming a US citizen (essentially to gain dual citizenship). Some sites mention having to visit the Spanish embassy in the US to do this (which in our case, would be San Francisco - not exactly convenient). Would love to hear about your experience.

    Thank you!

  2. Hi Everyone, Wondering if you can help us (forgive me if this should be posted elsewhere...hard to find). My husband is applying for Citizenship through marriage, and Part 9 on Form N-400 is giving us lots of problems. It is asking for the number of days/trips outside the US in the last 5 years, but he only moved to the US 3 years ago when we got married. Are we supposed to include all the days he lived outside the US before marriage in the "total days outside the US" count, minus the number of days he came to visit me in the US...or?

  4. Hi everyone,

My husband submitted his I-751 packet in September and received email notification on September 21 that it was received. The email said, "Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number." However, it has now been over a month and we have not received the letter.

When checking his case status online, it says "We mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice."

Has anyone else had this problem? Is the current letter-mailing process delayed?

    Thank you!

  5. Hello everyone,

My husband has been in the US for nearly the last two years on a K1 visa. The co-sponsor for our petition recently married and moved; I neglected to remind her of the requirement to notify the USCIS of a change of her address within 30 days. It has now been several months since her move, and she has legally changed her last name as a result of her marriage. Has anyone had an experience with filing a change of address late, and was there a fine? Second, will her change in legal name affect anything? My husband will be applying to lift conditions on his visa this spring so we want to be sure everything is in order. Thank you!

  6. Hi  - I am wondering if anyone has experience applying for Global Entry as a US permanent resident? My husband came here from Spain on a K-1 fiance visa, we got married one year ago, and last October he was issued his permanent resident card, valid for 2 years (until we have the next interview). I read on NEXUS's website that you need to be a permanent resident for 3 years to qualify for that program, but I haven't been able to find such a condition for Global Entry. Does anyone know if someone can apply for Global Entry if they've only been a permanent resident less than one year? Thank you!

  7. Hi everyone,

My husband and I just received an RFE for his AOS, requesting us to get a co-sponsor. A friend of ours raised two questions --

    1) Would being a co-sponsor on form I -864 affect her ability to get a mortgage? (Is that information shared?)

    2) Would it affect her ability to adopt a child?

Thank you for any help you can offer in answering these questions!

  8. Hello Everyone,

My spouse and I submitted his AOS in May; this week we received an RFE, saying my income does not meet the requirements on my form I -864 affidavit of support. I submitted multiple documents verifying that my income for the past year does in fact meet the requirements (letter from my employer, copies of last 6 months check stubs, letter from my bank showing my deposits for last year, etc). I have a feeling they only looked at my last 3 year's tax returns and issued the denial (none of which met the requirements, as I was abroad with him significant portions of those years and unable to work). Has anyone had any experience with contacting USCIS and arguing against their findings? Would this only delay the process further if I tried to do this?

The letter, of course, said I can get a co-sponsor, but that would create implications for another that I don't want to subject them to, so I'd like to avoid it if possible.

However, if I do get a co-sponsor, does anyone know if the liability of each co-sponsor (myself included) would be equal to half of whatever amount the state would ask to be reimbursed, if (in a completely unexpected scenario) my spouse were to apply for welfare?

Thank you for any experience/knowledge you may have on this topic!

  9. Hello Everyone!

I live rather a nomadic lifestyle...I've had several different mailing addresses in the last couple of years, and am about to change it again. Likewise, when my fiancé arrives in the US, the "address we intend to live at" will change once again. Has anyone had any experience with this being looked down upon in the K1 visa process? Do they verify mailing addresses to make sure I've included them all in the I-129F?

    Thanks for your help!

    Rebecca
