  1. Hi everyone, More questions from me O.o I know sorry. So my question is ... if i have a co-sponsor do they need to be an USC or can they be a legal resident in the US. I'm the sponsor USC, of my husband. We were going to use our assets but after talking with a lawyer, he told us proving the assets would be so difficult and using a co-sponsor would be much easier. The only person we know who could do this isn't a USC but a legal resident. Could we use this person or not? Thanks again!

  2. I have no credit. The last time I was in the US I was a university student. And I didn't work or rent. I just attended school. So really I have ZERO to go on. I had I think a credit card over 12 years. But doesn't your record zero out after 7 years? And we're not in the US yet so no job even. We're still at the visa stage ... but a requirement is to be establish domicle in the US again. So I was thinking of housing ...

  3. hi everyone,

A question ... I've been looking online for info about housing in the US. I'm a USC who has been out of the US for now over 10 years. I know to rent an apt or house we need credit. But both my husband and I have no credit. Nor do we have anyone to cosign for us. Nor do we even want to ask anyone. So who does someone rent a place in the US with no credit ? Any clue? Thanks!

  4. Hello everyone,

Just out of curiousity ... Are there any petitioners on this forum who have filed directly from the Algiers embassy, as there is no DCF in Algeria. I'm curious about the process, is it the same as if you were filing from the US? Is there a timeline difference? And finally here who would care to "friend" me/us on this journey? Thanks very much!

  5. Hello everyone,

    Another question ... sorry :(

Ok so reading about the process, it seems one needs to prove their relationship is legit. I've been married to my husband 12 years, with 3 children. And we've lived together all during that time. We met in Europe while we were both in uni. I have a few tidbits from our past like few letters, photos from our wedding, etc but things that I've read about ticket stubs, chat logs, etc I don't have things like this. I'm wondering ... maybe obvious and rather stupid question but with a marriage this long how much evidence would they ask for? I mean are our wedding pics, pics taken over the years, birth cert of my kids and pics as family enough? Since I don't have much stuff/evidence from when we were dating. And where can I find out how many actual (the number or estimation) evidence we need? I mean is there a minimum amount?Thank you everyone.

  6. @tasakchy:

What does it mean "valued in USD"? It's value estimated in USD or someone from US/US embassy needs to estimate/appraise its value? Sorry for my ignorance on the topic. Rough estimate our assets are around 100,000USD ... half of which is money in bank (here, not in the US) and other half is property. We just bought a new car (cash) last winter before our plans to return to the US. This can't be used on the AOS unless we sell it, right?! I only ask since roughly we might be about $6,000 short. I'm sure we could come up with the money but I'm curious about the car, since cars loss value unlike property. Also do the assets have to be in my name? Or can they be in my husband's name? Or joint?

    @Shauneg:

It's fine. Thank you for replying. It's all so confusing LOL

@everyone ... Thank you everyone for your help!

  7. Hello everyone,

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for this great informative forum. I have a few questions as I'm not finding the answers ... and not really sure if we can/should file.

LIttle background story. My husband and I are married 12 years, with 3 children. I got married with my husband in Europe while in the university. I'm the USC. And I have lived abroad with my husband for 11 years now. My children are all USC. I have no income. My husband supports me and my children. And his income is abroad, as non-USC so we have no income in the US or assets in the US. But we do have foreign currency and property abroad. We'd like to move to the US but I as I said I'm not if it's possible.

1- Do I have file for all my family or only my husband including the affidavit of support?

2 - Since there is no possiblity for a co-sponsor how much and what can we us as assets? From my understanding it's 5x the income needed? If this correct?

3 - And since I have not lived in the US - I have had no income or tax filed ... how will this influence our case? Will it automatically be denied?

    Thank you very much
