  1. Hello All! The 3 weeks mark has now passed. Last week, ustraveldocs went from "your passports are in the embassy" to completely blank. And on CEAC, my fiance's kids were listed as 'ready' but his was listed as "admistrative processing", they now all say 'ready'. My gut tells me this means they are in transit to Santiago, where we specified pick up. But on CEAC, above the status, it says that 'ready' means the application is ready for interview, fingerprints, etc... But we've already done that.

    Any thoughts from your experience?

    Thank you!

  2. It's been a week and they say the passports are still at the Embassy.

We're not in a super hurry. He has some things to take care of before coming here, I'm still getting the house ready, and we'll probably get his son's arm operated on bc it's cheaper there.

Atlanta is an option. I've been through ATL before and I don't recall it being as bad as Miami. Newark is also an option, but I've never been through there. I'm not going to buy tickets till we have passports in hand, but I'll have to shop around.

Thank you all for your input!

  3. Hello all!

I just got back from our interview! My fiance and 3 children's visa was approved! YAYYAYAYA!

So now we wait. The lady said 2-3 weeks for their passports to come back. What has your experience been?

Also, making my way back, through Miami, gave me nightmares of bringing them through there. Which airport is better for coming to America?

Also, will i be able to stick with them or will they be on their own, while I go through the citizen line? I dont want to leave them. It's scary enough as a citizen thats done it before. Any suggestions or experiences are helpful.

    Thank you!

  4. Hello! My man and kids are getting ready for their medical exams. The instructions for the clinics say that they need more photos, but I feel like I've read on here before that they take the photos there. Do they need to get more photos taken and take them with them or can they just take them there. And if they take them there, is there an additional fee for this or is it included in the exam costs?

Related question - The exam/vaccination fees listed on the website, are they legit? Or do they charge more there? I'd like to make sure he has enough money.

    Thank you!

  5. Hello all!

I'm about to set an interview for my K-1 fiance and 3 children. I'm trying to use a little vacation time from work right now, because I'll need it when they get here. Could I fly back to the states the afternoon of the interview? Is there any chance of them requesting something or to see us the next day or anything that would be best if I have a day of cushion?

    Thanks!

    Happy New Year!

  6. Hello! We're at the point of scheduling our interview!!! I'm trying to work out the best time for me to fly down there.

My Question is regarding interviews for his kids. We're petitioning for 3 of them (ages 18, 13, 11). Will they need their own interview? Should I pick a day that has 4 openings or will it all be one?

Actually, any information regarding the process with the kids would be helpful. Any additional documents they will request? If they have their own interview - what will they ask? Do they need their own NVC appointment too? or just one for everybody?

    Thank you!

  7. I, the petitioner, filled out all the DS-160's for my fiance and his kids. Do they really need to hit the submit button down there? Or can I do it here?

I'm also filling out his US Travel docs profile with my email address. I hope that's allowed!

Also, his information packet never arrived. I've read the only thing he really NEEDS out of that is the paper for the medical appointments. How does he go about getting that?

    Thank you all!

  8. Wow. thank you. I do need to read through everything more. I've been too busy with work to be on top of everything, unfortunately. But he's waiting on his birth certificate to come back from getting a mistake fixed anyway, which he needs to get his passport, which we need to fill out the DS-160, which we need to schedule the interview.

    One step at a time.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

  9. Hello tod@s!

Does anyone know how the DR schedules the interviews? AND if his DS-160 has to be submitted before an interview is scheduled? I know we have to take the printed completion bar code sheets to the interview, but I thought I had read someplace that they wait for the application to be submitted to schedule the interview.

Any info is helpful. Thank you!

  10. Hello everyone! I called and discovered that our package was forwarded from the NVC to the Consulate on Monday (YAY!).

So I went ahead and started his DS-160 application online. I'm hesitating on the question of marital status. He is single, in effect and on his ID. But technically, perhaps legally in some views, he is in a "common law marriage". He has lived with the mother of his children for 20+ years, though they have not been together, relationship wise, for at least 5 years, they have continued to co-habitat (in separate rooms) due to economical restrictions. Now, knowing that he is in the process of coming to America, she initiated a legal process exercizing her right to half of what he has (mostly land). We're hoping that will be settled soon and wont cause any issues for us.

Has anyone experienced this situation? Did it cause issues? On the DS160, should I list him as single or common law marriage? He IS single, and after this issue with her is settled, he will be single in any view you can have. We're still waiting on his passport, so it will be a little bit before we're able to submit the DS-160 anyway, should I just wait until the settlement happens and list him as single?

    Life is complicated.

    Thank you all!

  11. Hello!

We have an approved petition (YAY!), NOA2, and we're waiting on NVC processing.

My question - my fiance's post-pago cell phone contract (Claro) has become problematic and expensive. We want to close it, and go pre-paid for less of a hassle. But he would have a new phone number, and the old number would be disabled. We've resisted doing this, not wanting to mess with or cause any problems to the process. Which does the DR embassy use most for communication, mail or phone? And if we were to change it, does anyone know the process? And is it likely to cause delays? Should we just suck it up and keep paying Claro to avoid any issues/problems/delays?

    Thank you!

  12. Thank you all for your replies. The kids are 18 and 13. The 18 year old has graduated high school (there) and is about to start taking some university classes. The 13 year old is about to start high school. I'm not sure if the oldest will work or study or how school records will transfer and whatnot. But the youngest will need to go to school, she may lose a grade with the move and language struggles, but age wise she's a year ahead of normal kids here anyway.

And thank you for pointing me to that fee schedule. Holy cow! I knew money was involved all through this process, but my word, thats a lot. I better start planning now!

  13. Hello all,

My fiance and I recieved our NOA2 last week, (Woo!) so now we are looking to the next steps. We were planning to have his children "accompany to join", but after reviewing all the processes and restrictions, we have decided it will be best to just bring them now. The USCIS website states that unmarried children under the age of 21 are eligible. I have seen the age 18 on other websites, but I'm going to choose to believe USCIS.

    On to my questions:

1 - will his daughter be eligible to attend school prior to him receiving this AOS? It states K-2's have the same restrictions as K-1's, and I understand the employment side, but the education side isn't as clear. I wouldn't want her to have to sit out a year of school.

2- Can we process their AOS's at the same time as my fiance's? Or do we have to wait till his is approved?

3 - Anyone have any comments, advice, or experience with K-2, accompanying children on a K-1 visa?

    Thank you!

  14. Hello all!

While I'm waiting on our NOA2, I'm trying to get my love moving on any documents we may need later. He has 3 children eligible to come with. As of now, we're planning on bringing the 18 yo boy and 13 yo girl. As of now, we're also planning on them to follow, the rules are up to 12 months after fiance visa issuance. My question is what documents will we need for them? http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/iv-required_documents.html Is a list of the documents I will need for my love, will the kids need all the same? And will we need them at his interview? Any other information regarding children to follow would be appreciated.

    Thanks all!

  15. Hey ya'll - Filling out the G-325 biographical information on my man and I have a question about what to put for his occupation as it is not as clear and easy as some.

Per his Dominican govt' issued ID, he is "agicultor" aka farmer. self employed. I do plan to list this as is.

However, his main form of income is as a driver. He runs a "public transportation" route from our community up in the mountain down into town. It is an official route and he is part of an organization that is similar to a union. But the union is not necessarily his employer. It is more self employed than an employer type of situation.

He is also the equivalent of the school bus driver and other hired driver type of tasks.

He also used to be mayor. Which on one hand would show leadership, competence, and responsibility, but also political involvement, which can be viewed negatively.

Do they view this information as pure statement of information or do they extrapolate ideas of income and ability?

    Thank you

  16. Thank you all for your thoughts. We have decided not to submit any money transfers at this time, with the I-129f application package. We can always include some of them later when we're working with the consulate. We don't want to raise any suspicions.

It is unfortunate that all our of relationship, in person, was living a normal life in the poor Dominican rural community, eating on his porch and working on community projects. Not buying teddy bears, dating, flowers, movies, and vacations. And since being physically separated, I have sent nothing but money because he doesn't need flowers or toys, he needs to get his truck fixed so he can work or his daughter needs books for school, or his mom an expensive medicine.

I'm with you on this one gtessier. You and me and our SO's get it. Its a shame that the generous act of taking care of the one you love instead of listening to them suffer could be misunderstood as fraud.

We initially considered this knowing that we're light on evidence on ongoing relationship. Something which I'm still concerned about. Aside from a couple of personal testimonies, the only evidence we really have is daily phone calls.

I am going to visit and collect information next week. I will be sure to save all my restaurant & hotel receipts, boarding passes etc. But it still won't be much.

  17. Hello All! This is my first post. I'm female, preparing the documents to bring my Domincan Fiance here. I met him while I was working as a Peace Corps Volunteer. As the economy has grown worse there, he has struggled financially, and I have sent him money since returning to the States in August 2014. He has children, whom I love as my own, 2 of which will hopefully be coming as well. I have sent money out of love because it's impossible to sit in the comfortableness of American life and hear the struggle of the man you love on the line. But I am concerned about it appearing that he is just using me for the money. The DR is a high fraud country. Should I include the money transfer receipts?

Other evidence: a hefty call log since August, photos, Official Peace Corps paperwork placing us in the same community for over 2 years, 2 personal letters from friends on my side, copy of a letter I wrote him a year ago.

    Thank you!
