  1. Pretty much this, there are a few factors as to why we're putting it off - the biggest one being so she can get through uni without worrying about visas and adjustment of status, also though because she's tied to a lease on a college campus for at least another year - and the big thing for me with the CR-1 over the K1, is that I'm eligible to work right away upon landing and don't have to jump through hoops for advance parole.

We're still young, we just decided if we're gonna do it we may as well take our time and do it right. The initial plan was to have a quick courthouse wedding, but Allison's family is very Catholic, and mine would like to be there too so we figured alright perhaps we owe it to ourselves to make the wedding the best we can, and if that means delaying the visa for a while until university is out the way and we can properly plan everything how we want it, then so be it

  2. Thanks for this - I'm currently in with my parents so no home ownership. I've visited the USA multiple times each year since 2013 and haven't overstayed so there's that

At this point we just want to do the CR-1 route, there are complications with the K1 that are just easier with the CR-1, for instance being able to work right away on the CR-1

All in all, what do ya think of my situation? Withdrawing a k1 won't impact us that much right?

  3. Hey guys,

So I need some advice. My fiancé and I want to withdraw our K1 visa. We're still together and still engaged however we want to delay the wedding indefinitely, until Allison has finished university as she isn't doing so well in school right now. We'll keep up with visits, me visiting the US for a couple of months at a time - how would we go about this? Will us withdrawing the K1 have an impact on the esta I'd use to visit Allison in the future?

We're currently awaiting an NVC case number after our NOA2 has been approved

  4. Hey guys!

So I'm after some pointers on a few things. Over here in the UK I'm big into weight training and bodybuilding, and order different supplements (protein powder, creatine, BCAA's etc.) each month from different stores in the UK.

I know the USA has GNC, but other than GNC - which I've heard isn't great - anyone else know of any supplement suppliers that are reputable? I'll be in the Philadelphia area if that helps!

    Thanks

  5. We live in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, it requires lengthy travel just to get to a store which to be safe is in the next state over.

Things he likes? He says he likes the quiet. Simple peace and quiet. There's plenty of rivers and forests to explore. There's a pub about an hour away that makes authentic Brit-food so he enjoys that, and he also likes most of our restaurants. He likes the attention he receives from his accent.

We'd ideally like to move close to DC, to the countryside in PA, or out west to Seattle. I grew up in a big city, so it was quite an adjustment for me when I moved here... can only imagine how strange it has been for him. So while I laugh when he can't come up with a lot of things he likes about this town, I totally understand at the same time. We don't anticipate living here for long.

I hear you, I'm quite lucky that I'm moving to Philadelphia - I think I'd feel the same, I'd like the peace and quiet but I wouldn't like lengthy travel to get anywhere - being a Brit a two hour drive is hell!

  6. Is there anyway to pause a K1 visa?

I only ask because at present my view was to move over the end of July, however my fiance is out of state for a few weeks in summer so we decided me moving later might be a better option, however, the caveat to this whole thing is that I do want to visit in August for her birthday. Would it be possible in any way to delay the K1 visa process so that my interview is after I return from the United States in August?

I've had an NOA2 approval and I'm awaiting the NVC case number at present.

  7. Writing this for my hubby. We live in Birmingham Alabama. We aren't too happy here but it's home for now. Greg being English he said there is nothing that wine can't fix :) A great thing about living here is we're 2 hours from Nashville, 2 hours from Atlanta and 2 hours from the Gulf of Mexico so we can go to the beach. Being optimistic we hope to move to a new city to call home.

Ah I'm sorry to hear you're not too keen on Birmingham - though it does sound like it has some pretty great surrounding areas, which is a plus :)

Where abouts would you like to move?

  8. Think about getting a Vonage.co.uk plan for £8/month.

    Pick your UK number.

Bring the box with you and plug into your US router and plug any landline phone into the Vonage box.

Your friends and family call your UK number and it rings in your US home. No codes are dial arounds. Unlimited minutes. .They are calling a UK phone. You can use the same phone to call their landlines. There is a fee to call UK mobiles.

There is a setup to simultaneously ring your mobile when your UK Vonage phone rings. But because it is transferring from a a "UK phone number" to a US mobile, you would need the Premium Package for £11/month which allows unlimed calls to the US.

This Vonage thing is good for those with UK parents or grandparents or kids who don't have smart phones or Skype or What's app. They simply dial a UK phone number from any phone.

This sounds like a great idea, thank you!

  9. We live in Austin, TX, and it's AMAZING. Beautiful city with lots of music, festivals, friendly people. Austin's a very progressive place and very concerned about the environment. They're great at recycling, first place where Walmart removed their horrible plastic bags and replaced them with paper bags for $0.10 or bring your own, lots of bicycle lanes along roads through Austin. Austin really has the best of Europe and the best of America. :) And the city government here is very efficient, whether it be SSN, DMV or any other place where you have to deal with local officials.

Only downside is that lots of other people have also realized how great Austin is so it's experiencing a very big boom with lots of new residents every year, more than the roads can take so traffic is pretty horrible during peak hours.

Ah awesome! I really wanna visit Texas at some point :)

  10. So I thought I'd create a topic around the U.S cities we either live in now, or will be moving to soon. What is it you like about the city? Anything unique about it?

I'll start! I'm moving to Philadelphia, and one of my favourite things about it is the music scene, it's got a great independent music scene. I also love the historical aspect of it, being that it was the capital of the United States before Washington DC. It's also not too far from New York and DC - which is always a bonus!

  11. That's nice :) Maybe find a group on FB with UK people in that area. I'm sure there are plenty and having friends from the same country can maybe help you :)

I've been in a few bands over in the UK but put guitar down for a while, tempted to take it back up and join a band when I move haha.

Plus I'm big into the gym, and have done several martial arts in the past so I'm probably gonna take up a martial art as Philly has alot of good trainers in the area from what I've read

I think key is definitely to keep busy :)
