I have my interview next Friday in Montreal, and I've spent the whole night getting my documents sorted, photocopied, and just plain old organized. Besides getting my US passport photos, which I still need to do, everything is in order except...
I have my Canada police check, which is fine, and I know it's all that I need since I have only resided in Canada since turning 16 years old. However, I was born in England, and I immigrated to Canada as a Canadian citizen (my dad is Canadian) when I was 11 years old. Canada is a pretty diverse country so I know some of you were born somewhere else and were/are in the same situation! I also KNOW I don't need a police check from England, however will the US consulate take my word for it if I tell them that I moved here when I was 11? How else will they know?
Basically I'm asking if anyone had to provide any specific documents that proved when exactly they moved to Canada in order to be exempted from having to give a police check from a country where they had lived for more than 6 months due to being under 16 y/o.
I have photocopied (and will bring the original of) my citizenship card which is dated when I actually immigrated but I'm not sure if this will suffice.. Do I have to prove my Canadian domicile since then? Or do they simply not go into depth with this matter? My last three passports are Canadian, although I don't have the first one anymore, which would cover the date that I actually turned 16.
Please share your suggestions/experiences and thank you so much in advance!
Hi I moved here when I was 13 years old. I was not asked to provide anything from my home country other than my original birth certificate, and I only provided the canadian police check. They can see on the application ds 260 where you listed all the address you have lived at and all the schools you attended. They will take your word for it but you also have your citizenship certificate that should be more than enough of evidence.

Most people from this thread have waited longer than 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. it's been READY all the time or it has been ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING and then changed to READY?
Thank you for stating that it might take this long, it is giving me some type of hope. My interview was on aug 12th and was approved and was told I will receive my passport with the visa within 2 to 3 weeks. But I been on ap every since my interview, and people who were interviewed with me already gotten back their passport so I guess I should be patient there is a chance I will hear from them soon.

Hi there:
Congratulation on your approval, I think in your case you should receive notice anytime soon. Unfortunately for all of us MTL is the slowest processing center and sometimes I wonder the same thing about if there's a human being behind this cases waiting.all the best to you and hoping you'll see that "Issued" soon. :-)Thank you but to be honest it's really hard to be excited about the approval, by now everyone who had their interview around the same time as me already gotten their passport back with their visa, and not knowing why I was put on ap is hard. But like you said I hope I can see issued soon the separation from my child and husband is taking a toll on me. And I hope for you both something gets resolved soon.

Neither of us were approved at the interview and were given a 221g. For me, it was a missing document. Both of us are May interviewees but a lot of people post that has gotten their approval. Don't lose hope.
Sorry to hear that the whole processes is just rough they don't care about how this distance is affecting all of us. I don't get how this people could sleep good at night knowing family are scattered apart and it's in their hand to just fix it in reasonable time. I hope all of us get the answer soon no one deserves this agony.
-
what, WOW!!! Did they ask why? thatss another 1-2 just to receive an answer to the inquiry and it's been 3 months we are both waiting. This is madness
. I am thinking of asking for my passport back so I can travel at least.
Hello I'm in a similar boat but it has not been that long since I was put on ap. My interview was on aug 12th In fact he approved me and gave me a welcome letter and told me I will receive my passport in 2 to 3 weeks its been 2 weeks now and reading from all the people who are put on ap is just horrible. Were you told you are approved also? Just wondering if I should start bugging them instead taking their word for it.

Is your Visa status "ready" or "issued"?
Issued means it is printed and all but in your hands. You should not stay in Ready status that long though.
Hello Rob L no is still on ap and been stuck on it since my interview on aug 12th. When I emailed them last week the status date did change to the 19th but other than evertything else remained the same.

I NEED HELP, i had interview on may 20, 2015 and i missed document and got 221g white paper. i sent it the next day and they received it on may 29. and ten they asked for another different document on june 15 and i sent the required document on june 18 and the case updated on june 29. since then it has updated a few times , especially recently my case was updated on aug 3,4,6,13 but it is still on AP. what is going on and shohd it has to be changed to ready when all of this date updates are happening?
Hello I been on Ap since my interview on Aug 12th 2015, but nothing was asked everything was god and my interview only lasted 2 minutes. The CO did keep my passport but still no sight of it. From reading others who have been on AP status date change is a good thing that means they are touching your case so hopefully you will hear something soon hang in there.

They need to put the stamp on your visa which takes 1-2 days. If you have registered for the courier service, they will inform the courier to pick up the documents from US embassy, and have that mailed to your selected courier terminal. Once the courier picks up the documents, they will send you an email or call you (depends on if you gave them your email or phone #), and inform you about the tracking of this delivery. This courier service takes about 4-10 business days (again depends on where you live). So 2-3 weeks is a conservative way to tell you about the timing. What I am curious though, is that this delivery takes multiple days and still calls itself express rofl.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for replying back but I still have not heard back from them yet. Did you get your visa yet? I emailed them last week and they said to give them 2 to 3 weeks so hopefully I will get my passport back soon.

I had my interview on July 21st and its been over three weeks now. There is a mistake on my loomis form, my birthday is a day off, and it can't be fixed by Loomis since my interview has past. I contacted the embassy today to ask if that is why my passport is late. I check on CEAC daily and they have looked my file three times since the interview: July 30th, Aug 11th and Aug 17th but its still stuck at READY - blah blah get ready for interview blurb.
I really thought I was past all this frustrated waiting business too
From reading so much ready is actually a good thing soon you will see issued hang in there you are almost done:)

I had my interview in Montreal Canada on aug 12th and I was so pleased with my interview
, but my status say AP every since that day
. Has anyone who were approved right then but not giving any kind form or explanation put under AP? And mind you he kept my passport (Canadian citizen) and told me I will receive it back in 2 to 3 weeks with the visa. If anyone have any info on this topic I would appreciate your input.

I got some questions answered by nice ppl here before, and it is my turn to share some info about the immigrant visa interview in MTL now
Be there early, as we figured out it seems to be first come first served (our appointment time was 10:00am, we arrived right before 9:00am and we got out there around 1:00pm...).The interviews for immigrant and non-immigrant are separated. That means, they have 2 queues, one for immi and one for non-immi. There was a third queue that I did not figure out what it was about. You can sit all the time when waiting for your turn, but be prepared that the chairs were so uncomfortable.
Dress like you are going to work in a new place, at least for your top half (head to torso, because you will be talking to an officer through a window). I was wearing Brooks brother shirts+jeans+nike shoes, and no problem for that. It does not harm to dress more formally though.
Before the interview, my own self-education from online resources told me that (this might not be all true, but I found these making sense):
1. Do not have any exaggerate expression, like over-smile. Be polite with a little bit smile is good enough.
2. Answer questions in the briefest way, like if it is a Y or N question, answer with Y or N only, no more explanation is needed. This is because the more ppl talk, the more possible flaws it may contain and that can really hurt.
3. There is only one correct answer for this question "why did you get married": "b/c we love each other".
4. If possible, ask your petitioner to be there and show support. And show support only, like if your better half is there, he/she must not answer any questions for you (do that and fail, lol).
5. Be really prepared. We got over 400 pages of documents showing our relationship is genuine: facetime records, phone records, joint bank accounts, pics showing the both of us, pics with in-laws, the boarding passes my better half used to see me in Canada, credit card statements showing the gifts sent to each other, previous emails records, hotel receipts for vacations, etc. It turns out that the officer did not ask for any of this, but it may be helpful that you give him/her this message that you have everything (in those pounds of papers) and "come with any question", lol.
My interview questions are as follows
1. Where did you meet (this seems to be the must-ask question)
2. Did you come to US before
3. What is your current occupation
4. What do you plan to do after you got the visa
and the interview went for 3 mins
Good luck to you all.
Congrats on the approval. I had my interview on the 12th and I was also approved, the CO told me it will be 2 to 3 weeks before I can get my passport back with the visa. I didn't ask why so I was just wondering did they tell you in how long they will return the passport?
-
Read through the consulate reviews at the top of this page right in the canada forum and you will have an idea .
I had my interview yesterday it was easy breezy
. if you have all the paper work in order and all the originals they ask with you then you are good to go. The only hard part was the wait to be called to be interviewed that took 2.5 to 3 hours. For some of us the interview lasted 10 to 15 minutes and for some of us literally 2 minutes. And just arrive 15 minutes before you interview if you go early they will turn you away. Best of luck:)
-
My interview was today and I got approved in like 2 minutes. The hardest part was almost all of us who were there for immigration visa we had to wait 2.5 to 3 hours to be interviewed. In total we were 10 and just 1 officer conducting the interview he approved 9 of us and just rejected 1( we don't know the reason so don't panic). For most of us he took 10 to 15 minutes and I was #9 so I'm assuming by this time he was tired and all he cared was that all the information is true to my knowledge and that was it. I wish all of you the kinda luck I had with me today

Waiting for our passports from Montreal
in Canada
Posted
Thank you CandAm for your prayers and input about this ap madness, it's good to hear from someone who has gone thru it before. I understand there might be a reason to put us on ap in my end it could be because I was not born here. But I been living in North America since the age of 13, with 0 criminal records. And I been in USA million times and went to school there( did a psychology degree). I have many family members who are a US citizen( dad and mom were also naturalized us citizens) including my son who is dual. My frustration is more so why not just be honest with us then. Better to tell us we will be put on ap and here is your passport back and you will hear from us when we are done. If the CO had said that to me, I would not have sent off my little boy to start grade one there.
