On the DS 11 application they ask for parents name Mother/Father/Parent Of Applicant, First and middle name and then last name (at birth). My mom changed her name after marriage so should it be her name before marriage ?/

Mothers name before marriage - Jane Bob Doe

Fathers name - James Tom Smith

Mothers name after marraige - Jane James Smith

So on the form, should I fill

    Jane James Doe

    OR

    Jane Bob Doe

    Appreciate the help!

    Hi,

I would put down her current legal name now, so the after her marriage.  Whatever her legal name is today. Congrats on your upcoming oath!

Congratulations !!! do you know what we need to apply for passport at the ceremony ? Mine is next monday.

I was told you can fill out the DS-11 application onsite at USCIS during your oath ceremony, they will give it to you in your packet.  However I would plan to have this application already filled out before you arrive. You should bring the following:

    • Form DS-11, completed but not signed (Must be signed in front of them apparently)
    • Evidence of U.S. citizenship (The naturalization certificate you will receive that day)
    • Photocopy of evidence of U.S. citizenship (I guess you need a photocopy of the naturalization certificate not sure you can do that at USCIS??)
    • Photo ID
    • Photocopy of photo ID
    • Passport photo

If you do the above at the oath ceremony the average wait time is 4-6 weeks.  Because I need to get it expedited for travel at the beginning of July I plan to make an appointment at the Passport center in Aurora, CO as they can process in 8 days if I bring proof that of upcoming travel (purchased plane tickets).  Hope this helps.

  3. We had our I-751/N-400 combo interview yesterday in Denver, all in all everything went great and we were approved verbally on the spot.  Wanted to share our experience.

We arrived 30 mins early and checked in. My wife’s name was called and we both proceeded to the Interview Officer.  He then said since part of this is a marriage interview we are going to separate you.  This was very stressful to say the least, he had not even talked to us together but started off by separating us. He asked me to stay in the waiting area while he took my wife into back to the office.   The wait was stressful to say the least.  While I was waiting he went through I-751 questions which included:

    - Where did we meet?

    - How come we travel so often?

    - Where we went for a honeymoon?

    - Some clarification questions about addresses.

Then he went into the N-400 questions.  Went through the application and all it’s questions.  The below were his civic questions he asked:

    -  Name one branch or part of the government.

    - Who is in charge of the executive branch.

    - Name one right only for U.S citizens.

    - What are the two rights of everyone living in the U.S.

    - Name two national holidays.

    - Name one of the 2 longest rivers in the U.S.

After this he ask me to come into his office, he did not make my wife leave so we were now in the office together.  He then said I have to ask a few questions to validate the marriage but I believe the marriage is legitimate, this did make the setting much more relaxed.  He then asked the following questions:

    - Where did I meet my wife.

    - What was her b-day.

    - Where did we go for our honeymoon.

    - What was our address at a certain date.

Then he said all looks good here, I’m going to approve both cases and he congratulated my wife on becoming a US citizen.  He then started telling us we could bring as many people as we like for the oath ceremony.  He also explained how to expedite the passport right at the ceremony as there should be department of state reps at the ceremony to accept passport applications.

As you could imagine all kinds of stuff were going through my head in the waiting room when they separated us, turns out this is how this Interview Officer does marriage interviews.  He was extremely polite, kind and helpful.  Bottom line is being separated does not mean something  bad, this just could  be part of the process for some IOs.

Got an alert saying “My card is being produced”.  Now just waiting on oath ceremony date.

I had my N400 interview on 04/08 and also had a pending i751, so I'll share my experience. Every case is different really, and experiences vary. I have had people tell me they were grilled at their interview, but mine took all of 10 minutes. I went with my spouse but the officer said she only needed me. She told me at the start that she was satisfied with the i751 and would approve it, so she went straight to the naturalization test. It all went quick and she was very friendly but professional. None of the evidence I took along was looked at - only checked my green card and ID card (drivers licence).

It appears Denver will by default do a combo interview if there's a pending i751. Whether your spouse is interviewed with you or not depends on how "okay" the officer is with your i751 application.

By the time we got home, my i751 status had changed to "card is being produced" and N400 said "Oath ceremony letter was mailed". The next day I was able to see the oath ceremony letter in online account and it was scheduled 10 days from the interview date. I received the 10yr green card 5 days after the interview(turned it in at oath ceremony).

A few things I learnt from making small talk:

****Denver hasn't done same day oath ceremonies in quite a while and though I requested it based on a few reasons, the officer very nicely told me it wouldn't be possible.

****Some approvals may take a few days to process if the pending i751 file "is not in their system".

    I hope this helps.

Very helpful thanks for sharing. Only 10

days from interview to oath is pretty great!!

Thank you! Yes I hope so too:)  I don't know about ceremony, we didn't get here)) but she mention that I have to bring to ceremony all cards that they issue for me. I been checking  vj immigration timelines and so far didn't seen anybody with same day ceremony, usually it's  happening  in 2-4 weeks

Thanks, I figured they probably did not do same day ceremonies but thought I would ask as we are traveling this July and we will need to handover the green card at the oath ceremony and it will take a bit of time to expedite a passport. Either way 2-4 weeks is not bad at all!

Hi! I don't know what is going on, but twice been trying answer to you and my messages disappears.. One more time :))) interview was for both I751 and N400, everything went fast and easy, and if not one thing I would wait for my oath ceremony now. But IO requested transcripts from IRS for last year to make sure taxes was paid, she didn't accepted turbotax copy and recite. Thing is earliest when transcripts will be available it's in 3-4 weeks sinse you payed your taxes, so for me it's May 12, + time for delivery, + time to send it to USCIS, and here I'm May 25 is my due to send answer to USCIS. We'll see how it's will turn out. So far I have a card is being produced status, and RFE was mailed. Good luck to you! Fortunately you have more time to get recent transcripts.

Hi, thanks so much for your response.  Glad they did the combo interview and it went good!  That is a bummer about the tax transcript I had read in another blog that sometimes they require those.  I am still waiting on my 2018 tax transcript I ordered about a week ago.  So were they going to do the oath ceremony on the same day? Hope everything comes together quickly for you, at least you are right at the finish line!

Hi! Thank you!:) Yes, it is usually what suppose to happen, but I seen some cases when after successful N400 interview, IO sent a person back to wait for i751 interview because  uscis was not ready. So I prefer to check on them;)  so far I got interview notice only online, before that I had transfer to NBC notice, that's all. Thank you! Wish you quick and easy last step of your immigration process!:) Good luck everybody!

    Hi,

Was wondering if the Denver office gave you the combo interview? Just checking as my interview is May 8th in Denver. I have called uscis and sent an email to alert them we have a pending I-751 so I’m hoping they will be prepared to give us the combo interview. Any info would be great and thanks.

My notice date says March 20th so yea a month and 10 days out. Keep checking your online status, I never got a notification that here was an update. I just happened to check one of the days and it was updated. The paper notice usually takes about 4 - 5 days after mailing

That’s good advice, I will make sure to keep checking my online status. Thanks.

Hi, I think as it went to the NBC office you will get the combo interview, but I agree calling USCIS and making sure they are aware is a smart move!  Also did you get notice that your case ever moved from NBC to the Denver local office?  Or did you just get an interview notice in the mail/online?  You have the most similar timeline as us, applied online 09.25.18,  had I-751 transferred to NBC on 12.21.18, and local office is Denver.  Congrats and good luck with everything, hope to be following closely behind you:)

I went for the infopass appointment today to get the stamp and asked the ISO what the status of my case was. So my I751 and N400 are merged just like some of the others here. And the ISO also said, your case is cleared for interview and is in the queue, but the local office(denver) has a backlog hence the delay, so I should hear something in 3 months as they were working on July cases and I filed in November. That was good to hear. I got the stamp for another year. Wish I had known about the stamp ahead of time, would have saved me an expensive airline ticket. But all good now can now travel again.

I filed my I-751 in Sept 2017 and the N-400 in Sept 2018.  My local field office is also Denver.  Was wondering if you got a notice that your I-751 was moved from the California Service Center to NBC ( Lee's Summit, MO ) as well?

Just like Lemon said, as long as you're in the eligibility window, you can apply for Naturalization with a pending I-751. I've read right here on VJ about countless people who've done so. I have no intention of misleading people. See my rep? That's because I don't say stuff without researching 1st.

You can absolutely apply for naturalization 90 days before your 3rd year mark with a "pending" I-751.  However, an application for naturalization may not be approved if there is a pending petition for removal of conditions. If an applicant’s petition to remove conditions is pending at the time of filing or is filed prior to the interview, USCIS will adjudicate the petition to remove conditions prior to or concurrently with the adjudication of the naturalization application.

Basically it may force their hand to deal with your I-751 if they have not already to get your N-400 rolling.

I did the same. Regular mail with tracking. No express. Chopping 2 days off the process will mean nothing in the end stacked up against a 12-15 month approval time.

As soon as my wife's Naturalization window opens, she will be applying for that, with or without the 10-year GC approval. That is our current plan. I think she can apply in about 14 months. I recommend everyone here who intends to file for Naturalization do the same. Don't wait to receive your 10-yr GC.

Completely agree. We are going straight for naturalization with or without the 10 yr. GC. We are applying 90 days before the 3 year mark so 12 months and counting.
