  1. Hi there..

I have recently moved to California too (in March 2016) and have finally gotten my California drivers license! Needless to say, it was a long painful process as I didnt have any credible information (like you) prior to applying for one. But I do have a foreign drivers license prior to moving here and have been driving for the past 20 years.

Star561 is right. There are only 2 instances where you may apply for a learner's permit. 1. When your I-94 has not expired and 2. If your I-94 has expired, you have to wait until you receive your EAD to even start applying. Do note that prior to applying for a learner's permit you need to pass a written test first and they will not allow you to even attempt the test if you do not have a valid I-94 or EAD.

    Hope that helps..

  2. Hi all

I've found an interesting guide to customs regulations for moving your personal effects to the US.

When doing research for this, I found many first-time immigrants unsure of the procedures and limitations when it comes to bringing either accompanied/unaccompanied baggage when entering the US.

    Hope it helps..

Here is the link. FYI, its a link to download a word document.

  3. I am currently preparing/compiling documents as per the checklist sent to me by the US embassy in Malaysia.

Can anyone help me with questions that I have please?

    1. The application fee for the K1 visa - when do I pay this? Pay prior to sending checklist to embassy or pay just before interview day?

    2. Birth certificate - Do I need to submit both mine and my fiance's (petitioner's) original birth certificate?

    3. Can I choose the date for my interview with the embassy in Kuala Lumpur or is it assigned to me?

    4. While going through the checklist there are some items which are irrelevant to me for e.g. military records, court and prison records. Do I leave the checkbox empty or do I put N/A next to the checkbox?

    5. How soon before the interview should I schedule the medical examination?

    Thank you.... :)

  4. Once you do the civil ceremony and sign off on the marriage license you are good.

Las Vegas is a great place to get married, the county clerk office is open 365 days per year and I think the stay open till midnight....

Thanks for the tip.. I understand that doing a civil ceremony and later having the actual wedding ceremony with families and friends are frowned upon?

It doesn't seem like a big thing where I'm from but just wanted to check if it's a bigno no in the U.S.

  5. We have recently received our NOA2 and currently waiting for interview. In view of this we have started preliminary wedding preparations. However in view of the requirement that we need to marry within 90 days on my entry to the U.S., this will not give us enough time to plan for a wedding ceremony & reception.

Can anyone advice how they did theirs? Did you do a civil ceremony and only do the official wedding ceremony later? If so, do u still need an officiant for the official ceremony?

    Please help!

    Thank you!
