  1. Ok so I passed my CA driving test yesterday

Drove round the block twice, reversed down a street for about 10ft, didn't kill anyone................passed

Yes its that easy, and I'm a Brit used to driving on the CORRECT side of the road and the CORRECT side of the car lol

    Congrats!

I'm also getting my drivers license here in California, LA. I have my swedish one and I been driving for 8 years so it should be fine... But if you had to show your greencard (the plastic one) when you went to have the written test and apply? Or were you good with just the visa stamp on the passport?

How long did you wait until applying for the written one after you entered the US?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Is there anyone where who is (or has been) in the same situation as my hubby and I that both the petitioner and beneficiary are living abroad? I have a question about the I-864 when it comes to my husbands income. He has been living with me in Sweden and he has made money here, Sweden don't have w2s. We have have sent 1040+2555-EZ for 2012-2014 just a few weeks ago because we didn't know he had to file taxes. At the moment the only proof of filing taxes are the copies we took. I've asked in the forum if we should put 0 as income and I was accused of trying to commit fraud, lying and so on but now I finally found my source under part 6: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Which procedure is correct: put 0 or his foreign income? Do we send in copies of the 1044+2555-EZ and write a letter saying there are no tax transcripts because it's not been that long since we sent in the papers or do we send the employment letter stating his income will end when we move back to the US? We have a joint sponsor who is sending us everything that they ask for in the AOS/IV cover sheet.

Thanks guys for all your help :)

    Hi!

We did the same process just a month or two back. Both of us where living in Sweden so no US income for years and had to make the I-864. I can tell you that in the end this I-864 was edited and reedited several times and we like ended up with 5 different version of the form until the right form was accepted. This is because different organisation like NVC and then the embassy will tell you and help you on how it should be. But think of I-864 as a form that is for all people that are applying and that is to establish that the applicant won't become a liability for the US government. The embassy will help you in having with the I-864 but to get help from them you first need to pass through NVC so you still need to try to get it right from the beginning.

    1. You are not committing fraud in putting 0 zero because your husband hasn't made any money in US and that is what the I-864 is asking for... Specifically they ask for how much he will make in the future in the US and as he is not working there yet you can't say anything else than 0. (Bare in mind we put the swedish income and were later asked to submit a new form with 0 as income (and again even if my husband was earning money in sweden)

    2. But in the tax return he will say he had this much of income in sweden and the tax return when done will say he owes 0 zero because he worked and payed taxes in another country.

    3. So because income is 0 you guys need to show proof that you won't become a liability to the US. We did this with proof of assets. Does your husband own a house or apartment in his name? But it sound you will do this with a joint sponsor which is a perfect alternative (This is directly what the embassy said to us either joint sponsor or proof of assets)

You can send all you want to NVC as Letter of employment and so on as you mention, but think that you need to structure it so it is understandable. And as you are sending all of it for the joint sponsor you will just have dubble proof anyhow. My suggestion if you do this is in the cover letter state 1. A form I-864 1.B letter of employment 1.C Copies of sent Tax return 1.D Letter of employment end in sweden etc and then 2. A Joint Sponsor form I-864 2.B Letter of employment etc etc.

Basically what I am saying is send everything if you have it and think it will help prove that you will not become a financial liability to NVC but what is most importantly and what they will want is the pappers that you have a joint sponsor and all the papers from that person. Later perhaps the embassy will clarify and say that they only need the joint sponsor documents (that is what happened to us) as this is the most clear and logical path and thereby return all the document that do not support that statement.

OR submit I-864 with zero income for your husband but that you will have a joint sponsor in part 2, copies that you have made tax return and letter explaining you are waiting for the transcript and could send them in when they arrive (bare in mind NVC might ask you to wait and to send this document when is done but at least you have started the process) and a I-864 for your Joint sponsor and all the requested documents for this person as attachments.

Hope this helps! I know it is really hard to understand and believe me it is hard to explain too and to write a short explanation on what you should do and how. But I am not a lawyer asking for money, I'm just a person that went through the process and has her own experience and that is why I can only explain it to you in writing as if I was personally talking to you

FYI: I'm no longer at the website all the time as before so if you ask me something back it might take me some time to answer you back.

  3. Now that I have read everything, I will share my status! Hoping that it helps

I check D-260 for both SSN and GC but hadn't received anything. Payed $165 on 11/5 and had POE 11/6

I got my IOE receipt number because I made a print screen of the confirmation of the payment, when I made my payment. It says USCIS Receipt Number

Been worried about not been able to check my status, and yes you do it at the regular USCIS check status link as apparently they have changed the ELIS system August 2015 so all the talk about tracking card by login in in ELIS doesn't work anymore.

Went to an SSN office last week and was told that I was issued a number on 11/10 but that they most have "forgotten " to send me the actual card :ranting: Anyhow the lady was really nice and issued me a replacement card. I'm awaiting that now. But at least I got my SSN number from the clerk, so would advice to go to your local SSN office if it's been a while since you payed and entered US.

Talked to USCIS today about the GC and it was useless! He pretty much just read a script that he had infront and repeated that I can call back when it's been 60 days on what ever question I had. Also I have read that the GC plastic card will take at least 30-60 days, not even those who had the old system got it until after waiting a month. The only shame is that you can't track the card in the check status link, at least I can't as it just says error. I guess I'll just have to wait and wait...

  4. Hi!

Sorry it took so long to reply... Perhaps you already got your answers but here we go...

The extended version is 4 pages and has the parents name and where they live too. So no the standard version is enough to prove the change of name.

I only used this for my change of name and not the Ändring av Efternamn as then I would of had to pay for a translation. And as you said it says it on the Personbeviset.

NO notarisation: when you get the form from Skatteverket they sign and stamp it as a "real copy" that is it! But I didn't need to get it notarised.

Regarding your worries about residency I don't know about this at all as we did the whole process through USCIS after NVC and afterwards it was sent to the embassy. But sound like she has the documentation on her passport, why not send a copy of that page and in the cover letter to the embassy explaining as : Proof of residency in the UK.

Is not the passport that gets stamped is the photocopy of the first page of the passport that gets a stamp saying that this is a true copy of the passport.

But I am not sure you need this as again I went through US and then is a lot more administrative procedures. I think that if you do DCF they will eventually need to see the real passport when and if they do an interview and then the can themselves stamp the photocopy with a stamp saying that they have seen the real passport and that it is true copy.

In Sweden we can send questions directly to the embassy, maybe you can do that too but in the UK. e.g. ask about photocopies and what documents they need.

    Good luck!

    Hi Diana,

Just came across this conversation and was hoping you could help. My Swedish wife and I live in the UK and will be applying through the London Embassy by Direct Consular Filing. We are in the process of getting our Swedish paperwork together and have already requested the Personbrevis. A few questions on this and other forms...

What does the English extended version of the Personbevis/Extract of the Population Register show that the standard one doesn't that proves change of name? The one we have lists "Name as single" - is that enough? The other form we have is something like "Andring av Efternamn" but is only in Swedish so do we need to get this professionally translated? Do both of these forms need to be notarised?

The aspect of the Personbrevis I'm a little worried about is that it doesn't show when my wife moved to/from Sweden she goes back regularly and wanted to maintain residence there, will that make a difference? She can obviously show her EU passport as proof of being allowed to stay in the UK when we send that paperwork in.

Last question... you mention getting the passport stamped by the police - what exactly do they stamp? We thought you just had to send in a photocopy of the photo page? Perhaps things are a little different with DCF than they are with applying directly to through the US?...

Thanks in advance for your help!

  5. Thank you so much! That really helps especially since it looks like you've done it from Sweden specifically. Are you the Swede? We got married in the U.S. so we will have our marriage certificate from there but I changed my last name through Sweden first and I believe it says I need to send proof o a last name change so i think that's the only thing I'd need to add to that I-130 packet that you did not have. Thank you so much again, that cover letter is really helpful!

 Yes I'm the Swede and we have been doing the process from Sweden. I also changed my name but the change of name was mentioned on the certificate from Skatteverket (the extended version) which is the same as the marriage certificate. So I didn't have any additional pappers for that. But it sound to me like you should be able to get one of those from Skatteverket, specially if you have a "personnummer" and if you been registered here at some point in time.

Otherwise I don't know. Happy that I could help!

  6. My visa status show " Issued "

What is waybill ? I havent received any instructions. What are the next steps like visa fee, greencard fee ? I read on the travel website said paying $165 visa fee, what is this fee ? I am so confused.

    Any helps please.

I have the same that you had Visa status says Issued! And now I'm also wondering what happens next?

I see that you didn't get any answers but perhaps you know the answer by now. What are the next steps, how do I get my greencard and how to pay visa fee?

Will all the instruction be on the envelope from the embassy?

Please if you have more answers on what happens now, please let me know.

    Thanks!

  7. Hi guys,

My husband and I are just beginning the Green Card application process and we have begun filling out the I-130. I am the American citizen and my husband is Swedish. I have been reading differing information the topic, but when I look at the list of things to send with application it does not seem like we need to submit any sort of Identification documents for my husband. I only see that they would need either my U.S. Birth certificate or photo copies of my passport. Is this correct or do we need to be sending in my husband's birth certificate as well with the I-130?

Also, if anyone has any useful tips about things that have held them up with the I-130 or any information at all it's greatly appreciated! We're worried about submitting things incorrectly.

In the first stage the filling of the I-130 you it its mostly about the American citizen. We sent both a copy of my husband's (the American) birth certificate and a copy of the first page of his US passport just in case. Is as another member answered the filling of the I-130 is more about establishing that you are american and eligible to apply for document for a family/husband to enter US. But you will need to send a copy of your marriage certificate were it says that you two are married.

Now depending on where you guys got married, if in Sweden then the marriage certificate is from Skatteverket and you can get in in English.

Later when you get to the NVC (National Visa Center) stage it will be more about your Swedish husband and then you will need a copy of his passport, that has to be stamped as original by the authority that issued the passport in Sweden it is the Police (Polisen). He will have to go there with its passport and ask for copies with stamps in english and they will help him. He will also need his Birth Certificate from Skatteverket (Swedish Tax office), he will need the extended version with information on his parents in english and also have it stamped and certified. This will be done by Skatteverket too. So you might as well start gathering those pappers too.

I could not upload a Word copy of the cover letter with info on what we sent But hopefully a p df works as well: You can modify it for your case. Hope it helps!

    Regards

  8. Hello everyone,

my fiance and I are about to start our journey (nervousness) and are right now collecting everything we need for the I-129F.

I read on the wiki checklist that we need to include my Divorce Decree but I only have it in Swedish and need to get it translated into English. Do I need to find a certified translator and if so, where do I find one?

My husband translated some document himself as he read that it was ok on VisaJourney. BUT when we got to Embassy level they send you an email stating that the translation need to be certified translator. When I read it I was so mad and stressed about it as now time is of matter. Luckily we don't have to translate all those pappers because we won't need to use it as the situation has changed for us. But I'm still having a head-deck with another document that has to be translated and certified. So take my advise and get it done from the beginning! I attached what the Embassy sent us just so you know (and the highlighted are was sent like that by the Embassy, NOT me)

    Hope it help!

    *Translation Requirements

All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations. Please note that the applicant cannot him/herself translate the documents. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

    Translation is accurate, and,

    Translator is competent to translate.

For a list of authorized translators located in Sweden please see: http://www.kammarkollegiet.se/

  9. Hi! I've been reading every single post all weekend and I must say I'm really glad I'm not the only one feeling confused :P I'm Swedish, my hubby is from Texas. We got married there in 2010 and he's been living with me in Sweden since 2011. Now we've jumped on this crazy visa journey and hopefully it will get us back to Texas in no time ;) We sent in the I-130 26/7, got our NOA1 11/8 and exactly a month later we got our NOA2. Now we are bugging NVC every other day to get our case-and IIN number. Last Friday my hubby called them and they said they have our paperwork but they need to put in in their system. They said they expect to be able to give us the numbers within 42 days from the NOA2... Hurry up then!!! I think we have gathered almost all the required paperwork except the I-864, we are waiting on our sponsor to do their part back in the US. I can't wait to be done with all the paperwork, mixed messages and lack of clean and simple instructions. Or maybe they are easy but I make them harder to understand :P Congratulations to all of you who already have your visas and good luck to the rest of us :)

I hear you it's not easy! The whole process is kind of stressful with all the mixed message and you think everything is done and the get new information. Anyways just ventilating my own frustation I guess! I am sure everything should be fine. Just so you know 42 days is really long, we got the same information but everybody else was talking about around 21 days and for us it was almost on the spot. Also we did as you called NVC not everyday but almost every week and stuff kind of happened when you called them otherwise it was quite so...

And I liked Saylins checklist and forum called NVC filers (month) if you haven't already joined it! Good luck to you!

  10. I received P4 letter with the list of documents needed for the interview. I registered for address delivery confirmation on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/sebefore interview date. Pls make sure to print out the confirmation page for the interview. And couple days later, i received email from NVC for confirming interview date n it showed READY on CEAC Web rightafter. A week later, i received another email from NVC saying that they received physical supportting documents from NVC. They narrowed down my needed lists from 10 docs to 3 docs. So i only need to bring passport, police certificate, and proof of address delivery confirmation.

You have to register your address delivery confirmation prior your interview date

This is for sweden resident http://www.ustraveldocs.com/se

Other country pls visit this n select right region http://www.ustraveldocs.com

Ok! I have registered my adress on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/se but nor heard anything jet. It might come still but now I know a bit more about the process.

    Thank you

  11. You will get an email from the Stockholm embassy once they have received your packet from the NVC.

Tthey will confirm the time of the interview and what you will need to bring with you.

(at least that is what we got, and we will have our interview this coming Tuesday)

Nothing to confirm on the CEAC page or in any other way.

Just wanted to say thank you!

  12. Hi guys!

Hope I can get your help.

So I received my interview P4 letter from NVC for my CR1 application on the 15 of September. But I have not heard anything from the embassy and in the CEAC page it says At NVC. Do you know if we are suppose to receive an email or some confirmation from the embassy as well?

I also noticed that my P4 letter is a total 5 pages but page number 2 is blank (nothing on it) is this normal?

And finally I'm I suppose to confirm my interview day somehow on the CEAC page or any other way? I can't find any instructions on this!

    Thank you

  13. You need to confirm your interview date by register your delivery address confirmation thru the web before it shows ready in ceac. After you confirm your date, you will receive an email saying " thank for confirming your interview date , blahblahblah,...." That was what i did.

What do you mean, confirm your delivery adress at CEAC? Where do you go to confirm this? I received my P4 letter but nothing in it says anything about that. (But I also notice that the P4 letter has 4 pages but page number 2 is totally empty)

When I go to CEAC check status it still also says At NVC

    Thank you for answer

  14. Hi,

Yes, i did call. I told them my interview date is 9/16. But

    Stockholm avail date 9/14

    Gothenburg avail date 9/24

I emailed the embassy and was told still attending the interview. Its ok for medical exam to come later. Hopefull it wont be delayed.

Do you know how to go to sweden page to view all Swedish had passed for the interview ?

Hi! I just saw your answer and question! But Not really sure ho you mean, Swedish passed page?

But in this link you can see all with scheduled Interview from Sweden but you have to go in to every profile to see more info as if they passed.

    http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list.php?cfl=0&op1=3&op2=d&op3=&op4=1&op5=5,6,8,10,11,13,14,15,16,17,18,20,21,22,25,26,27,28,108,110,111,208,210,211&op6=All&op66=All&op7=Sweden&dfile=No&adv=0

    Also the in spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xbLl_8yDgHLeDaLnTrPdYc44J0sjPSFfYCKxlKx6uTY/edit#gid=0

you can see all that have Interview date. But here too you have to look up one by one!

Hope it helps! Good luck tomorrow!

  15. Thanks! Yeah, It's weird that it didn't take longer seeing as a lot of people here didn't get interview dates for months. It might be because the embassy isn't as busy as many others.

Thanks! It must be, have you tried calling the NVC about your interview? I still haven't received an e-mail from them.

I called them really really late last night and YES! I got an interview day too, the 26 of October (the day before my birthday!). I was wishing to be together with my husband on my birthday but this is really good news :joy: I know a lot of people are still waiting for their interview so I'm happy to have one at least.

No, e-mail either, not even a CC confirmation e-mail. They mentioned that it was scheduled the 11 and the CEAC webpage is still At NVC but they said we should receive it in a couple of days. So fingers crossed!

  16. I don't think I'm following, what do you mean with "considering that you have everything set and ready"..? ☺️

I hope Maria is right that they do more than one interview a day, haha. I'm doing the CR1 thingy, already married. Don't know if that's any different from K1 interviews or tourist visa interviews..

It would really suck to have to wait several months for an interview :( hubby's birthday is December 20th, our anniversary is December 26th and of course Christmas on the 25th. (And New Years..)

Hi Danielhenson! I'm on the same process CR1/IR1 that you and just a month or less ahead of you. You can count with approxm 20 days from the 8 of September to receive your CC (but it can be less too :joy: ). This is IF you don't get a checklist. I was so worried about getting a checklist too but it went fine as long as you know that you have sent everything they asked for.

I got my CC on the 4 of September and I am now waiting to get an interview day. The NVC schedules it for you so you can just wait, but I have seen that when you receive your interview date you can contact the embassy and ask/beg for a closer date. I would also recommend to call the NVC when you are getting closer to the 20 days of waiting and see if you have your CC.

Don't lose hope I think you can count on Christmas with your love :)

 Maybe you can also try to schedule your medical for October so.. if and when you get your interview that is already done!

When I had my interview last week (CR1) there were one K1, two CR/IR1 and one who had been petitioned by his father. Everyone with an 8:30 appointment. The reason I know is because you can hear everything people say when they have their interviews!

The rest of the room was full of non-immigrant visas (not K1) but the process for them was very different.

ESGW and all others that have gotten your interview date. How long did it take for NVC to schedule interview after CC? Did you call NVC and asked or just waited for an email with the information? Thanks

  17. U need help ASAP.my IV bill was paid on August 31... It showed paid on September 2... I started my ds260 form and saved it to complete it later. Then lo and behold the day after I logged in to complete it I realized that my fee went back to in process hence the link to complete the form became unavailable. I called NVC and they are giving the run around and said I have to wait a few days. Its way past the 2-3 business rule. How do I get around this.. The money has been deducted from my account. These people are causing a great delay

I kind of hade the same situation. I paid the IV fee and started the DS-260 but the IV payment was rejected so I could not processed with the DS-260. I hade to pay the IV fee again and after a some days ( 5 in total) I could access the DS-260 again and continue the application. Meantime I proceeded with sending in the IV documents and the AOS package to NVC. And then when... the DS-260 was available again I finished it and send it! I did not have to start writing all over again wish was good.

Hope hearing my experience helps. Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
