  1. Okay, so, obviously no one had an answer for me but in case you are ever in this position, call the NVC and be very insistent about talking to a supervisor, explain the situation and hopefully it will be easily cleared up!

Don't let the operators give you any weird solutions. Politely but firmly keep requesting a supervisor. One operator told me that I would have to request the police cert anyway regardless of what the NVC website says (which would take at least an additional 2 months) and then the next one I called said I would need to send a letter to the NVC explaining that we only lived there for 10 months and under the rules we weren't required to send in a police cert... which would have been toooootally ridiculous. I kept asking for a supervisor, was told to call back later a couple times and FINALLY got through and she cleared the problem up handily. She said we were right and took it off our checklist.

Hopefully she really did fix it and our CC is coming! :)

  2. Hi all,

New here. Probably going to break some etiquette and for that I'm sorry! Quick question though!

We are going through the IR1 visa procedures at the NVC and so far everything has gone swimmingly. We paid our fees and sent in our financial documents and supporting documents etc. Today the 60 days was pretty much up for their review annnnnnnd we get a checklist. Normally, I would just be annoyed with myself for making a mistake and send in the docs but this checklist is their mistake and I need help from experienced VJers to know my options!

They check-listed us for two police certs: one we already sent in and one is N/A to us (a police cert for a foreign country in Europe where we studied abroad but lived for less than a year).

From what I understood from the NVC page ( http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/submit/documents-to-submit-to-nvc.html)you only need to send a police cert if you lived in a foreign country for MORE THAN one year, which my husband didn't. We both lived there for 10 months and clearly wrote that on the visa application.

What can we do? Do we have any options or do we just have to play along with their error?

    Thank you for the advice!

    Suro

  3. I don't know about your specific case but I can suggest a possible problem with your application because we had a similar issue with ours from Brazil. Here, you need two different police certificates. You need a statewide certificate (we printed this from the internet) and one national cert from the policia federal (you can usually print this one from the internet too but it didn't work for us so we had to go to the PF and request it and return a week later to pick it up). Did you send in both of those or just one? Also, did you translate your certs and send in a little note certifying the translation's validity? I've read that translating isn't necessary but I did it and I would recommend you do it as well. Good luck!
