  1. I just wanted to add that if it wasn't mentioned on here the GI bill means that she(he??) served in the military. I think that if you serve this country your medical care should be provided for - through Medicaid or whatever. I think that for military or ex-military people the immigration guidelines are different and I think it's only 100% of the poverty line not 125%.

From what I understand that's only if they're on active duty.

  2. I hope you won't be able to get Medicaid should you have a child. If you can't afford a child, wait until you can. Once you get your nursing degee and a job, you will have insurance to cover pre-natal and maternity care expenses as well as insurance for your child and husband.

It is not the governements's responsibiity to pay for you to have a baby. You are getting an educations, is that not enough?

I don't think this response was appropriate. First of all, from all the taxes we pay into our govt YES the responsibility of healthcare and education should fall on them. Most average ppl can't afford to pay their medical bills even with insurance since medical insurance is a big business like the medical field and pretty much sucks! She did not ask your opinion on the ethics of medicaid and it's really none of your business who pays whose medical bills for what reason. If you don't know the answer to the question posted then don't reply. Keep your personal opinions to yourself.

Sorry if that sounded harsh

As for the question posted... I have heard on another immigration forum that pregnancy medicaid is not one of the benifits that is not allowed due to sponsorship of an immigrant or being sponsored as an immigrant but I don't know if you would qualify for it with your GI income since you stated that is above the 125% level.

    Good luck!

  3. If you look at your online case status, you can see the date the case was last updated... or "touched"

BTW welcome to the ME/NA forum :D

Shukran / Thank you!!!! :D I'm glad to be here. It's nice to know there are others who have been or are on the same journey as me! And I've found a lot of help here already!

  4. Welcome Mrs. Z. I'm Layla and pretty new here too. I had some experience with the Cairo government last year when I met my husband there. I thought it was going to be such an easy process and thought I really had everything worked out before leaving.. the plan was to arrive there and have our religous ceremony that night and then the next day we would go get our marriage certificate and file the I-130 there at the embassy and was even hoping that he'd get his interview while we were still in town. We didn't get past the religous ceremony because of all the running around we had to do trying to get everything we needed just to get the marriage certificate. Needless to say we didn't even bother wasting our time. After three weeks I came home and filed our I-129F and I'm actually grateful for the Egyptian govt being such a pain because from what I hear it's faster to get the fiance visa anyway. :P I have talked to an atty about this though and I believe if you have proof that you submitted that I-130 then you can also submit an I-129F and he can come faster on that and then wait here for the other to be approved. I may have misunderstood though so maybe someone else here has experience with that? Well good luck and inshallah we'll all be with our DHs soon (L)

  5. I ve been checking the California Service Center processing dates... and till this day they are still processing December 31, 2005... but Vermont is already processing February 19th!!! why is that? me and my fiance have sent in the I-129 in Feb 16.... and i am just wondering if anyone knows about the hold up in California.. and how long is it going to take them to start processing February

I was just wondering the same thing! That site hasn't been updated since 3-20-06 but my main concern is WHY, if they're transferring files to another service center, do they not send them to Vermont who is obviously NOT as backed up as the others???? My petition wasn't even supposed to go to CSC. I sent it to TSC as instructed on the form but then got a receipt notice from CSC. Thank God for that because TSC is still on December 15, 2005 so at least that's some kind of progress. But I'm still at WHY NOT VERMONT??? :crying:

On another note... what is RFE? LOL I get so lost with all the acronymns on this site

  6. I'm kind of new here. I filed the petition in January and have received the receipt so now we're just waiting. I'm stressing over the affidavit of support though. I don't meet the income requirement and I've heard about other immigrants having a church or something sponsor them. Is that really possbile? Does anyone know of any organizations that sponsor immigrants? Thanks
