  1. Exactly.

I had my interview in May, Once I had my MTL number and knew it arrived at the consulate, I started preparing my Packet 3. It's super easy. I printed the packet 3 checklist, checked all the things I had (I don't have death/divorce, court and Military so I just put N/A on that line).

    On the P3 you have the email adress where you have to send that checklist (Just scan it, or if you don/t have a scanner there are some applications on smartphone that work really well, I used Tiny scanner). You title it that way ;

    “CASE_NUMBER – DS-160 CEAC # BARCODE”

Usually, they are quick on coming back to you , they sent an email telling me I wasd good to schedule my interview the next day.

I see you are approved - CONGRATULATIONS!! Thank you for the information. So we can move forward with the packet 3 process without officially having it send to us? Also, can we checkmark the police record if he is about to get that done and we know nothing will come of it?

    Exactly.

Oh...and what about those random forms it mentions in my screen shot??

  2. Did you get packet 3? I got this by email I believe. You need to do that then you get packet 4 and then schedule your interview, then schedule your medical to occur prior to your interview. Once you send the packet 3 pages back it goes quickly.

No, we have not received anything regarding packet 3. We do have the pdf that is floating around asking for the checklist, biographic passport scan and DS160 bar code scan. We are going to email those, is that correct? And the checklist, we just need the police report so is it okay to send it if he is going Friday to get the report?

    Thanks so much.

  3. If this post is repeated, I am very sorry but my fiance and I need some help. We have searched so many forums, clicked so many links, and we now need help. I have found some very helpful forums but they are from previous years and I know there has been many updates on the visa sites. I've uploaded two screen shots. One is what happens when we check our status...it says Ready and it's time to schedule the interview. However, when you go to do that, it says wait until you get packet 4. Now before you check on that, it says make sure you get packet 3. And now the other screen shot shows forms we've never heard of to fill out and send who knows where.

When we click the link on the Ready popup, it takes us to a completely different site providing info to prepare for the interview and never mentions packet 3.

Would love some recent applicants to help us. Here is what we have done

    • NOA 1 & 2 complete
    • NVC complete
    • Case number assigned
    • DS-160 completed online with confirmation
    • Registered for the interview site...did not schedule one yet.

Any help or links or anything current is so appreciated. Thank you!!

  4. I have no idea where to begin looking for this answer and my search generates results about having an adopted child, which isn't the case. Here is my question: Is there any type of form or record that needs to be handled for birth children that are no longer legally his? For deeply personal reasons, he relinquished his parental rights so his ex's new husband could adopt the children. Because he does not have any contact with them, and they are legally another man's children, we did not include them on the k-129f. We are at the place for him to fill out the DS-260 and I just want to make sure there isn't something lurking that has to be handled.

He has access to all the legal documentation and will have it with him, but his original divorce papers do mention custody agreements since the adoptions occurred a few months after the divorce.

Anyway, I hope that makes sense and your sensitivity to this situation is so appreciated.

  5. I don't know that there is any real advantage to trying to get this done ahead of him moving. I know many of us want to get our new lives started but banks have been pretty finicky about what's required to add a non US person to an account or start a joint account with one. And of course every bank seems to have different rules.

I appreciate your reply. It's not about getting our 'lives' started really (we are handling things very methodically and making sure we are in the best position possible when he comes), but it has more to do with setting aside a portion of our incomes that we cannot access so anything unpredictable will not hinder the paperwork process. It looks like we have some options based on other replies. Thank you though. :)

  6. While in Canada, we opened a US account with a (local/regional) bank right across the border. Their branch was very much used to having Canadians open accounts, so they were able to use SIN and my now husband's Canadian IDs, instead of the usual SSN and US IDs. We signed our signature cards in person (we lived somewhat near the border, so that was no biggie for us). Maybe something like that could work for you guys too?

That might be an option for us. I go in July but then we are driving to Maine to see my dad so we have options. Thank you for your reply!

We opened a joint savings account while I was still his fiance. But we both went into his bank together (in Texas) on one of my visits down there prior to the move. Because I did not yet have a SSN, they simply used all 8's in that place. Once I moved down, got married and received my SSN, I just went in and updated it with the bank.

Thank you! That's excellent to know!

  7. RBC, Royal Bank of Canada, should let you do it--their US branches are based out of Georgia.

Thank you for your answer! We will be living in Michigan but we could always open one and then after he is here and married, we can change it to my bank. We just want to start saving. Thanks again!

You can try BofA or Wells Fargo ... one thing to be careful about is if they ask if your husband is a U.S. citizen ... make sure he says "no". When I set my set my husband up on my account (online) I left that blank and wrote that he was a in the citizenship process. We had to go in and show documentation NOA1s etc.

This may not be helpful or answer your question. I just wanted to share our experience.

Good luck on your journey :)

Thank you for your reply and well-wishes. We aren't married yet but any information is useful information as far as we are concerned. Thank you!

  8. I have researched this site and found information regarding single accounts and then joint accounts if married, my question is while my Canadian fiance' and I wait throughout the Visa process (just had our NOA1) we wanted to open up a joint savings account to both put allotted money into for upcoming costs, wedding, honeymoon, etc. I have done numerous searches and have found mixed information. I guess I just want to know if anyone has successfully done this? It appears to be a bank discretionary issue, and there also seems to be potential hiccups regarding being 'in-person' when signing the signature card. In saying that, I've seen the acceptance of signature cards that have been faxed.

Anyone have success with this and if so, what bank did you use that allowed it?

    Thank you very much.
