Newark also. Good luck!

I recommend bringing copies of everything, easily catalogued in tabs in case you need to present it. Especially important to have employment backup if they ask for it: 2 months of pay stubs, latest tax return or IRS transcript and employment verification letter from your company.
Our IO had a copy of our application and docs we submitted. The main thing she did was to check it off against originals.
The only thing we were asked to present were:
Immigrants passport
Sponsors and immigrants birth certs
American born child birth certificate
Marriage cert
And open question to provide backup for the relationship.
We gave:
Photos
Joint bank account
Copy of health insurance card with both names on it

Same thing happened to us: sponsor lost job but immigrant's job makes more than enough. Our AOS is from a TN.
We filled out a revised sponsor form including total household income (original form just had sponsors income). Also printed tax return, payroll stubs and HR letter.
The IO went over the original application and was confirming both of ours employers etc and sponsor mentioned the layoff since etc but the IO just made a note in the file and we didn't need to provide anything else.
AOS was approved on the spot.

Reading online I saw confirmations from folks that USPS won't forward USCIS mail.
So, maybe I would be better just holding my mail for the next couple of months until the interview notice is received?
-
@templeton
Did your GC get sent back because the recipient at your soon-to-be-new address didn't recognize it and punted it back or did it arrive in an envelope with do not forward (or whatever else service USPS provides to senders at request).
We have access to the new house/mail already so receiving there is fine.
My main concern is that I don't want USCIS to move my file/interview (when It's time to schedule it) to Newark. It will require me taking an unpaid day off vs going to Manhattan location.
-
@justxcookiessame boat as you.
Package sent feb. biometrics done. EAD/AP received after 68d.
Still says pending. Our field office is NYC and they have a serious backlog. Who knows.
-
I'm in NYC too and stuck on Fingerprint fee received.
I've traveled multiple times on my AP since I got it. On my last entry the office asked me if I scheduled my interview. On his computer he said that as of April it said ready to schedule interview. Yet on website I access and when calling national office they give me the standard answer.
Weird
I'm moving to NJ before the end of summer and was hoping not to have to change my address to the Newark field office since I work NYC and it's easier to get to an interview during the day.

Hi folks. I live in NYC and work in Manhattan, which is my field office. I'm moving to NJ right across the river and Newark would be the new office.
Does updating my address bump my file to Nj?
I was thinking of just keeping my address on file as NYC and with USPS mail forwarding I'll get any documents they mail me.
The reason is that it's easier to make it to an interview during business hours if it's in Manhattan because for Newark I'd need to take at least half a day off.
Thanks for any feedback guys

@soydeel
I called the national call center a couple of times. The last time I was told that the update on transfer takes a while to update. I also read somewhere that all "standard" AOS is done in field office so that makes NYC the location for me. (Call center told me mine is in NYC)
Actually I meant November because the last USCIS update (early May) said that as of March 31, 2015 the office was working on August 16th filings.
The update prior to this (feb 28 update) had July 22 as the application date.
https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do
So if we use beginning date as August 16 and ending date as March 31 we can calculate 151 business days (based on federal and NY state holiday schedule) (227 calendar days. I used timeanddate.com to calculate.
My NC date of Feb 10 plus 151 business days gets me to Sept 16. (218 calendar days)
@soydeel I meant Sept. Not Nov.

@soydeel
Are you going through NYC field office? Same here, if you are. The timeline looks discouraging. November? I was hoping for a July interview.

Thank you. I have the same thing on my SSN that I got on my prior no immigrant visa. I guess I'll need to wait until the GC Is in hand before these qualifiers are removed from the SSN card and drivers license
It says valid for work only with dhs authorization and then his ssn right under it
-
Does the SSN have any qualifier written on it? Like "valid for work only with DHS authorization" or is it just his name and SSN number on it? Thanks
My husband got his ssn today! Only took a week!
-
@icampos
Out here at the NY DMV They want to see your SSN card. the number alone isn't sufficient.
-
Just a note to those who need their SSN ASAP. When I moved to the U.S. years ago my emoloyer needed my social, which hadn't come in for weeks after I applied. Finally there was a form that my HR had to sign requesting my SSN earlier (than the card arrival). I took that form to the SSA office and they printed me a piece of paper with my social
-
Roman. If you are approved for AP then Your EAD card should say on the bottom : "serves as I-512 Advance Parole".
-
Question to all who got their SSN but haven't gotten their GC yet Does your card have a qualifier on it?
I got my SSN when first coming to America on a TN so my card says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" and my license thus has a "visitor" qualifier on it. I am wondering if now that I have EAD I can get these removed or, as I suspect, better to wait until the GC is in hand.

Whoa. I called the main customer support line today and was told that the I-485 is being processed by my local office (NYC) and that they're processing July 12th submissions right now. Give my Feb 2015 filing date this doesn't seem like I would see anything until November.
I thought that the AOS process would be a bit quicker and was expecting a June-July interview/approval based on early Feb filing.
What say you, fellow February class?
-
EAD card in hand. Valid from 4/14. Delivered by priority mail "return service requested" envelope. Accompanying letter that the card is glued to is dated April 17.
-
Just got an email that USPS delivered my card. I'll report when I get home tonight.
-
I don't have an update on the I-485. Just initial receipt. EAD mailed out today. My initial filing date was feb 6 with the 10th being the NOA date.
Are folks in similar boat with no word on 485 despite EAD being approved ?
Thanks
-
Good morning all. Just got the latest update email from USCIS saying that the new card (EAD/AP) is being mailed out today.
-
Just got the approval emails. AP and EAD approved. No need yet on 485
-
I can't help but refresh my case status every hour. The suspense is unreal.
Feb 6 and 10 NOA dates over here.
-
Still nothing
Filed Feb 6th (date received bia courier)
Notice date is Feb 10 for 485 and Feb 6 for EAD and AP.
Did biometrics in early March but haven't submitted medical. Hoping that doesn't slow down interview schedule as I'd like to just bring it to the interview.

Just know that when you're coming back in on AP you will always have to go through secondary inspection. This is more or less a formality but it can add time if there's a lineup in Secondary
