Hi, Yeah I noticed that too. Unfortunately, I don't have a great answer for you. If you check the LACC, they skip June. If you look at us courts site (https://www.cacd.uscourts.gov/clerk-services/naturalization-ceremony-locations-and-schedule), they only provide schedule until May. A couple of things I can guess from these, first is they may hold an oath ceremony in June but its not a judicial one which is why its not showing up in the us courts site. Or it maybe judicial and their website is just not updated. Sometimes they use a different venue (Pomona, Anaheim, Montebello and San Bernardino) which explains why its not showing up at LACC schedule. Second, they may just schedule you for July at LACC. Hopefully they squeeze you in for May.

My naturalization interview is on the 19 of this month and the oath ceremony here in Los Angeles is on the 20th. Is it possible that if i pass my oath ceremony will be the following day?

Hi, I was in the same situation last march (also Los Angeles). My interview was the 17th and oath ceremony was the 18th. Same as you, I was also hoping to be included in the ceremony the next day and even asked the IO after my interview if it were possible to do that. Unfortunately, she told me that all slots were taken and that she was unable to include me the next day. I don't think its a hard and fast rule though. So it would depend on availability of slots at that time.

You already got some pretty good answers above. Just want to reaffirm that expired or expiring GC is usually not a huge issue as it pertains to your n-400 application. My friend filed his n-400 in december while his GC was expiring in february. He did not encounter any issues regarding the expiring GC nor was he ever asked about it during the process. He took the oath in april when the GC was already expired. I've also read similar experiences in this forum that support this.

She did request a name change so your theory could be valid. However, just snooping around while the certificates were being distributed, I noticed that most of the other ones that I saw were actual photos and not the digital ones like mine. You could still be right, maybe a lot of people did request name changes.

Also, at the interview, she (nor I) was never asked to sign the photo as I've seen some people in this forum were asked to do. So her signature wasn't showing on any of the photos. Dont know if that makes a difference.

This confirms that they sometimes use the biometrics photo and sometimes use the submitted photo for biometrics.

Just curious, did your wife do a name change? I've seen that most people who request a name change end up with the submitted photo because the signature printed on the biometrics photo is no longer valid.

Me and my wife together with 3,938 more in Los Angeles, became US Citizens yesterday morning. There was another session in the afternoon which probably had a similar number of people. The ceremony went smoothly. We checked in a little before 8am. We got to our seats around 8:10. Judge arrived around 9am and conducted the oath. A couple more speeches, announcements and congratulations ensued and the ceremony ended with the singing of the National Anthem and God Bless the USA. We waited for another 10 minutes for our section to be called then lined up for the Naturalization Certificate. Something to note though, my wife's certificate came with the photo she submitted with the n-400 packet (no signature in front). Mine had the biometrics photo with a digital signature.

Thanks for all the help and volunteered information in this forum. I almost never had to ask questions myself since a lot of the people before me had already asked them and the answers were readily available. Good luck to those still in the middle of this process. I wish yours goes as well as mind did. Now on to the passport application!

Thanks for the update man. I had my interview 2 days after yours and barely got online for oath on the 1st. Hope I am gonna be in the April 22nd batch. Are you for the morning or afternoon?

Alphonse, I did get online updates. Status changed from Interview Scheduled to in-line for Oath Ceremony on 3/27/15. Then changed to Oath Ceremony Scheduled on 3/31/15. Received the letter on 4/3/15. For what its worth, I had my interview the same day and same local field office as my wife and she got her online updates and oath letter a full week before I did. I was worried there for a while but my case eventually caught up with hers.

Hello everyone!

I just got back from my interview and everything went very smoothly. I was there for about an hour in total but the interview itself was quite short (a LOT of waiting). Of course i don't remember all of the test questions but they definitely asked the following:

Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

Name 3 of the original colonies?

Who is the commander in chief? (I'm actually not sure which question it was but the answer was definitely 'the President'; you know there are several questions with that answer)

My writing test was: The people elect Congress.

My first surprise was that there was no reading portion of the test. I'm not sure if he forgot or something else but I did not mention it to him Afterwards we went through my application but that was also super quick. At the end of the interview i got my second surprise when he told me that I would get my oath letter after a few minutes.

So, long story short, my ceremony will be on 04/17. I'm so happy about that because my parents are visiting at the moment and they will be here for the ceremony :-)

Hello All,

I had my interview yesterday and I passed! Below are the details of my experience:

My wife and I went to the downtown LA field office together. My appointment was for 10:50am and hers was for 11:35am. We both arrived a little after 10am. The security guard was very friendly. He told us we were way too early and normally he would tell us to come back in 30 minutes but instead he said he would see what he can do. He told us to have a seat in the waiting room. There were about 15-20 people in the waiting room but my guess is there were maybe only 5-10 applicants as most people had family/friends they brought with them.

I was called in about 10:20. The IO led me to her office and conducted the oath. She was very nice and friendly. After the oath, she asked me to take a seat and proceeded to let me know how the flow of the interview was going to go. She said we would take the tests to get that out of the way then we would go through my n-400 form in detail.

For the Reading test, she handed me a piece of paper that had 3 sentences on it. She asked me to read the first sentence which I did. She handed me a piece of paper that had 3 blanks on it. She told me to write "We pay taxes" on the first line, which I did. We proceeded to the civics questions. The questions were (not in this order):

- What is freedom of religion?

- What is the ocean on the East coast?

- When are men required to register for Selective Service?

- How many senators are there?

- Name one state that borders Canada?

- When was the constitution written?

I answered all of these questions correctly so she stopped and informed me that I passed all the tests. She then proceeded to go through my N-400. She went through each question without exception. I made a couple of corrections to my form. The first was a correction to the travel dates. They were mostly one day off as i picked up the wrong dates in my passport. She said, no big deal. She got the printouts that I brought and labeled them as exhibits. The other correction was for answering no to question #23. I provided details of my traffic violations and that they were paid for and dismissed. She also added those as exhibits. After going through the form, she had me sign the form. She printed out a form which had my personal details. She told me to review for accuracy as this would be used to finalize my naturalization certificate. I went ahead and reviewed then signed. At that point, I was a bit more relaxed and noticed a lot of fan paraphernalia of our local sports team and we started talking about that for about 10 minutes!

I asked if I could be included in the oath ceremony for the next day (today) but she told me that the slate was already full but that I would be included in the next one. Apparently, both sessions for oath taking ceremonies today in LA will have 5000 participants each session. So with that she handed me a form saying that I was recommended for approval and that I should receive my oath date in the mail. She led me out back to the waiting room. I was done at 10:50 which was my original appointment time. My wife came out about 5-10 minutes later. So she was done about 30 minutes BEFORE her original appointment time.

A couple of other things I learned while talking to the IO:

- I complemented her about the LA field office not being backed up. She mentioned that there were 4 field offices that serve LA. 2 in downtown, 1 in San Bernardino and another in Santa Ana. For being the 2nd largest region (NYC is the first), they are well staffed to handle all the applications.

- She said they experience a surge in applications around April maybe due to tax refunds the people receive during that time. But also a lull in applications around December.

- I compared notes with my wife after our interview and she was asked the exact same civic questions that I had been asked. So maybe they use the same questions for a day.

So thats it! I only have the oath ceremony to look forward to. Hopefully nothing major happens between now and then to jeopardize my process. I usually want to give at least 1 week notice. The interview date wont be a problem. I can actually ask for 2 days just in case but i didnt want to "waste" a vacation day if there was no chance of being scheduled for the next day. But good to know that it has actually happened before.

Quick question. My interview date is set for 3/17. I checked the oath taking ceremonies schedule here in Los Angeles and it is set for 3/18. Do you guys know if, assuming I pass my interview, they will schedule me for the oath taking the next day? Or is this too soon and I should expect to be included in the April batch? I ask because I am trying to schedule days off with my employer and would like to give proper lead time if they do schedule me for oath taking the next day.
