  1. Hi

We just received the appointment notice for the AOS (10/12). It will be in Baltimore according to the address we live at now, and until September 14th ( my in-laws' house). Nevertheles, we are moving to DC on 09/15 and we are now wondering if we have to let uscis know of our change of address now. Is there a risk for our interview to be deferred because of this?? What if our first address remains the one where we will continue to receive our mail? We will of course notify uscis of our other address at the interview since they will see our new lease..

    I hope that was clear...

    Thanks!

  2. Re: taxes for affidavit of support -- rules have changed and now only one year of tax returns is required, so you should be fine.

Re: letters of employment -- would be ideal to use something more recent, although 3 months ago is not that bad. If using letters from April you may also want to include some recent pay stubs. You may not need a co-sponsor if your spouse is earning the required amount of money now.

thank you! That was very helpful!

and yes I agree with you MarieAnastasia it is terribly confusing!!

  3. My fiance and I are discussing getting married at the court house once he gets his K1 into the country. We'd like to immediately be able to put him on my health insurance, as well as have the ability to plan our wedding TOGETHER (planning with a 1000 miles between us takes all of the fun out of it). So our plan is to, as soon as he gets his K1, him to enter the country and within the first few weeks legally marry. Then, we plan on using as much time as it takes to plan a wedding ceremony.

I've read in some places that in interviews they like to see proof of wedding plans. Well, if we follow this plan, we won't have any. If we have other secondary proof (engagment ring receipt, photos, travel stubs, etc.) will that be enough? Or are they pretty adamant about seeing proof of a planned wedding?

    Thank you!

I can only tell you about my personal experience: When they asked me at the interview whether we already made plans for the wedding I gave them a potential date for the civil ceremony at the courthouse and stressed out that they ( uscis) themselves discouraged people from making plans until they had the visa in hand. I also added we would have a bigger (religious) wedding ceremony a couple months after that, when we would have time to organize it and my fiance and I would be together to do so!

I did bring the "secondary" proof, but they did not ask for it..

  4. I am starting to assemble the AOS package (it looks like a nightmare :o at the moment )..and I wonder if , for the I-864 I can re-use the forms we used when we submitted the Affidavit of support for the K1 (i.e the employer letter from both sponsor and co-sponsor, from April 2006). We will submit the AOS EAD AP in July..Also, what if my fiance only has last year's tax return form and has been a student for the years before that. Is it sufficient if his income is greater than the poverty line now?

    Thank you!

  5. Hi

You can find a civil surgeon near you on the uscis website : http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/exec/cs/index.asp

I am myself still looking for one who does not crazy with the cost of the visit( considering he just has to transfer information from one form to another, when you bring all proof of immunization, etc..)..

You can find the form here: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/pdf/ti-03/appdx-a_693vacc.pdf

    Hope it helps

  6. Hi

I was just thinking about this- I had my medical done in Paris last month, and I photocopied the completed form the doctor gave me for the consulate before I submitted it (it was not in a sealed envelop). I am realizing now that it's lucky because this way I do not have to have the entire medical exam done again here. I also kept the X- Ray (they did not take it from me at the POE).

  7. :goofy: You might want to check out this thread. There is talk of the "temporary EAD" you get through JFK and it might not be worth it accepting a job because your permanent EAD might not come before your temporary one runs out and the you could not legally work and would have to quit. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16588 :goofy:

Oh I already read this, but in my point of view it's always preferable to work, even if it's temporary. You just have to be honest with the employer and tell him it might not last or just take a temporary job. I guess that's a matter of personal choice. ;)

  8. :goofy: Well that's good. I just didn't want you to get yourself in trouble if you didn't have an EAD and started working. We have to look out for each other. :goofy:

Thank you for your concern. :)

I went through JFK because I knew it was the only POE to deliver the work stamps, to be safe, but in any case, during my intervew abroad the Consular officer had told me that I was fully entitled to work with a K1 with or without the stamp until the the visa expired.

  9. Hi

How long does it take for K1 to get a Social Security number (assuming I am waiting for the two weeks to apply)?. I saw somewhere that the SSN office could notify a third party (i.e a potential employer) to save time ( I need the number to start working ) - How long would that take?

    Thank you!

:goofy: My husband got his within 10 days. But my question to you is do you already have your EAD card? I guess you know you can't work without either that or your green card, and my husband's EAD took the ENTIRE 90 days to get. You don't have a visible timeline so I wasn't sure if you've already applied for EAD and got it or not. :goofy:

I came through JFK and had my passport stamped with a work authorization. (temporary of course)

  11. Hi

I arrived last week in the US , with a K1 visa , and I am a bit confused as to where to start from with all the forms! Please forgive me if the answers to my questions already are on this forum

    1. I understand I can file for a SS number next week - I need the number ASAP since I already applied for a job and they are waiting for the number to start my employement- How can I rush the process if it is possible at all? How long does it usually take?

    2. I had a medical examination and vaccins back in France - Is it possible that I still have to see a civil surgeon here twice!??( once when I file for AOS and one more time when they tell me to?) Am I getting it right?

3.Do we have to submit another Affidavit of support (I-864) when we already submitted the I-134 at the embassy abroad??

    4. Am I supposed to do anything else in the meantime, before we get married??

    Thank you very much!!

  12. You have 6 months from the time your visa is in your passport to fly to the states. I'll see if I can find the 'official' link.

That's right . " Once you have the K1 Visa it is good for one entry into the United States within 6 months of the issue date. A K2 Visa holder (child of K1 Visa holder) may enter up to one year after the K1, but a K2 Visa holder may not enter the U.S. prior to the K1. "

  13. Hello all...

Very nice site, and very glad i found it!

I'm currently living in Hawaii and am a US citizen. My fiance' is a Canadian citizen and is currently here in hawaii with me. She is visiting and has to return near the end of July 06. We plan to marry but are quite confused in the options we have. We are both worried about being apart, due to me not able to leave the island. (new job)

Any opinions or possible time frames that are usually seen with this process. We are debating wether to go through the K1, or marry here in Hawaii and apply for the K3.

    Aloha,

    Kevin

I think I read here that some people applied for the K1 visa, and the foreign fiance just had to fly home for the interview..It seems to me like the best way not to be away for longer than necessary...
