  1. Okay, thank you!

Is it a case that now we've gotten our biometrics letter, there is no RFEs?

And once we receive an approval on any of the cases... what happens after that?

Thank you for your help, just not as clued in on the AOS process as I was for K-1 and I-129F :)

You can get RFE's up to and including at your interview. As for after approval you should receive whatever card the approval is referring to in the mail as well as an approval notice I would imagine.

  2. Received my Biometrics appt letter today. My biometrics letter below that indicates bar code with MSC numbers does not has my AP still. However on top section it says sample MSC12345-12347 (3 numbers) Wonder if its EAD combined with AP? Does anyone knows?

Note: I did not receive my NOA for AP, only received EAD and AOS previously too. And yes I submitted all in a package and paid.

I received my biometrics letter the other day. It only has the AOS and EAD. But I did receive my AP NOA1. My thinking is that it's linked to your EAD or you just don't get biometrics for AP cause it's linked to either of the other two. My receipt number range is also the same format.

And if you notice your timeline section it doesn't have a date for AP bio appointment. Thinking that's good.

Not 100% but hopefully it's all ok ?

  3. This may seem like a stupid question... but where do you check your case status, and what number do you use? On the USCIS website it's asking for a receipt number...? When/where do I get a receipt number?

The receipt number is shown at the top of your NOA1 hardcopy. It is also in the email you'd receive from USCIS when they accepted your package (if you attached a G-1145)

The case status is on the USCIS website, so you're in the right place ?

  4. I just called both departments and informed them of my leaving date. Best to do so in case you leave and they think you've been overpaid and try to reclaim. As long as you inform them within 30 days of the change then you should be fine. I got paid up until the date I left, you should get the same.

  5. Just got done reading all those 8 previews pages lol

    now are my questions!:

We are doing the same, but we are having the wedding in Taiwan with my family (not including my friends in Argentina, where I lived for 20 years...)

Thank God I read this, and I saw that my I-485 expired! Now need to struggle again, and re file it again, and print it. SMH

I copied the first address too.. So it needs to go to the PO Box rather than the other address?

You can use either address. It depends on your shipping method.

    USCIS Chicago Lockbox

For U.S. Postal Service (USPS) deliveries:

    USCIS

    PO Box 805887

    Chicago, IL 60680-4120

For Express mail and courier deliveries:

    USCIS

    Attn: FBAS

    131 South Dearborn - 3rd Floor

    Chicago, IL 60603-5517

For instance I used express so I sent mine to the Dearborn address. If you want to use USPS then the lockbox is more suitable. Personal choice really but neither is incorrect. Whichever you send it to it'll still be delivered as they both receive applications. Like I said above it depends on your shipping method for what address is preferred.

  6. If you've signed up to myUSCIS it can be beneficial to get updates. If your deadline is Jan 6th then if you get nothing by then you should be able to request a new one. But a hardcopy is really just that. They obviously have your case considering you got all three electronic confirmations and have all three receipt numbers. So I wouldn't worry too much.

Not 100% sure about the biometrics but I imagine they link the biometrics up to your A number, name, receipt number etc. The hardcopy is just a paper copy of what you've already received really. Nice to have for peace of mind but no major issue with not having it as it doesn't grant anything :)

  7. you were lucky, as usually 'sent out for DHS Verification' is a deep dark pit of despair, with the report issued past day 74 of the POE event. Past day 74? a K-1 visa holder isn't eligible to receive a SSN anymore, must wait until EAD or greencard doc in hand.

Oh yeah! I don't doubt that. I was pretty determined when first arriving and luckily applied in the first week so I'm still well within even my 90 day period :) But yeah, definitely lucky I guess.

  8. Maybe not exactly the same problem but similar when I went to apply for my SSN. I have two middle names and they all showed up as Given Names on both my passport and visa. When applying at the SS office I wrote my middle names as such and there occurred the issue, the gentlemen told me he would have to verify my name with the USCIS. I received a letter saying that it could take up to 4 weeks to verify. I tried contacting the deferred inspection office and basically they told me that they didn't see an issue with my name as it was correct in their eyes.

Anyway, 4 weeks passed and I received a letter saying the SS office had approved my application and I should have my card within 2 weeks and now I have it. I checked my own information in the SAVE database and learned that my case had been returned to the Maryland SS administration pretty quickly from USCIS's side and basically it just took somebody a longer time to process my SSN!

In the end it hasn't been that difficult waiting 5 weeks all together. No biggie.

Just my two cents. :D if it helps any.

  9. Jumping in with the December filers as well!

We sent everything on December 7 and received the 3 NOA1s about two hours ago (benefit of living in Chicago haha). Got assigned to Missouri, all case numbers start with MSC. Where did everyone get assigned to?

Hope things will go fast especially the EAD. It has been a month and a week here in the US and I'm already starting go crazy!

I also received three emails and texts early this morning, late last night! At 12:22am EST. All receipt numbers start with MSC, National Benefits Center :D

  10. Going to jump in on this as I'm preparing my forms before our wedding (Dec 18th!) so we can just enjoy the holidays afterwards! This thread has already been helpful as it's saved me from needlessly filling out the i-693 form!!

I do have a quick question though... my fiance and I are getting married in a courthouse here in California with his family as witnesses (so it's no secret), but we plan to have a 'proper' church wedding back in England in a year or so (when we can afford it!) so all my elderly and extended family and friends can come celebrate with us. I ideally don't want to change my name until after our 'proper' wedding to make it feel as authentic as possible... I do intend to take his name and have declared so on our marriage license. Should I file for AOS with my married or my maiden name? I plan to be known as my maiden name for another year or two yet but does that really matter? It all seems a bit petty when you spell it out like this, but I'm not quite ready to let go of my maiden name yet!

I double-barrelled my last name. John-Smith instead of choosing my husbands by itself. My reasoning; I'm the last youngster in my family and the only female to carry on my family name, I'm rather sentimental to it, our son has the same double-barrel, I like to be different and basically it rolls off the tongue better than just my husbands mixed with my first name. I sound too much like Captain Americas wife haha

Just my two cents. I'd do whatever you ultimately feel comfortable with, it'll be you who mainly has to deal with it. I personally enjoy it! :D

  11. So we just got married and I'm sending off my AOS this Thursday ? So we're now busy with the arduous task of name changing and adding me to utilities and the like. We're interested in getting together wills and medical powers of attorney etc for paperwork down the road as well as for life in general but can't really set aside a huge amount for lawyer fees for that right now.

I've seen LegalZoom being mentioned on here in various posts but no reviews or people who've said they used it and had a good experience.

Basically just wondering if anyone has and if so would you recommend it?

    Thanks y'all ?

  12. You're welcome. And thanks. I'm actually in a town called Flintstone on the Georgia - Tennessee border. Lovely place.

8 months doesn't seem that long. The K1 process was started back in January this year but we'd been apart for much longer. Including the birth of our son. It was hard but certainly worth it!

And now we'll be married in less than two weeks ?

Congratulations on issued though! And perhaps fill in your timeline. It's helpful for fellow members and others can provide more specific information from the timeline data ?

  13. You'll need police certificates from ANY country you have resided in for over 6 months since turning 16. Eg; you lived in UK until 18, France for 1 year, Japan for 1 year and China for 5 months. You'd need police certificates from the U.K., France and Japan but not China as it's less than 6 months. These are important in the process to make sure you haven't committed any crimes etc which would make you ineligible for a visa.
