  1. Hi everyone, I received my new Green Card while visiting my family abroad.

What should I do now- will I get denied boarding tomorrow?

The woman from the airline told me to type in the information of the old document that I have with me and not the new information about my newly arrived Green Card back home.

I m just so confused and don't want trouble at the airport.

I will print copies of my new Green Card and take it with me. Let's see...

Does anyone of you have experience with this? Did you get sent your Green Card when you were abroad? What happened to you?

  2. Hello everyone!

So, I am currently removing the conditions on my green card. I sent the application in (it was received) September 8th, 2017. I see on the processing times that it might take longer than 1 year to get a new green card (VSC)

I am a student, my driver's license will expire in October 2018 and I intend to change my job in the fall as well.

    My questions are:

In New Jersey, what should I do before the Extension Letter of my Greencard expires? (My GC expired October 2017)

I cant find a contact, where I can actually ask a real person in the USCIS website- should I schedule an appointment in a local USCIS office?

Do I have to get a 551 stamp?

Does the DMV accept those stamps to extend the Greencard in NJ?

I want to visit my family over Christmas- can I just normally travel abroad and come back with an expired GC+Extension Letter+Stamp?

    Thank you

    Here is a "new" one.

    You'd need the info on p. 10. & p.38

    Good luck!!!

Thank you so much! I got the information on those pages.

    It was very helpful.

I will just travel to Canada- by car.

My next question is- by the time I am exiting and reentering the country, my extension letter will expire soon after (well, 2 months afterward)

Should I get a stamp in the passport?

    How does that work?

Does anybody have experience with that?

    Thank you!

  4. Hello everyone!

Today I received a reminder from the USCIS saying that I may file for removal of conditions on my 2 year Greencard 90 days before the expiration date (Mine expires 10/24/2017).

In addition, I already have travel plans to go to Austria from the end of July to the end of August.

    My questions now are:

Can I file the removal of conditions before I leave the country?

Is the expiration date still valid after filing for a removal of conditions?

Or is it safer to apply after my travels?

I want to get it done quickly, because my drivers license (NJ) expires in January 2018 and I really need it to work and study.

    Thank you :)

  5. Thank you everybody for commenting!

Yes, I read on the website that, before I receive my NJ teaching license, I will have to sign an affidavit stating that I intent to become a citizen within the first 5 years of teaching. I am assuming that teachers with a foreign nationality are employed at private schools.

I know that Austria does make exceptions concerning the Dual Citizenship topic for people who have been born in Austria. I was just wondering which exact reasons, besides the vague statements on the official website, could count towards retaining my Austrian citizenship.

According to an employee of the Austrian Consulate in NYC, I have to present an urgent predicament that would make me accept the American citizenship (such as the teaching license) and a separate reason that would qualify to keep the original citizenship.

    Thanks again

  6. Hello everyone!

Next year I will have the opportunity to get the US citizenship! I am on the way of becoming a teacher in NJ and found out that in order to become licensed, I need an American passport.

So, I really want to keep my Austrian citizenship, since I am an only child and might need it in the future.

Does anyone have experience with that?

    Thank you

  7. HI,

I am going through the same process right now.

I received an RFE on my full legal name for forms I-131 and I-765.

Did you sent the sworn affidavit, notarized?

    Did you include anything else?

Did you need a witness to get your affidavit notarized?

I hope you dont mind my questions but you could help me a lot with your advice :)

    Thank you

    Ricarda

  8. Thank you for your answers!

Yes, I used my husbands last name on the documents which is now my last name bc I changed the name on my Social Security Cards.

I wasnt able to change my maiden name on my foreign passport yet.

So maybe that is why they were confused.

I will, as suggested, include a statement as well saying that i took my husbands name.

Is there anything else I should include?

Like copies of Social Security Cards?

Do you think I should call the USCIS?

They only connect you to a representative if you "want to report a problem with your application" ...

Again, thanks for the replies :)

  9. Hi there,

I just received two RFEs for the form I-131 and I-765.

It says: "Service records and information provided on your I-765/I-131 applications conflict regarding your full legal name. Please submit a copy of a marriage certificate."

I have 87 days to submit it to an adress in Missouri.

I have sent 3 certified copies of the marriage certificate when submitting the I-485 package! One for each application (I-485,I-131, I-765)

So I dont understand why they request another marriage certificate :(

My issue now is that in New Jersey the marriage certificate states my maiden name next to my husbands full name- but i am not mentioned with my husbands name.

Should I send my Social Security Cards as well to prove the name change??

I dont have a NJ drivers license yet neither did I change my name in my passport yet because I would have to send it via the Austrian Embassy back to Austria and change it there.

Has anybody had the same issue?

    Please help!

Thank you for your advice :)

    Ricarda :)

  10. Hi there,

my husband and I filed the I-485 package in June 2015.

Now my husband had the opportunity to start his own business and works there since the end of July.

Do you know how he can prove his income for an interview with the USCIS??

What kind of statements/documents does he need- if interview happens before next April 15th??

    Thank you so much!!

    Ricarda

  11. Hello!

I got married on the 1st of May and also went to the DMV to get a new drivers license in my married name.

They told me besides the 6 points of identification you need to wait for your EAD (Employment authorisation) and then you can go ahead and get your license.

The lady I talked to also checked up with her supervisor.

I live in NJ. It may be different in another state.

    Good luck

  12. Hi,

I am filling out the G-325A for the Adjustment of Status and I stumbled over this in the example form here on Visajourney.

Applicant: Print your name and Alien Registration Number in the box outlined by heavy border below.

Complete This Box (Family Name) (Given Name) (Middle Name) (Alien Registration Number).

In the example form this paragraph above is located all the way in the end and it is boxed in.

    I have it attached!! :)I-131.pdf

    My question:

Why does they tell you to use your married name all the way in the beginnen when you have to state your (new) family name and all the way at the end of the form they tell you to put the maiden name!!

    WHY?

Is that a mistake in the example form?

I am so confused and am greatful for any helo!

    Thank you,

    Ricarda

  13. My fiance and I received an RFE last week because we forgot to fill out one question on the I 129F.

While reviewing the whole package for any other mistakes we found out that we put in 2 different adresses for my foreign fiancee. One is wrong (page 2) and the other is correct (page 4).

What shall we do now? Shall we correct the whole package and sent it back, not just the one page I got an RFE for ( i forgot to answer in the criminal record section page 5 i think)

How important is it to answer all questions with "none" and "N/A"??

Does it matter if I leave " Spouse 1" blank? Or should I write "N/A"?

A big thank you to everybody who tries to help!
