your case number should have 3 Letters followed by 10 digits. The 3 letters should be where your embassy is.

LBCTT reacted to MontyFlo in Scottish citizen living in Canada, applying for US K-1 visa...help!
Ok so I am a French and I have been living in Canada for the past 2 and a half years (first with a student visa and now with a temporary work permit). I applied for the K1-visa here in Canada as I knew my work permit would still be valid until I would be interviewed (I had my interview last Monday and got it approved by the way!!! So I will be soon with my Fiancée OMGGG!!! ).
So it is not a problem for you to apply here in Canada if you are legally living here even if it is only on a temporary visa (student visa or work permit or whatever BUT NOT as a tourist of course because that does not work).
The only thing you have to make sure is that your visa will still be valid the date of your interview since they will ask for it this day. Also, they will ask for a copy of this visa when the consulate will receive your case and actually they will not send you the packet 3 until they will get this copy because they need it to update your case so what I can recommend here (I do not know if it works because I did not do it in my case) is to join a copy of your visa with the form I-129F (even though it is not require at this step) cause like that maybe they will not ask for it and will directly update your case when they will receive your application from the NVC and so maybe you will be able to avoid an extra 1 to 2 weeks delay as it happened to me...
If you want more details about my experience do not hesitate

After 30+ min on hold, I was able to get in touch with NVC. FINALLY our form has arrived and we got our case number MTL xxxxxxxxx. She told me to call back next week to check on our case status.
To all the NOA 2, hang in there and keep calling them. Looks like NVC is starting to receive a whole bunch of NOA 2 from each service center.

For the relationship evidence we included about 12 photos spanning our relationship, we aimed to choose photos showing us doing things as opposed to selfies if that makes sense, for example, a trip to the zoo, a summer party with his family etc. Then we included scans of my passport with entry/exit stamps, plane ticket booking confirmations for all of our visits to one and another, our work contracts from the camp we worked at from the summer we met and our reviews from a travel website we had used (staying in people's spare rooms whilst travelling, the reviews all referred to us as a couple in a positive way). We did not include any kind of chat log or call history.
Not sure if the fact that I have had three summer J1 visas in the past also helped us, as the US government must have a fair amount of info on me from them.
