Thanks for the good news ! That’s awesome . Did your letter with card was put in your mailbox or it had tracking number so you picked it at the post office ?

The letter I received today, it was actually mailed to my neighbour so not sure when it actually arrived.  No tracking #.  My card was mailed to my condo mailbox.

What time did you get the text and/or e-mail?  Also, CONGRATS! :D

I tried to do the email/text thing but received nothing.  When people starting getting approvals on this thread I started checking uscis daily.

Hi, I got the same update. Did you get anything after this ? Ie card was mailed or case was aporoved . I got „new card is being produced” right after “your name was updated”. But I didn’t get “ your case was approved” . So I’m slightly confused ...

My card was delivered by priority mail yesterday!  :)  I haven't received anything else from them.  Also it looks like the expiry date is 10years after the day the card was produced (ie, Mar 16, 2029)

I think you should be getting yours soon!

Question about the card.  Is it a 10 year starting the date card produced or date at the end of old card?

Great news people are getting approvals!  Resurrected this baby back (on page 58 - I think this is the last one).

  6. I just got the 18 month extension letter yesterday.  It's 2 pages "Notice Type: Receipt Notice", and I don't think my case got transferred.

    13 hours ago, Tar999 said:

Has anyone else received a 'courtesy copy'?  My 18 month extension says that the original has been sent to the legal representative as mentioned on form G 28, but I never filed a G 28.

I don't see courtesy copy on the letter.  Where is it located?

  7. Had my biometrics done yesterday too.  Like everyone else the wait wasn't long and no troubles.

I did get the feeling these guys don't really chat with the clients.  Although in the end after the doing the prints and giving me back the letter and initial form, he told me "it's all done. now you just need to wait for the new renewal card in the mail."

It was nice to say but I know it's not all that easy :)

  8. NPR has been doing some great talks on immigration /daca/dreamers giving people a forum to share their thoughts and experiences.  I was listening to this segment yesterday and thought of this forum since they are interviewing a guy who is the director of research at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and has worked in the USCIS.

    https://www.wnyc.org/story/debate-merit-based-vs-family-unification-immigration-lets-talk-about-class-anna-sale-reciprocal-radicalization

A lot of what he says is worrisome but thankfully there was someone else telling him what is reality.  They talk about the various types of immigration and what immigrants are going though living in usa.  It's an interesting listen.

Looks like VSC finally made a batch deposit!  It looks like they deposit every other Friday.

Since mine was the CSC, I think my check was deposited the week before the holidays and it technically cleared the 2nd, so we may have more VSC filers who are having their checks cleared by Monday or Tuesday.  I hope that batch deposit included those who filed the last week of December, too!

Good theory!  This should be noted/pinned somewhere for all the worriers (like myself).

    3. I also maintained one Canadian credit card. I try to use it at least once per month, even if just for a small purchase, and pay it off in full each month. I do this for two reasons, 1) it's nice to have a completely empty credit card in case of emergencies, and 2) it keeps my Canadian credit history active in the event that we move back. Note that U.S. and Canadian credit histories are not transferrable, so living in the U.S. will appear as a significant gap in your credit history in Canada if you do not keep some form of credit active.

I had the impression that non residents weren’t allowed to keep Canadian credit cards.  There’s a lot of different rumours I’m not sure what is true.  The less I know the better :P  Cutting it out is a means of cutting ties and it’s important to distinguish what your resident status is come taxtime.

As far as TFSA are concerned, they are NOT one of the vehicles that are exempt in the US, meaning you will have to pay capital gains tax every year I believe on your TFSA.  Before I depart, I will be rolling my TFSA brokerage account and make a contribution to my RRSP brokerage account.

I just sold my tfsa this year.  Can’t wait to fill out those crazy forms ;)  (last year was the first time I had to do the American taxes, the forms that needed to be filled for foreign assets was a big surprise.)

    @greentea123

Also to note my tfsa was from Bmo and once I informed them I was a non res they had to stop Investorline services on my account and limiting to sell only.  (This happened about a year after living in the USA.  I was naive..) My tfsa were stock options so there was another choice of converting them to certificates( not sure?) or moving them to a brokerage that can deal with can/us.  Talk to your bank/financial institution about non-resident account holders.

I’m not an accountant or expert but having to deal with those taxes was a nightmare for me.  If you decided to close the tfsa do it before the new year, while you are still canadian lol.

And inform the cra to stop gst cheques. Good luck :)

  13. Thanks for the replies

NikLR:  mostly sending that extra stuff for padding.  The ssn was addressed to both of us, so I thought it might be good for evidence.

gregcrs2:  sending the marriage certificate for padding, I guess sending it doesn’t hurt.

I’ll make a note about the residence for them.  Actually the home was bought after we married but I wasn’t in the states when purchased.  Hope that’s not another complication.

sddude89:  thanks for the tip!  I will definitely look into that for in nj.

We did order the transcripts.  After seeing a bunch of posts about that I figure better be safe than sorry.

    7. Credit Card Bills (a. Visa, b. MasterCard )

    8. a. 2015 Income Tax Returns, b. 2016 Income Tax Returns

    9. a. Health Insurance Confirmation of Elections Details (2017 & 2018), b. Health Insurance Cards, c. Health Insurance Documents (Rebate Rewards Letters and Dental Bill)

    10. Joint Utility Bill, a. Electric Bill

    11. Phone Bill ( Family Plan)

    12. Self-Employment Estimated Quarterly Payments

    13. Trips and Vacations

    14. Invitations

    1. Affidavits

    2. Photos

However we don't have joint communal residence.  The home is owned by my husband (USC), and paying the mortgage (under his name).  I have read about the options on the forum about adding my name to the deed, etc.  I have decided to not add my name mostly to avoid the costs.  So, I'm not sure if we should send the package without info about our residence or should we send them something explaining my husband owns the home we're living in and paying mortgage?

    please advise :)

Hello! After receiving a request for evidence after we sent our I-175 package last year, we are assembling our new package and need to know if we need to resend the I-175 form. We probably don't but I just really need to know to be sure.

Let me know what you think!

    Thank you!

Hi I just started preparing my i-175 package and trying to understand the process.  Can I ask what evidence you included in your original submission?  I'm worried I don't have very strong evidence in regard to mortgage and shared bills because all of them are in my husbands name.

    thanks

    U.S. Citizens

U.S. citizens are not required to file a Form AR-11 and can make a change of address on pending cases via our Online Change of Address page or by calling 1-800-375-5283. For TTY (deaf or hard of hearing) call: 1-800-767-1833. U.S. Citizens who do not have an application or petition pending with USCIS are only legally required to notify USCIS of a change of address if they have previously submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of someone who has become a permanent resident. If you have previously submitted a Form I-864 for someone who immigrated to the U.S., you must complete a Form I-865 within thirty days of the completion of your move.

Thanks for the reply!  Sorry I didn't read your first response carefully.  It's such a bummer the Petitioner *still* needs to mail (ie, posted back in 2010

    )
