@lolita88 my husband (the GC holder) got an email from his work's HR about the upcoming GC expiration (later this week actually) and asking him to bring in more documents - he took in his unrestricted social security card and a printout from when we checked the status on the USCIS website using the receipt number texted to us, which says they're processing our case and we should receive the letter by Nov. 8 (or whatever the exact wording was). They were aware of the backup and said this was enough for now, just bring in the letter too once we receive it. Hope that's helpful! And hope we all receive our letters soon!
Thank you!! I just sent them the screenshot of the status and explained that we are all anxious to receive that letter and hopefully they will have a little bit of patience. It's a new job too, so it's a little bit of added stress.

So, while we're waiting for the NOA letter, is there any way that we can show our employers that we are going through this process? Does the Infopass appointment help in any way? I don't know why they would take so long to send the receipt letter... I'm getting so anxious!

Just got a text from USCIS saying that they received my case with receipt LIN19XXXXXX. A little at ease though my green card is already expired. Good thing our hr at work is so understanding. I was thinking of getting an infopass to have a stamp on my passport but there's no available appointment at my local sc. So, I might just wait for the I-797. Happy waiting everyone!
Can you get an infopass before getting the NOA letter? I just checked and there are no appointments available in GA, but I'll keep checking.

I sent out my application 10/01 to Texas. They received it 10/03 (as per tracking#). Got the text on 10/09. I haven't received my NOA letter yet, but I called USCIS 10/18 and the lady told me that they had sent the letter 10/05. I'm going nuts here waiting for that letter, because I sent the application a couple of weeks before the GC expiration (totally my fault). Why is that letter taking that long, though? Almost 20 days to get here?

I have been told that the letter takes about a month, but it is true that this has been almost a last minute decission..kzielu, then we get married and he has to apply for my visa in 6 months? That's because we need to wait until he is a citizen? Thanks!
BTW, I just realized that I should have posted this in another place in the forum... Sorry!!!

Hey! First thanks for this site, I have found so much information around here!
I came to the States with a J1 visa and my boyfriend and I are planning on getting married. He has the Green Card and he never thought of applying to the citizenship until now. We don't have much time until my visa expires (19th January), so a colleague that knows about this has given us advise about this: 1. My boyfriend applies for citizenship. 2. When he gets the acknowledge letter, get married. 3. He should now apply for my visa extension. 4. Interview for his citizenship. 5. He applies for my as wife. Can anyone tell me if this would be right? I am a little stressed about this situation... :S
