  • Our Story
My husband met at a Holiday Party in 2002. We found out we had mutual friends. As a group we all went dancing after the party. Somehow we got so wrapped in dancing and having fun that we hadn't noticed we were the only ones still at the club, everyone had already left the dance club. We get along so well and have such a great time together. For me, he is the love of my life. I still get butterflies in my tummy when I know I will see him.

We married in 2005 and after being married a couple of years, we have one adopted son. We had a great home, a son, two dogs and from what I hear from people who know my husband, is that he really settled down a lot.

When we first married, my husband had been in the US for a very long time, most of his life. He considers the US his home; but the only issue is, he is not a citizen; nor does he have a green card. We started talking about doing things the right way and take the steps so he could one day be a citizen. At first it was me, more than him, but now it's the biggest thing on his mind and mine. That is because he came back here to Mexico (I am here with him, it's where I spend my weekends; that is why I said "here"). Anyway, we kind of thought the process may go quicker if he were down here and we did everything that this process requires.

That was all good in theory; but how it has really gone; well let's just say,....... It has been anything but good. We came down here to Mexico for the first time, May 3, 2005; thinking it would take 2 to 3 months. Well you can see that it now is November 2014 and we are crawling through the system.

I am sure others may have; or maybe have not, been struggling with being able to communicate with the USCIS and the NVC. After my husband was approved, our attorney's neglected to tell us that it was approved with the USCIS. We were told originally that it would be a long process; so a year had passed and not understanding anything about the process, just depending on our attorney, I discovered in 2013 that the case had been dropped and the documents destroyed because we did not proceed after the approval with the USCIS. I immediately decided to handle it myself and started over in July 2013.

I am by no means an expert; however, I had learned a great deal and want to know what ever I need to so we can finalize my husband's paperwork and be reunited back at our home where we belong.

Sometimes, I become discouraged when I am following up to check the status and neither the USCIS nor NVC have any clue where our case is. They each claimed that they did not have the file any longer and that the other has our case. I basically went to the local office and after two attempts, I got someone who would admit that to me. I provided them with copies of everything I had submitted and everything in files. The next day I was billed for the AOS and completed it and sent it in. Since then (this was August. nothing..... Discouraged again. We want to submit the application to the NVC and keep moving on this case. But still nothing. Then last week, after sending them another email, I was told that they just received my paperwork in November (even though they signed they received it in August) and that it would be at least 60 days as they are backlogged.

I want my husband home and I will do everything I can to get him home by our 10th Anniversary in February. Any help or advice is always welcome!! Glad to have joined up with this website and group!
