  1. My overly detailed N-400 Experience in Nashville, TN during COVID:

My apologies,  it has taken me so long to write about my N400 interview experience. I feel so relieved that everything went smoothly & I'm thrilled to finally be a US citizen.

I hope this helps anyone that is still waiting for their interview get an idea of what to expect in the Nashville office.

I applied for the N-400 based on the 5-year rule of permanent residence.

Dec 22: Interview scheduled (Nashville office)

Jan 27, 2022: interview date & Got Approved after my interview

On the day of my interview,

I entered the Nashville Field Office building about 15 mins before my appointment time.

Everyone that enters has to wear a mask & go through a metal detector before they let you check in for your appt.

The waiting area looked like it was probably meant to hold about 70 people at full capacity but because of Covid it wasn’t nearly as full. We also had to sit with enough space to social distance. I think I only waited about 20 minutes before I was called to start the interview.

    The Interview:

When My number was called I followed the officer back to her office & she seemed friendly & polite from the start. She asked for my appt notice, green card and passport and had me take an oath to tell the truth. We made some small talk and then got down to confirming the demographics/background of my application (like my address,  phone number, etc).

After that she said she was going to go ahead & do the English and civics test portion of the interview. & She was nice, asked if I had studied and I said Yes. She then wiped down the desk and pens & tablet that I was going to use during the interview; she also had plexi glass between us as a precaution for Covid. I do not remember the 6 questions that I was asked, and I got them all correct.

I was asked to read a phrase from the iPad at her desk. Next, I was asked to write a very basic phrase on a sheet of paper.  After that she informed me that I had passed that portion of the interview.

Then we went over the moral character / detailed background part of my application.(All the Yes/No questions) She then asked if I was willing to take the oath, bear arms, perform noncombatant duty, etc - just like the application form asks.

Finally - she informed me that my application was approved, that I would be taking the oath here in her office (not have to wait for a ceremony) and that I would be able to leave today with my certificate of naturalization.

I was asked to stand and raise my right hand to take the oath of citizenship. I affirmed my oath and, after wrapping up a few more things on her computer, she asked me to follow her to another waiting room in the building where I would wait to receive my certificate. I think I waited about 30 mins for my certificate & left shortly after.  And that’s it! The whole process took almost 10 months, and so glad it’s over.

Best of luck to everyone that is still waiting!!

  2. CONGRATULATIONS To everyone that’s already had their interview! I cannot wait to be done with this process. Just wanted to update my case progress on here for those still waiting, your time will come too! I applied under the 5 yr rule, & I recently received a notification that my interview has been scheduled for Jan 27. I’m hoping they have same day Oath ceremonies… 😃

  3. I don't understand why it's taking so long for me to get an interview or hear something from USCIS. I notice that some who are close to my filing date or some even later already went through their interview, and for some already have their green card. I don't understand.

Everytime I call USCIS, they tell me it's within normal processing times but how come some of you guys are moving forward and I'm still stuck? :(

Is there a different number that I need to call?

The time it takes for an interview all depends on where u live- your local office schedules the interviews. I've seen ppl get their interviews in 9 months, others in as little as 3 months. I know waiting to hear from Uscis is so stressful... what you can do is check the Uscis processing times here:

    https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do

Find your local office & then click on the Uscis field office processing dates button.

I believe Chicago, IL is taking anywhere from 7-9 months in scheduling for interviews... I think once you reach the point where it's longer than what it says on their website, call them again. Keep your head up! I hope the processing times chart helps!

  4. This is to share my interview experience last January 29

Our interview was video tape recorded and we have two immigration officer in the room. One asking us questions and the other one observing. It feels like a panel interview. She asked me about my Name, birthday, date of arrival in the u.s., my mother's maiden name, address, zip code she also asked the same thing with my husband.

Here the questions she asked after reading the yes and no question in the i-485 form

    1. Where did you meet your husband

    2. How long have you dated before you decided to get married

    3. Who propose, when?

    4. When is your wedding?

    5. Why no wedding ring? (my husband don't believe in this)

6.Did you know about his past marriages?

    7. Is your marriage before and marrying a girl from the philippines any difference, why?

    8. Does your kids go well together?

    9. Any evidence that this relationship is legit? (kinda annoying question!) - I gave 100 pictures of us together, life insurance, healthe insurance, bank account, my military dependent id.

i was actually worried because my husband got retired last October 2014 but they didnt even ask about his income. I think him being in a military counts a lot.

If other VJ members has a nice experience having a friendly IO who interviewed them, mine is exactly the opposite. They don't even smile and the interview was a bit intense because they can be offending sometimes. Which is understandable because of the marriage frauds. Before she interviewed us, she went to a stokes interview and denied the application of the couple. The guy is black african and in his early 30's and the woman is in her late 50's. The woman get out of the room crying. Stokes interview is a separate interview of a couple which they think a fake marriage.

They just gave me a letter saying that they can't make a decision yet and will mail me if they needed something from me. She told me every IO is different and she is the one who dont make decision right after the interview.

But i am still postive.. keeping my fingers crossed

    hope this helps

Wow.. I bet that was intense.. Stay positive! I hope you hear good news soon!

  5. Guys..My hubby & I had our interview yesterday... Interviewer was polite. We went with a lawyer as well. We got an approval letter on the spot after like 5 mins of being in his office. I think I submitted enough evidence of our marriage that he asked us NOTHING about it!

We've been married since 2011. All he asked were questions out of formality I guess, it seemed like he had made up his mind about approving us already. We were just asked questions like full name, DOB, address, SS#, he asked me my parents' names, if my last entry to the US was last August with AP, &that's it! We are so happy it's done... I still have not received updates on my case. My I-485 still says they've scheduled me for an interview...so hopefully I'll get an update via text or get a nice surprise in the mail soon!! God is great!! :dancing:

  6. Yes we did have all originals and copies. He just didn't ask for anything and joked about my folder and my husband said yeah she is the organizer. I was kind of confused thinking aren't we supposed to bring this?? Hahah

It was so fast my husband says he had his mind made up before seeing us. He paid attention to the pictures and was making comments while seeing them and said he remembered some from when we sent our forms.

Thank you and good luck next week!!! it will be good :)

We finished yesterday printing some copies and fixing everything, did mostly last couple days

How awesome!! I'm glad you had a nice officer interview you ? thanks for sharing your experience!!

Congrats & good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews!!

  7. Congrats to everyone on getting interviews and their EAD/AP cards! My husband and I haven't heard anything at all, no EAD/AP or AOS updates! They haven't answered the inquiry (which said I would hear something by the 1st) and our case for AOS says it will be updated or accepted by tomorrow (Jan. 6th)...hoping to hear something today but I doubt it. Our K1 process was so quick with no problems at all and this one has just been terrible. I feel helpless. My husband wants to feel like he has a normal life and start working and be able to drive!! I feel so bad for him!

Sorry to hear that :( I hope u guys hear something soon...

  8. My poor husband is all upset because his Australian drivers license expires tomorrow and we have to have the I-551 stamp before he can get one in Tennessee. He's, also, freaking out because our I485 still shows "On September 15, 2014, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-485," blah blah. Any tips on if there's something I should do now? We're having to send his EAD back since it's got the wrong bday on it, they did email us about it on Dec 13th.

Sorry to hear that :( My local USCIS office is the Memphis TN one & my I-485 says that too. Glad they emailed you back about his EAD. I think they are having slight delays on the I-485s. I would call & try to speak to a Tier 2 officer or send an erequest if you haven't heard from them in the appropriate time frame they posted on the uscis website for I-485 which I think is 4 months. Best of luck

  9. So just got the hard copy of my interview appointment in the mail.

    It's January 15 at 9:45AM.

I think the letter looks exactly the same for everybody, with the list of items you must bring then and another paper saying if I've ever been arrested I must bring documents related to that.

So they must have mailed it soon after sending you an email, that's great! Did your status change on your I-485 when u check it on the Uscis website?
