  1. Hi Cari !

No Q is stupid, as this whole process is so complex sometimes.

Yep. They can indeed travel, as with a CR1-the AP comes along with it. That is exactly why Graham and I chose it...We have a friend who was waiting on an AP, and sadly his dad fell ill. Eventually he got an emergency AP, but he never got to say goodbye to him. He arrived to tend to his mum a day after his dad was buried. Knowing this, we never went to the K3, and decided for us, this was our best option.

Thankfully, my in-laws (God bless them) are very healthy, but things do happen unexpectedly.

So, yeah-long story short-your boys can go anywhere they want !

  2. Hi Vonnie,

All joint sponsors must show proof of US citizenship. The only people obligated to produce such proof in your household are those joint sponsoring.

    Hi Sanc,

    After some deep breathing

I think the best option is the route I have taken so far, which is to order her a corrected copy. It's on the way, as I ordered it last week-but I am just impatient, as this I-864 has been a true nightmare and I just look forward to the day when I never have to see it again...

In the grande scheme of things, I should take a deep breath and just wait it out. I am not about to be a cowboy and take risks here.

Thanks for helping ground me. : )

  3. Hi All,

I am still here in I-864 purgatory...

My joint sponsor (my sister), has a typo on a copy of her birth certifcate that she obtained about 15 years ago. Why she did not correct it back then is anyone's guess...

The original one was lost in a fire when we were kids...

The actual typo is a misspelling of her first name. She ordered a correct one, but it will take about 2 weeks to get here. She does not travel, and hasn't a passport that we could use in it's place to prove citizenship.

IT IS THE ONLY THING IN MY WAY FROM SENDING OUT MY I-864 PACKAGE...Which, as you know from my prior postings, has been a major thorn in my side

My question is, should I send it out with the typo and see if they have a problem, or should I wait for the corrected one?

  4. Hi All,

When I was in college, I had a wonderful professor who always told me to LOOK VERY CLOSELY at whom is putting out statistics, there is ALWAYS an agenda.

When we hear the word "statistic"-it makes most of us think that it's something official or important, but we rarely look at who is feeding the information to the reader.

Perfect example: An statistic I saw for milk-stating that children who drink milk grow an average of .25 inches more per year than children who don't drink milk.

Who put out this information for the public??? The American Dairy Farmers Association. It was in a little tiny text at the bottom of the left hand side of the page, thrown in with a bunch of other things.

My point here is-when you see a stat, consider the source before taking what you see as gospel. The source always will gain benefit from putting out such information.

As far as the stats for K visa's-NONSENSE...I don't believe that for a second.

Have a good day all !

  5. Thank you for the information. I figured I was at the mercy of NVC, despite the changes within the embassy.

    C'est La Vie.

I already placed a call to both my accountant and my ex. My accountant is meticulous with record keeping, but I am sure is BUSY with it being tax season and all...I spoke to the ex this morning also-he says he has them.

I'd really rather not have to take the 1.5 hour drive and deal with the ex, but needs must...

Maybe the accountant will call and I can run out on my lunch hour and grab them??? That would be cool, but whatever works out !

I am just happy that I don't have to wait longer to get my hands on them from the IRS, and perhaps even by tomorrow, my I-864 hellish nightmare will be part of history ! ((((fingers crossed))))

    Thanks again,

    Rose

  6. Yes, but in the future/

I would have loved to go there, but I have joint custody with my ex, a house and I love my work here...

My profession is looked at a bit differently there. I am viewed as a luxury provider there-rather than as a health provider, as I am here.

It is however, something that we plan on in the future however, when my son is of age and off on his own. As far as work, I am adaptable and find something else to do, which I plan on anyway-as my hands won't stay steady and strong forever.

  7. Hi Karen,

Thank you for answering...I have heard conflicting things regarding that.

That would be great if it were one year required for a CR1...it would save me all of the headaches I have gone through this week alone with gathering what I need to get this over and done with. However, it is my understanding that the jury is still out on whether that is definitive on CR1's, as there is no adjustment of status-it's an automatically an LPR situation.

I have heard a few different things with regard to the I-864 and CR1's. If there is anyone out there who has had a recent experience, please share.

    Thanks !

  8. Hi,

I was planning on sending out my I-864 tomorrow, but read another thread, and it got me thinking...and second guessing myself...

    Here's the situation:

I ordered my tax transcripts (2003 & 2004) from the IRS and got them very quickly.

I did not have a copy of the 2003 return due to a divorce, and the ex taking them along with him. I do have a copy of my 2004's handy...but ordered 2003 and 2004 just to have the same items for presentation. I filed 2005's last month and have a copy of it, as well as my 1099's. (I am a contractor and do not get a W2)

I am submitting the copy of 2005 along with my 1099, however, do I need to send my 1099's for 2003 and 2004 along with the transcripts for 2003 and 2004 ? I figured they were not needed as the transcripts came from the IRS.

The visa we are going for is a CR1. We had to have a joint sponsor, as my income for 2005 just missed the mark. Our joint sponsor has copies of all of her returns and her W2's

So, must I submit them (the 1099's) along with the IRS transcripts???

I have to say, this whole thing is causing me to lose my rational thinking sometimes...Help !!

Thanks for any information in advance !

  9. Hello !

My in-laws are amazing ! I couldn't ask for better. They are kind, considerate, warm and A LOT of fun to be around.

Sadly though, they live in the UK, and we won't get to hang out with them as often as we would like to. If they were here in NY, I can honestly say I'd have them over for dinner at least 3x per week. I truly enjoy their company. We are actually buying a sleeper sofa (for us-they'll get the bedroom) for now, when they come to visit. We have a spare room as well, which was my office. Within the year, we'll will be converting it into a guest bedroom for them for as soon as finances permit. Typically, I hate having house guests, but not in this case-they are always welcome here.

  10. Hi Louise,

Yes, I agree about of the good things that make up for the taxes...Coram wasn't my favorite place either. I was there for about 18 months, and began my migration westward-ended up in Merrick-which is OK-I simply stay here for the school system for my little guy. Like I say, that taxes here are a joke...I could go on for hours about those ridculous taxes, but I see you can relate !

Ahhh ! I am so happy to hear that I can get my husband some branston pickle. It has been a concern of his, as he finds a way to put it on virtually every sandwich he seems to eat. It is actually quite comforting knowing he can get some here...

Whereabout in Port J is the shop ??? I haven't been that way in about 2 years !

It is one of the places that I plan on taking Graham when he gets here. He will love it. It sort of reminds me a little of Banchory...

Now that the warmer weather is upon us, do make some time and head over to Tara's. You will be glad you did ! Nothing beats their $3.00 burger and .25 cent pints...

How long are you in the states?? Was your adjustment difficult? I wonder how it'll be for my lad, and sometimes I have to say, I fret about it sometimes...

    -Rose

  11. Hi,

I am not privy to DL requirements in TX, but I can tell you about the bank situation.

The day after Graham and I were married, I added him onto my checking acct. which was interest bearing.

I had to change it to a non-interest bearing one b/c he didn't have an SS #. I went through Bank of America with no problems at all. Small price to pay, but it looks good at the interview.

It is also helpful if he wires any cash for our immigration fees...

    Good Luck with DORA !!!

  12. Hi Sid,

I wish I could be of more help...but there really is no way to tell how long. Some get touched and within a few days, are appoved. Some get touched and wait a while longer.

It means someone is working on it. I would take that as a good sign-progress is always a good thing.

I am rooting for you, as I know you've been waiting a while. You and I put our cases into Vermont at the same time, back in December.

I am sending you some good energy tonight.

    Here it goes:

    (((((Good Energy))))))

Good Luck to you. I sure hope it goes fast and even faster for you, once you get to NVC.

Keep your head up, and don't lose hope !!!

  13. I simply made a photocopy of mine and sent that one in.

That is the easiest way to do so...but I filled mine in before realizing that there was only one inside the envelope.

Here is how I did it:

(I cut & pasted this for you...hope it works. If not-go to NVC Timesavers and scroll down till you see it)

In addition to the I-864, you must generate and fill out an Authorization for Release of Federal Tax Data. Download the MS Word copy of the Authorization for Release of Federal Tax Data (available by clicking HERE). Under the barcode, type in your case number. At the bottom of the page, replace the entire phrase "XXX City" with the name of the city in which the embassy interview will take place (i.e., the "post" in Department of State parlance). So if the embassy interview is to take place in Caracas, Venezuela, delete "XXX City" and type in "CARACAS" (all caps).

Next, replace the sample barcode in the Authorization with one generated at http://www.idautomation.com/java/linearservlet.html. Under "Barcode symbology," select CODE 39. Select "No" for the "Add check digit," "Add check digit to text," and "Show text below barcode" options. Change the "X dimension" (bar width) to 0.05 and the "Barcode bar height" to 0.5. Click on "Create Barcode." In the resulting window, right click on the generated barcode and left click on Copy. Go to the Word copy of the Authorization, select the original barcode, and hit the Delete key. Then click on Paste under the Edit menu (or hit Ctrl + V on the keyboard). The barcode you generated should be in the exact same place as the original one you deleted

Good Luck...let me know if you have any difficulty, and I will do my best to help.

For me, there hasn't been anything as stressful as this form-given all the hassle I have had with co-sponsors backing out, and a whole myriad of financial issues from last year (which are thankfully ancient history ).

I would be happy to help allieviate some stress.

  14. Hi-

I am Rose from Merrick, LI- originally from Brooklyn. Moved to Coram at 18 yrs old to go to Stonybrook U.

Been here now for almost 20 years and although we get rooked on property taxes-it's a good place to live

My Scottish lad will be joining me shortly( I hope !) and I feel it would be great for him to know some people from back home...

    How do you like Coram?

Nice that you're so close Port Jeff ! I love it there !!! Love to go to Tara's for $3.00 burgers & beer-have you gone yet??

  15. Hi-Thanks guys...

I wrote that Q rather late, and really did not expect many responses until today...

    Here's what happened...

I filled out the tax auth. and realized that she may have needed one-then panic ensued, as I couldn't find the actual form on the USCIS site...

No worries, as I finally located the form in the "shortcuts" page 30 minutes and 50 gray hairs later...

Then I went and created the barcode for it.

I had to open up the form in Word Perfect, which made it a bit of a pain. I had to do a few things to doctor it, but by 3:00AM, it was lookin' really sharp.

I went to bed with a clear head, and impressed with my resourcefulness -LOL Needless to say, I am shattered today from having only 4 hours of sleep. But, I have a lovely document which will give me peace of mind now !!!

Thanks Again Lorelle & Sanc !

  16. Hi,

I received our I-864 today and it scares the hell out of me...My income for 2005 did not make the cut, as I lost a business-but thankfully, my sister will be helping us by co-sponsoring.

I am all set with my 3 years of tax transcripts (2003, and 2004) and a copy of 2005's. My sister is almost all ready to go as well, with her 2003 and 2004-although she e-filed today and now has to wait 2 days to get a copy...

I only saw one "tax release authorization" form in the envelope and I am now under the impression that our co-sponsor needs one too. Of course, I realized this after I filled it out and could not make her a copy.

Am I right in assuming she needs one too??

Any advice of getting another one for her?

Should I have the NVC fax one over to her???

I saw one on the 'Shortcuts" page, but do not know how to change the case number...If I were to do that and generate the bar code, how should it be affixed???

    Please help !!

    Thanks,

    Rose

  17. Hi !

I am an avid planner and have a question regarding the medical appt. in Knightsbridge.

Our case is at NVC just now, and not yet in London.

We are at this stage in the process:

We sent back the DS-3032, I paid the AOS bill and I am waiting for the actual I-864 pacakge to hit me and for the DS-230 bill to get here as well.

My husband lives in Aberdeen Scotland, and has to travel 2x to London. Once for the medical, and once for the interview. If all goes well, I am purely speculating here, but perhaps a June interview is in our future???

How soon should he make the appt in Knightsbridge? Will he be instructed as to when? Or is it at our own discretion?

I may be jumping the gun here, but as I say-planning ahead is something that has worked well for us during the process and I would like to keep the momentum going...

    Thanks !!

  18. Hi,

You should ccall again tomorrow during business hours, and speak with an operator personally. The automated system is great for some things, but in this case-do speak with someone. You will get more answers. Everyone I have spoken with at NVC has been very. very nice and helpful.

    Good Luck.

    -Rose

    Hi Again,

Almost forgot, use your USCIS case number for now.

Ours took about 2 weeks to get there from Vermont. I think they send over in bulk 1x a week.

The NVC case number will be on the DS-3032 upon receipt.

Give a phone for peace of mind.

    -Rose

  19. I had a sales job before & after my son was a born, and after his birth, I worked out of my house...

    BIG MISTAKE !

I just lacked the discipline to get the job done. Too many distractions...personal phone calls, baby crying, doorbell, unexpected visitors. Beside all that, it's hard to take myself seriously in my PJ's with messed up bed-head.

Then...I decided for a policy change... no work until I had my shower and got tarted up...that didn't work either. The phone still rang, the kid still cried, and the ex-mother in law still showed up unannounced...

    I did it for 6 months...until I got sacked for non-productivity ((((shocker))))

I will take an office anytime !
