  1. I had my interview today 4/13, and the civics questions were so easy the interviewer laughed and apologized. I was wondering if they were randomly generated during the interview and apparently yes.  They issued my passing and did my oath right there in the interview room, sent me back to the lobby for 15 min and someone came out and delivered my naturalization certificate.  The whole thing was less than 2 hours from check in to certificate in hand.  Whooo!  Done!

  2. Hi guys.  My interview is scheduled for April 13th.  It was originally for early January but got rescheduled due to covid. Is there a way to know if we’re getting a same day oath ceremony, assuming the interview goes well?  I’m Canadian with no complications to my application or situation so I assume all will go well.  I’ll add myself to the spreadsheet.
I have a small baby and live an hour away from the USCIC center, so I can’t leave her all day and we need to decide if my husband and baby should come hang out in Tukwilla while I interview or not.

  4. Just be aware if you fill a w9 then at the end of the year you will probably pay more year end taxes, unless you have legit deductions.

Can you find a job where you are considered an employee and fill out a W4, that way the company pays most of your taxes and you will get money back.

W9 you will owe the taxes that are not taken out each pay period.

Google employee versus independent contractor and study up on it....

It's only 6 hours a week for 6 months, so I'm not too concerned about that. I'm looking for a real employee type job as well.

I am just curious if W-9 is the right form since I'm not technically a "US person" by the definition on the form.

  5. Hi all.

I'm in the US on a K-1 visa, I got married and applied for AOS. I have my combo EAD/AP card, and I recently got a part time job with a small local business.

At my job, I'm classified as an "independent contractor" and I will be invoicing the company directly for my hours.

Here's my question: they sent me a W-9 tax form to fill out,but I'm not sure if it's the right form. Here are the details:

The W-9 form instructions state" Use Form W-9 only if you are a U.S. person (including a resident alien), to provide your correct TIN to the person requesting it" and it also defines a US person as:

For federal tax purposes, you are considered a U.S. person if you are:

    ● An individual who is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien,
    ● A partnership, corporation, company, or association created or organized in the United States or under the laws of the United States,
    ● An estate (other than a foreign estate), or
    ● A domestic trust (as defined in Regulations section301.7701-7).
    And the instructions also say:
"Foreign person. If you are a foreign person, do not use Form W-9. Instead, use the appropriate Form W-8 (see Publication 515, Withholding of Tax on Nonresident Aliens and Foreign Entities)."
I'm not trying to avoid taxes or anything, I just want to fill out the correct form! Can anyone advise on what I should do?
  6. Hi guys! I did my POE on Monday, I made it! I was driving through with a huge uhaul. I brought my plants, which I first got certified in Canada (it was a pretty ridiculous process!). Between having plants and some non-perishable food, we had to stand in the agriculture line, and then once that got approved, the regular line. The regular line was really really long, so it took forever, but once we got up there, it was quick!

We're getting married tomorrow, then on to AOS!

Good luck to those that are still pending!

  7. LBCTT, for your actual interview, make sure you have both the original and a photocopy of your birth certificate. They also asked me for 2 copies of the DS160 confirmation page.
I paid by credit card when I scheduled my interview, all online.

I picked up my visa this morning! Less than a week between interview and pickup, that was pretty good! Moving in two weeks! I'm trying to get my houseplants certified so I can bring them along. Who knew that even plants need paperwork!

  8. Congrats! Please post some questions they asked you. We submitted our packet 3 last week, and still waiting for packet 4.

    It was pretty simple:

    Where do you live?

    Where does your family live?

    Where does your fiance live?

    Where does his family live?

Where do you work? What do you do?

Where does he work? What does he do?

    How did you meet? (Online)

When did you first meet in person?

    When did you get engaged?

When is your wedding? (I said we'd do the legal part within 90 days but gave the date for the big wedding as well)

His last question was: Do you see each other a lot? (We live about 2.5 hours apart by car so this is both true and perfectly reasonable)

That was it! Some fingerprints and they told me a bunch of stuff, and sent me off approved. They didnt even look at my pile of proof that I brought with me.
