I just wanted to put a reply here to all who may read this post..... My fiance did his interview and my assumptions were incorrect, there were numerous "rasta" "dreads" at the embassy awaiting interviews and the CO did not discriminate or pass judgement based on his looks... (be advised my fiances' hair is always locked, clean, and smelling god plus his beard is well trimmed) and he dressed nice... mind you not all "rasta/dreads" indulge in the practice of smoking.... nonetheless i am happy to say he was approved!!!! my rasta is coming home soon!!!!

Totally confused
( I called just now and spoke to two different individuals who said I should not continue until I have received an appointment letter and that I should email the Kingston embassy...........this is even worse than waiting for noa2..
876-632-7400 press 1 for Jamaica/English. Then it says press 2 for non immigrant press 3 for immigrant
I didn't know which so pressed 3. Got a woman, wish I would've wrote down her name because now I can't remember it. She was very helpful. She said for K1 it doesn't matter if u press 2 or 3. either one will work.
Hi All,
I called today and spoke to someone who seemed helpful. Most times when you call they only ask for your name. The young lady i spoke to today asked for my fiance passport number and said she sees that we registered and paid for the visa fee and to wait until we receive a appointment letter. I asked her about the expiration date issue and she said, this is a front desk office, we do not have access to that, email the embassy email who will send a response, but so far i have done the correct thing by not completing step 5 in the asis website because we need to have an appointment letter. looking at the travel.state.gov website, it states the i129f can be extended if expired by the consular officer. In my situation we have to just wait but at least someone explained in detail to me that in my case we have done all we can do for now.... this is so stressfull!!

I would just go ahead and schedule ur interview. That's what everyone else did. My fiancé has his medical exam Wednesday. I hope they are aware of this new system and accept the printed conformation page. I'm going to call tomorrow.
I will def let u know what happens.
i just logged in again the only appointment dates are this Friday Dec 12 and in Jan 2015, no dec 19 or 26...
ugh im going to call nvc an the embassy tomorrow morning... i will post on my results as well, thanks!

Hi All,
I am in the same boat but haven't set the appointment date because we didn't get the letter yet. I have gone and "registered" and paid but didn't input any date because we have no letter with a date and time.... I sent them an email with the payment info and am hoping they tell me to go to step 5 and choose whatever date suits my needs
i have called that number 876 632 7400 and got someone who was rude the first time and someone who seemed very helpful the second time. I am awaiting for the embassy email to tell me to go ahead and choose a date via email because i don't want to delay anything... but my biggest concern is our I129F approval expires on dec 26? i keep asking via email will/can they extend it because they haven't scheduled an appointment yet, but it just says to register on the asis website...
I wish you all luck and ask you to please what occurs on the interview/medical with these emails and instruction page?!?!!?

NVC received our file 10/27/14. I've emailed them twice and just keep getting an automated response no Packet 3. Should I worry too?
HI LionessDeon,
I would not worry. Your fiance should be getting packet 3 via mail any day. You can start getting the below paperwork before getting packet 3 in the mail. For the police record they say bring packet 3 with you, but i don't think they looked at it when my fiance went.
It just mentions all the appropriate paper work he needs to go get:
Police Record
Non Impediment (If never married)
Vaccination Card
Birth Cert.
They send him the following forms:
copy of approved i129F form
blank medical history form
i134 affidavit of support

Hi All,
Thank you for the responses. I have seen the update to the Kingston Embassy website and see that they schedule the interview. We are missing each other so much, it feels like forever. But we know this is momentary stress.... Thanks again everyone!!!

check consulate info. would appear they schedule and the approx time from recieving from NVC to interview is 60-90days. so i wouldn't worry yet
They schedule the interview. How did u receive packet 3? Usually they will send packet 4 the same way.
No its says approx 60-90days.

Hi VJ Followers,
We have submitted all paperwork. Got NOA2, got packet 3, and filled out DS160. As per the instructions we emailed the US Embassy a copy of the DS160 confirmation page and passport biographic information page. We have not heard anything from the embassy as yet and it has been over 3 weeks. Do we contact the embassy? Do they schedule the interview or do we? The US Embassy webiste is a bit confusing.
Best,
Empress!

No one really cares "What you think". That's the point exactly. You are refusing to see the points made by others. RED flags...are not based upon what you think. They might be based on what the CO thinks, however. I will assure you that many "Upstanding and law abiding citizens" have been turned down for jobs because of their appearance. Of course the job interviewer will never admit to that because it might be discriminatory. They will just not hire the person. Same goes for his interview with the CO. They rarely tell you why you are being denied...they don't have to. So IMHO, have this sweet man of your cut his hair, wear some very presentable clothes and attend the interview as if his life depended on it. Being stubborn and refusing to cut ones hair won't get the two of you anywhere. Good luck.
Thank you for your opinion. However, this is not a job interview. I also assure you my fiance is not the first person with dreadlocks getting a K1 visa. I appreciate you opinion and input.
However, I would like to obtain comments from someone who has dreadlocks and to inquire how the interview process in Jamaica was.

Oh my! Y'all really getting this girl going.
A. Rastafari is not really a religion....yet a way of life...a lifestyle choice to live in non judgmental harmony with others in love and peace. An all natural, one love, one aim, one destiny approach.
B. While Rastarfari's may believe that herb is a natural plant, when used, can bring u closer in mind, body, and spirit to Jah....It doesn't mean every Rastafari uses it.
Now overcoming that stereo type maybe difficult. However, drug tests, police records, and medical Q&A reports can attest to that.
Well said! The proof is in the pudding! Not all Rasta smoke...

Good luck....discrimination is the hardest crime to prove, and trying to sue the government for discrimination makes it 100 times harder.
Again as stated before this post is not in reference to any discrimination lawsuit.
I wouldn't waste my time or money on trying to sue any government agency, as to prove discrimination would be a "he said she said" lawsuit and everyone knows hearsay is highly speculated in the court of law as there is no proof...
I am asking to see if others have made the same inferences as I.

Don't know what you define as "trouble", haha. I had had all the vaccinations years ago. Only one had expired (only valid 10 years or so), so had that done at my own doctor before going to the medical exam (because it was cheaper at my own doctor). The medical examiner checked off on all of them, and didn't have to do any more.
Yes, it is definitely cheaper. I am referring to the part in packet 3 "be sure to go to the embassy doctor before going to the clinic for additional vaccinations." He already has these vaccinations from years ago, but they are only needed if you plan on traveling to another country. so i say "trouble" because will they scrutinize the fact that he got them years ago, instead of now that he is actually planing on leaving the country?
-
Can you get in "trouble" if you had all the required vaccinations prior to the medical exam? Like, years prior?

Trying to make some money by filing a discrination case...........??????????????
no, just trying to find out if anyone has wondered this or has an input such as rasta answering informing that there was no discrimination during an interview or imposed perceptions...

I apologize for assuming you were the other person.
It's okay, but for the reason of assuming, i write this topic... I hope it will help me and others in the same situation

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/517125-dreadlocksappearance-for-interview/?fromsearch=1
My fiancé is Rastarfari. I'll let u know what happens after his interview. We just had a discussion about this and neither him or I feel it's necessary to cut his locks. So now Rastafarians are not allowed the same rights as everyone else??
Thank you for responding that is the same thing i was saying to my fiance. You can't be the first rasta applying for a k1 visa! thank you so much for the response!!! I am so happy to know i am not the only person inquiring about this.... Please keep me posted and i will keep you posted as well
-
It would be hard to tell I guess. It's very unlikely a CO is going to say "I'm not approving you because you are a rastafarian" and there have been people on here who have been so in love they do not see the red flags and how suspicious their relationship looks to an outsider so then when the denial comes they might put it down to discrimination. I'm sure there may have been cases where someones appearance (e.g. dreadlocks to reference the thread created the other day) may have contributed to their denial but it would be hard to quantify.
I don't think his or my appearance should play any factor as opposites attract. his dreads are always well kept and he doesn't "look" like a "low life" or anything he is a hard working man. I just don't want anyone to see him as a rasta and automatiaclly make an assumption about his character as he is an upstanding, law abiding citizen.
How would he present himself for a job interview? Is that a good guideline?
he would present himself in the same way he would at the interview, well dressed and well mannered person.a presentable person.

Didn't you ask this question last week about wondering if your husband should cut his hair for the interview because you fear he will be denied because of assumption? Just wondering why the new profile.
Hi Dwheels76, i am new to visa jopurney and have not posted in reference to this topic prior. Can you let me know where that thread is so i may see what those responses are? Thanks.
