  1. Ok so here is the deal. My fiance passed the interview last week. She will be coming here next week.

How do we get legally married in the state of California? What is involved paperwork wise?

Do I just go to the city hall and get some paperworks to fill out?

Please help. I want to get the paperwork done asap and worry about the rest later.

    Thanks again!

It is very easy to get married in California. Just go to the nearest County Clerk's office and pay $50 for the license. For another $50 they will perform the legal ceremony--there is no waiting period.

To apply for the marriage license both parties must be present and have identification--so you can't really do any of the paperwork ahead of time.

  2. Unfortunately no one can really say when you will get your NOA2.

You can use the timelines on this site to help estimate when you might get your NOA2. By looking at other people's timelines, I was able to estimate when we would receive NOA2, package 3 and 4--and even an interview date. My estimates were usually only 3-5 days off from the actual event.

    Good luck!

  3. This is still confusing me. I was told no ssn until they are authorized to work. But once they have their green card they are technically authorized to work right? So when they get gc I can apply for ssn for them? Is this right?

I think the answers to your questions depend on the ages of your children. I think children need to be 16 years old to work in the U.S.

A "green card" usually means work authorization. If your children are too young to work, they would get a resident alien card.

  4. Please what should we expect packet 3 to contain.Do we need to include police reports and avidavit of support while returning the packet 3 to the embassy or is the police report and affidavit of support required at the interview stage

Each embassy seems to have different guidelines, but usually the affidavit of support isn't needed until the interview.

  5. Has anyone here used a lawyer for k1 visa? Is it better to use an attorney? Is it faster to use a lawyer?

We didn't use a lawyer and we had no problems.

Some people who did use a lawyer have experienced delays because the lawyer did not forward paperwork(such as a request for more evidence) to the client in a timely manner.

Unless you have a complicated case, you are much better off filing your own paperwork.

  6. Hi all. We are just getting started looking into this whole process and I was wondering if credit (ie financial difficulties) make a difference? My hunny might be looking into bankruptcy, but we are afraid that might be a prob. Any insight?

Depends upon which person is declaring bankruptcy. The USC must have sufficient income to sponsor the foreign fiance, or he/she will have to get a co-sponsor.
