  1. Hey everyone,

Just found this thread. My girlfriend and I plan on moving to the USA soon as well. What parts of France are you from or your SO is from? My girlfriend is from Nice in the south. Also how did you guys meet each other? It's crazy that there are so many US-French couples on this board.

    Cheers

    Salut!

My husband is from Basse-Normandie. We met online in a discussion about Daft Punk, where we found out we had lots of other things in common as well. Didn't take long for us to fall for each other. We were long distance for a few years, meeting every few months in either France, the USA, or Canada. After that, I lived with him in France. Now we're back in the states, thankfully done with the K1 visa and AOS. :)

  2. First of all, huge congrats to iPod and zwoodward! You made it!!

Second, my husband and I are having quite a day. He interviewed for one of his dream jobs, and it went so well that they offered him the job on the spot! He then came home and checked the mail. We weren't expecting anything since our I-485 case status hadn't changed, but there it was, the green card!! Only took one week after the interview to arrive. :) So happy!

  3. I will be moving to a new house next month and I'm worried that USCIS won't properly update my address. For people who already have interview dates: did you get electronic notification as well as a paper notice? I want to make sure I don't miss the interview notice after the move!!

Nope, only got a notice in the mail. Online status stayed as "case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" and didn't change until we were approved at our interview yesterday.

  4. Congrats!

You have so much proof! Getting worried if I have an interview I'll be lacking everything. So far we only have joint checking account and phone (which I only got added 2 weeks ago).

Thank you! Just get everything you can under both your names. Also, based on all the interview posts I've read here, photos really help. We had wedding photos and pictures of us on various adventures post-wedding (mini-vacation, weekend trips, us adopting our cat together, etc), all with a description, location, and date on the back of each photo. The guy interviewing us still checked every single picture to confirm when/where it was taken, but he seemed happy that everything was summarized for him on the back.

Congratulations!! I had no doubt you guys would be fine.

    Thanks iPod! :D

  5. Just got back from our interview!

We interviewed in Seattle. The whole thing took about half an hour. The man interviewing us was friendly and very thorough. He asked for our passports and another form of photo ID, then went through every single piece of paper in our packet. As he checked our paperwork, he asked for our full names, dates of birth, place of birth, parents' names, and how we met. He also had us describe all of our visits and how our wedding day went. After that, he collected wedding photos, a wedding invitation, the lease on our place, proof of renters insurance, and our joint bank account statement. At the end, he said "well, you guys look like you have a great relationship. A bonafide marriage. I'm happy to say that you'll be approved for a conditional green card! You can expect to receive it within 30 days."

So overall, it was a very thorough interview, but we came prepared and all is well. Good luck to everyone else still waiting, hang in there! :)

  6. Congrats Heley!

We had our interview today, and he approved us on the spot. He said we should get our green card within 2-4 weeks, but I'm expecting it sooner rather than later. He really wanted to see photos and was happy that the ones we brought were labeled and dated. I was surprised that he didn't ask about a joint bank account or anything--he really stressed that that was more important for the removal of conditions rather than this process. He made some copies of our wedding invitations and I handed over all of our relationship evidence for him to add to the file. Additionally, he said the Chicago lockboxes were created to make it easier on the local offices--contractors at that lockbox compile everything in our file and then send it to the local office to reduce their burden of work. He said removing conditions was a process that was created because people would just get their 10 year green card and then divorce their spouse the next day since they could become a citizen in 5 years without their help. That's awful haha! He said it would be important to include joint assets, bank account, and photo evidence.

Yay, congrats!! And thank you so much for posting this, all of this information is really good to know and makes me feel a lot better about our upcoming interview. Sounds like most interviews for people adjusting from K1s are quick and easy. Phew!

  7. Hi all

I want to know, how long does it takes to get SSN after applying with EAD? I applied on May 5th and was told that they need to do a security check on me and its gonna take up to 4 weeks..? I tried to apply for SSN with I-94 before, but they denied it because it was too close to my i-94 being expired (10 days to expired) I really need my SSN for opening a bank account and to get my license.. it's so stressful to just sit at home and not doing anything... :halloween:

Same thing happened to my husband. It took a week for him to get his SSN. He didn't need a SSN to open a joint bank account with me at Wells Fargo though!

  8. Finally got the notice of approval for the AP and card being produced for the EAD - so ecstatic to begin making travel plans to see family we've been waiting on this for so long.

Now onto the next worry: if we are out of town and the mail notice for interview arrives how long before the notice is mailed and the actual interview to take place. Is it usually scheduled atleast a month out? Sooner is better of course but worried it would come and be scheduled next week and we would be out of town.

Has anyone gotten their interview notice in the updates online ? and how far out from notice were you scheduled ?

Congrats! :) We got our interview letter a month before our interview date.

  9. Thanks everyone!

It does seem like online notifications are all messed up since the update. I recommend bothering your post office to make 100% sure your mail is getting delivered to the correct address. We missed our first biometrics appointment because the notice was returned and then delivered to the wrong place, so we got paranoid about the interview and talked to every post office and carrier we could in order to guarantee that we would receive the interview notice. They're all grumpy with us now, but it's worth it. :)

Also, @francais_usa- yes, please let me know how it goes! Hope it's quick and easy for all of us!

  10. Was this an RFIE or RFE that you received and what day did they receive your response.

I received and RFIE (request for initial evidence) and they received my response on March 31st and I still have not heard a thing on the I-485 ead OR AP yet ;(

RFIE. They received our response exactly 2 weeks later. I-485 case status changed another 2 weeks later, and AP/EAD were approved over a month later. Hang in there!

  11. That's basically me haha. As the wife, I'm way happier about USCIS updates than my husband--he's still extremely content to have me as the sole supporter lol. Oh, the French mentality.

My husband is French too, but he's worked nonstop since he was a teenager. Being unemployed is really bothering him. He keeps saying he can't wait to feel productive and be able to treat me to nice things again. But like Mash said, even if we have a long wait for the green card, things will be better once EAD comes in and he can go back to work. :)

  12. Don't compare your case to that of other people. You will drive yourself insane. I sat here day after day, reading about people's progress (some who sent their applications in WEEKS after me) and made myself unnecessarily upset. It doesn't help anyone :(.

No one knows why USCIS does things the way they do.

Agreed. That's one of the biggest things I've learned throughout this process- we can't predict how USCIS works, so it's no use trying to find patterns or systems. Just try to keep your mind off it. Go spend time with your loved ones. We'll all get there eventually. :)

  13. My local office says the I485 is being processed now with dates from October 17, 2015--that's almost 6 months ago! Does that date refer to the NOA1 date? If so, did they suddenly start processing things a lot faster, since I filed end of february and have an interview in mid May--2ish months as opposed to 6 months...

For my local ASC, it refers to the NOA1 date, and from looking at timelines it appears to be accurate. So not sure why you got an interview now, but oh well. You're lucky!! Congrats! :)

  14. Small update- 30 days passed since our last service request, so we were able to call USCIS to inquire about the two case status changes we had about notices failing to be delivered. They said that since our case is ready to be scheduled for an interview, we shouldn't worry about whatever was trying to be delivered before. So that's a relief, although I still wonder what it was.
