  1. I haven't called yet. The website says 5 months.. figured I would give them 5 months >.<

    Thanks for the good vibes.

You are too nice. I dont want to force you to call but if that is my case, I would have called by now. For my OPT-EAD before (i had to appy two EADs after I graduated), and for both, I always call after 2 months I appled (and you should wait 3 months). Depending on who you talk to, they will try to help you especially if you just express concern and dont sound like you are being demanding. I guess i am not as patient... :)

  2. Went to the interview on Friday, Dec 12th on Long Island City immigration office in NYC.

Scheduled for 1PM. Went in at 12.55pm, and getting called in around 1.45pm. Finish around 2.10

Went in with my wife, and the officer asked me right away, "Are you come with a lawyer", I said "nope". He replied back "Are you that confident", and I replied "Yes"

And then he go on asking me why am I sending A LOT OF paper. I mean, my paper stacked in front of us, i can see it is at least 4 inch deep tall. I said, i am using a 32lb paper, it is a thicker paper than a regular 23lb paper. ANd he replied, "well, it is still too much, WHy are you sending this much?" I said to him, "I got an RFE for 1-864, and I send some more evidences".

Then he looked on the paper, and see that i submitted 12 months bank statement. He said "oh yeah that's why it is a lot"

It makes me nervous. We stood up and sworn.

He told us only to answer his question to whom he asked the question to.

And then he started to ask me some basic information such as my wife date of birth, what is she love doing, her favourite food, etc. My wife sat beside me.

After that he started to ask my wife, where do i work, how many siblings do i have, my parents name, my date of birth.

And he ask me again how do i first met my wife.

He said, "Do you want to submit anything before I submit it?", and I said, "Yes, i have some pictures"

I showed him a stack of pictures, maybe about 50 pictures, and he said "Oh, no, no, i am good"

I was feeling a little bit dissappointed that he didnt look at my pictures, because i spend few hours printed out the pictures.

My wife and I had a long distance relationship for the first 6 months, and we sent each other a love letter/postcards. We kept all of the letters/postcards, and we brought all of them on that day.

I made a love album, and kept my first bus receipt (where I took 12 hours long journey from NYC to virginia to met my wife for the very first time). I brought that album too on that day.

The officer didnt need anything else.

Well, it is better to over prepare than a less prepare.

After that, he said that i will be getting my green card in 30 days. It will be a permanent green card, since I am already married for 5 years.

Congrats, hope you get the gc soon. Thanks for sharing your experience. :) I should start preparing after Christmas.

  3. Yes, I agree, it is horrible, terrible, and I really feet bad about it. I dont know what else to tell you. I also personally message cadams84. I thanks Umka36 for catching it early. And thank you Kim and Jermaine, but you dont have to repeatedly tell me this. I will double check, triple check everything before I ever give an advice again. I am so eager to help and I did this mistake.

Just a thought though, dont bring down people too much especially when they already sincerely apologize and realize their mistake. Dont do this especially to your children, spouse, friends. Yes, I have a Ph.D. and I still commit mistakes, and I do embrace it and learn a lot from it. I never put people down when they are wrong. Though make sure they realize it and teach them to correct it. God bless.

  4. A&S14 you're giving TERRIBLE advice. Please be careful. If you dont know much about the subject and dont even do your own taxes, let someone more knowledgeable answer.

I did apologize. I have been doing my taxes (with double checking from my university) for seven years here in the US (as F-1 non resident alien, then it became resident alien), and I started doing the changes and I checked the married filing separately (somehow I recalled filing as single).

So that's it, I did apologize and I am glad somebody saw it.

  5. You could not be more wrong. Good luck getting those tax returns amended.

OP, marries filing jointly is fine, as is married filing separately. You'll need to do some research and find out which one benefits you more. The instructions for the 1040 forms and IRS Publication 519 have all the information you'll need.

Apologies, my mistake. , thats what I meant- married filing separately (my company checks everything so my taxes have been always corrrect. I did chose that for my company to prepare my tax forms but it is basically like filing as single. But IRS will not go after you if you file as single since there is no difference anyways in the tax as long as you dont have kids yet. Well, you actually save more when you file as single. but better to do it right, you dont wanna mess with IRS.

  6. Wooohooooo great news! ? Our interview is already re-scheduled on January 09, 2015. My husband decided to go to the uscis local office and we are surprised that they let him in even if he didn't have an infopass. The man gave my husband the appointment date quick and easy. :-) sooo relieved here coz I really thought it would take more than a month to re-schedule our interview. I think it helped that my husband went to the uscis local office. ???? Thank you Jean?

    awesome! :)

    Congrats to everyone gettino movement!!

Still no updates on interview scheduling/ interview date. Trying to wait patiently.

Maybe this Friday, it will be mailed. or even earlier... :)

  7. I just received my Green Card this morning :dancing:

I want to thank you all for your helpful stories and support. I wish hard luck for other who are still waiting (F)

congrats! My interview is in a month... I will be happy for everyone here to be able to get the GC soon.

My wife and I were in the same boat. Our online status said that if we did not receive a notice by Nov 28th, to submit a e-request. So I sent that request in, was given a receipt no,, but didn't hear anything further.
I ended up calling USCIS yesterday and was told that my request has been "was assigned to an officer for response" and we may not hear anything for another 6-8 weeks. Sounds crazy sketchy to me..

I am sure it will be earlier than 6-8 weeks. Goodluck!

  8. I had typed his birthday wrong on the paperwork for the EAD but it's fine every where else in his AOS. But it's stamped promently on the actual Employment Card as the wrong Bday. I typed 3/18 for his bday on that form and not 3/16 which is his bday. My slip up typo means we may have to pay for the paperwork to be resubmitted and wait longer.

Hi, Im from Nashville too. Sorry to hear about such mistake. Let me ask you a "dumb" question- how much do you need the EAD right now? Is he working right now and will affect his employment? I think you might not need to reapply if you will get your green card soon anyway (at least hopefully in January) especially if the process of correcting it will also take a long time *(and plus the additional fee). The GC will ovrride the EAD anyways (hope you get your interview sched soon!) so you can weigh in your options. I hope USCIS will not charge you anything for a correction (Im crossing my fingers for you).

  9. right....do you think it'd work if i went to like walmart and have just one passport photo taken and then take that to make 5 copies of it? one phot is 8 bucks and i cant afford getting all 6 or even 4 right now

They might let you save it and just print it at cvs for 20 cents and you can fit 4-6 photos for each normal size. Use this online tool if you have electronic photos: http://www.idphoto4you.com/

  10. I have been stuck in Testing and Interview since November 4th. The website says "If you do not receive your interview notice by December 4, 2014, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice." But I also want to call! Lol. I have been very anxious and ready to get this process over with!

Go do that but also call. I always call USCIS whenever I have opportunity (LOL). I feel that it helps. Most of the times I call I get some movement. :) Give us an update.

  11. Hmmmm not sure why our case is stuck at "ready to schedule interview" since Nov. 6th and still no update. Getting worried :/

Mine is stuck since Nov 10... Sometimes, the background check takes too long (I think we can call FBI to see if they have completed it). or our respective local offices have a long line for interview. In any case hope we get an update soon.

It states in the udate tthough that if I dont get any letter for the interview by De. 14, I have to contact them.

  12. AP and EAD are free if filed with I-485, so even with AP or not, it is still $1070. I assume that your I-130 is already approved (or any other petition)...

For the pictures, answers varies, just to make sure, I put 2 for each applications so a total of 6. But the picture that they used for my EAD/AP combo is the one they took during biometrics. To save for the pics, my husband took my photo and used an online tool to resize it and for $1.00 I got 13 pics! :)
