  1. A little random, but I've had a look on other threads and I can't find a conclusive answer.

I am a US Green Card holder (adjusted from K1 recently). I just applied for and received a new passport from my home country, in my married name.

Am I required to inform USCIS of the change of my passport?

    Thanks :)

I assume your GC is in your married name, so it is given that you should change your name in your passport (and other legal documents) so you dont encounter any problem when you travel.. No need to report to USCIS, they assume that you will update your passport. Only change of address, you have to let them know within 10 days.

  2. Hello everyone! ? The USPS carrier found our mail and delivered it to us this afternoon. Whew! We are so relieved!!! We have finally received my GC. Thank you all so much! ???

So nice to know it turned out well in the end. :) :) :)

Interview went great, simple, easy questions about the application and our relationship....Green Card approved...and status changed to "Card in Production."......looking forward to a break for the next two years.....

Hoping everyone is progressing in their journey! :)

    Congrats!!!

Oh boooo!! I hope this can be remedied quicker than what they told you!

I hope the same, thanks! Hope you get some progress! USCIS, come on!

  3. So I got my greencard last Saturday- NAME is INCORRECT, not my fault. So I called today, have to file I-90 and submit evidence that it is not my fault. I just wanna be done, and I was planning to travel soon so Im not very pleased. USCIS told me it takes 3 months or so but they will expedite it. I asked how long- the answer is it will be a bit faster.... Really now, I want to hear just a week.

  4. Hi, you can actually get from your landlord that you live together in that house. That is what my groupmate (also from NY) did. I think if you get that, you should have enough evidence. You can also add pictures, print it and paste on the legal size paper, put caption (date, who is in the pic), my groupmate also submit the pics with AOS. They like the pics with family and friends. I gave pictures during the interview and the IO took it as evidence. I also gave my insurance stating that my husband is a beneficiary.

They dont like fancy stuffs, they want the evidence as simple as possible because they want to put them all together in a folder.

  5. Hello august filers. My greencard is missing. :-( The carrier mistakingly put the envelope in a wrong mailbox. ??? I just wish USCIS sent it via Express Mail so it would need my signature when USPS delivered it, but it didn't happen that way. ???

I hope you find it, how awful!!! I hope the person who got it send it to you or give it back to USPS. I got mine yesterday, HOWEVER, they changed my surname to my husband's. I do intend to change my name (maybe when we lift conditions) but I wanted to keep my maiden name (this is work related). I probably have to change it since all my documents are still in my maiden name.

  6. Sure does!! Thank you. I had missed that previous post. I just hope our person is just as laid back as yours. Were you guys in the same room with your husband/wife or did they separate you?

Hi G&O7. No, we were together in the interview room. They said some IO just wants to interview the couple separately- depends on their style. So it does not really mean that they are a little bit suspicious of your relationship.

  7. Congrats on finally being over with the process and being approved! What type of questions did they ask? What documents did you bring that day?

I did post it earlier but I would gladly repeat it in more detail:

So we took an oath, the first thing the IO asked was our ID's (state ID/driver's license). you probably can also present your passport.

    The questions were:

    (1) When did you start dating, how did you meet? (she made confirmed how long was the courtship, then when I said yes and when he moved because she was taking notes)

My husband told the IO the whole story from our first meeting, dating, moving together and finally getting married - IO just kept writing and listening to us (and smiling)) :)

    (2) Who are in your wedding?

We only have two friends so we explained that we opted for a simple wedding first and maybe do a church wedding in two years.

    (3) She confirmed the info in the biographic information (g-325a form), name of father, mother, birthday and current work. She then asked for our birth certificates.

    (4) She then asked me all the questions in I-485 (Are you a terrorist? member of communist party?) My husband almost laugh... I think it is part of the procedure to really confirmed the answers in this part of i-485)

    (5) Do you have more evidence of marriage? (We only submitted joint lease and bank account). So we gave her pictures and insurance policy. She took some pictures and the copy of insurance policy.

she then told us that we are approved and that the card will be mailed and explained the procedure for removal of conditions. They try to make it short (as long as there are no red flags) and just do the interview for 10 mins. I was so surprised how fast and simple it was.

We brought a lot of things:

What the IO looked for were (as what I indicated above): IDs, birth certificates (most important), additional evidence of marriage like insurance and pictures. I am surprised she did not ask for the original marriage license.

Other stuff we brought: cards, bills, passports, EAD/AP if you applied for it, marriage license, recent pay stubs (highly recommended to bring these documents just in case your IO looks for them)

Don't forget to bring your appointment letter (the list of documents you should bring is in that letter too. :))

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

  8. Our Adjustment Of Status Experience. ???

I and my husband took our son with us in the interview. Our appointment was yesterday @11 am, we arrived at the place almost 11 o'clock. At the intrance, there was a guard who inspect for ID's before going into the building, because my ID (passport) already expired, my husband had to go in first to confirm our interview appointment, while I was outside, one of the guards came out and told me that I could come in, too. When me and my son came into the building, I could see a large waiting area that was almost empty, we had to undergo a metal detector first and after that the guard told me to proceed to this another person, that was waiting while standing (I had no idea that he was the officer that will interview us) my husband approached him first, he shook our hands and told us that he's the officer who would do the interview then he led us again to this second waiting area (not as large as the first), and told us to wait. There were 1 couple waited and few individuals, there were surveillance cam in the room. After a few minutes, the officer came back and called my name. So glad we didn't wait for sooo long.

As we entered the door, he guided us in one of the small rooms (lots of small rooms inside). When we get into the officer's office, he asked us to raise our right hands, and swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth (my husband said "yes" and I said "I do") then we sat down. Because our son was with us, the officer told our son that the crayon and the coloring book in the table was for him. The officer was so nice and you would not feel nervous which really helped me feel comfortable talking. Then the question and answer began. First he asked for our ID, and took the copy that we made, then asked if I applied for EAD (which I wasn't, so I said no). The questions he asked were: how, when and where did me and my husband meet, why and how did we decide to get married, who contacted first, If did go to college, if so, what school, what was our new address (then he acknowledged about the first appointment interview that was sent to our previous address and he made sure that our new address is the address that they have on the file), then he asked for our new lease agreement. He also asked me questions that were in the i-485 forms. He also asked my husband few things like: about his job, about what school did he go and what degree. So we answered everything truthfully. :-) It felt like it was just a normal conversation coz when we laugh the officer laugh, too. LOL. By the way, he wrote our answers in a piece of paper and attached it to the folder with the rest of the informations, so be sure to answer everything truthfully. It seemed like he has been reviewing our application coz when we answered his questions he would tell he saw it in our file. Like when my husband mentioned about his previous job which was almost 5 yrs ago, the officer said "yeah, I saw it in the file.

Then all of a sudden he told us that what will I be getting is a 10yr greencard since me and my husband are married for over 2 years and that we can apply citizenship after 3 yrs. So when he said that, I was soo happy coz that means he approves our application. :-) :-) :-) HURRAY!!! When everything was done, he told us that we will received the greencard 10-30 days then told us that's it, he even walked us and open the door for us. Thankful that the IO was so nice.

I am soo happy that everything went well. The interview was such an amazing experience, though there were a few bumps in the road before I reached to this point, it was all worth it. Huge thank you for this website and to its members coz you guys are a part of our visa journey and your posts and comments were such a huge help. I couldn't believed that I have done this successfully without hiring a lawyer and that is because of this website. My advice is to be yourself and answer all the questions truthfully, and just show it to the IO that you're not nervous. :-) :-) :-)

Thank you so much again everyone. MAY Yah bless you all. :-) :-) :-)

Congrats! YEs, if you are married for 2 years, if approved, you receive an automatic 10yr-GC. :) So you dont need to d the removal of conditions. Hope they send the GC soon!

  9. Yikes, that's quite a delay! Our office is about as bad. I think it's going to take roughly a year for this process to finalize. :(

    Congratulations!!

Thanks. Hope that they will expedite the process soon!!! The Memphis office seems not to be busy. Even the biometrics section, saw just 10 people there. And in the interview waiting area, probably 15-20 people (and well, some are family of 4, some with their lawyers) so less than 7 batches. At this point it probably defends on how busy your local USCIS is.

  10. Done with interview today!!!

    Pretty straight forward.

The IO was really nice to us. Here is the summary of what happened: (1) She asked for our state ID then asked us how we started dating and my husband told her our story until we get married (2) She verified the info in our applications - name, name of parents and birthdays and ask for our birth certificates. (3) she asked for additional evidence of our marriage- gave her my insurance indicating that he is my beneficiary and gave her pics, she chose the pics. (4) She said she approved us and explain the removal of condition.

I will still be a bit nervous until I have the GC on hand.

To all those who are waiting, I hope you get an update/progress soon! Thanks for all the support and help.

  11. When I had my medical in the philippines, i opted to have my vaccine in the US.

yesterday me and hubby went to his family doctor for a general check up. Doctor gave me flu shots, tetanus and dpt. arent those the shots i needed for my aos since i havent gotten my vaccines in the philippines. The thing is the doctor has no idea what to do with my vaccine chart the one given by st luke.... What forms do i need to make known that i now have my vaccines done here in the US?

What forms do i need to fill out for my adjustment?

My k1 expires february 25, 2015.. Thats why i need to accomplish everythjng this month.

Thanks to everyone who will answer my questions... :)

The civil surgeon will know exactly what you will need. Download form I-693, page 5 is where the vaccination record section (http://www.uscis.gov/i-693). For me, I have my vaccination records from Philippines and US for Hepa A, Hepa B, Tetanus, MMR, Influenza . Then my doctor also indicated that I had Varicella (chicken fox) therefore i dont need that vaccine. The civil surgeon also indicated on I-693 that DT/DTP/DTap, Hib, Pneumococcal, Rotavirus and Meningococcal are not age appropriate and so I dont need them. The civil surgeon gave me IPV shot (pollio vaccine), I had it but no records so she just gave me a shot again.

Whatever you miss, the civil surgeon will give you the shot. But if you have insurance it is probably better/cheaper to get it from your doctor. The USCIS has the list of civil surgeons in your area (https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV).

  12. Getting nervous for THE interview in 9 days... Do I need notarized copies of rent? I only have photocopies.

Got the original marriage certificate, birth certificates; going to bring ID's, passports, new appointment letter for work, and current pay stubs for me and hubby.

Also the photocopy of the whole AOS package and pictures (I did not submit any).

    Did I forget anything?

  13. We had our interview yesterday and we were approved!! We had our lawyer go with us and he told us that some people like to seperate the couple does not mean that they doubt our relationship, it just depends on the person who is going to do the interview and how he/she wants to run it. How I read online that the separate because they doubt something it kind of calmed me down his words but it was still in the back of my mind. Interview was for 8:30 in RI and we got there 8:20. I didnt even get to sit in the waiting room that they already called our names. I (US citizen) was called in first as she wanted to interview me first. Right off the back I thought oh great they doubt us. She steped out of the room and our laywer said that he knows her and that she always seperates everyone not to worry. The interview was SUPER EASY! Just reviewed what was writen in the packet! Then all she asked was how we meet. We did we start dating & who lives in the house that we live in. (We still live with my parents as we are only 21 :P ) She called my husband in and asked him the same questions to see if the packet was right. Our house address is 593 and my husband said 395 because he was nervous. She laughed and said you mean 593? We all laughed and said yes hes nervous and she said it was fine. LOL Then she asked the same questions she asked me to my husband to see if they match the anwsers. She wrote everything down. She asked also those crazy questions where we all should say no ahaha. like are you a rapest, are you a terrorist, do you want to distroy the US government. LOL We were talking about the hollidays and the weather more than about our life. SUPER easy. She was super nice! At the end she even said that she had no doubt about this relationship because I did send in a big packet with about 20 pictures and under each picture it had a description about our relationship story. If you didnt submit anything like that she does want pictures to give to her, especially wedding pictures! OH, she also asked for more evidencie that we did not submit. I gave her the joint bank account papers and that was it as we are young and living with our parents we have nothing in our name yet and she didnt even say anything about that. TIP do NOT anwser anything that she did not ask for. keep it sweat and simple. Im glad this is over FINALLY! she said we should be getting the green card within 4 weeks. YAAYY
