  1. I had a similar agency contacting me once every couple of weeks awhile ago. Though I believe they were a real collection agency, I have never had any outstanding debts. Eventually I called and told them they must be mistaken and that I needed to be removed from their list... only information I provided was when I took over the phone number and I never heard from them again. Might be worth calling back... just don't provide very much information.

  2. Hi there,

My fiance and I started the K-1 process in August and I can happily say that I have my visa in hand and am POEing on Friday. I'm from Kingston and moving to Cincinnati so we have some common ground. Feel free to PM me on here if you get overwhelmed with any specifics and I can try to let you know what we did!

We received no RFE's and have had a fairly stress free experience thus far.

Based on the number of positive experiences with K1s on this forum, and now my own success... I can assure you it is fully doable without the help of a lawyer if your case is relatively clean cut.

    Best of luck!

    - Jonathan

  3. I was in the same position with OSAP and the majority of a car loan and was approved (visa in hand) in January. I don't believe I ever had to mention it on any form or otherwise.

Check with your lien holder on the car to see if they will allow you to import it if you plan on taking it with you. I had to buy my loan out from Honda... which was a less than enjoyable thing to find out. My understanding is that some motor companies will still provide a letter giving you permission to take the vehicle but Honda will not.

I also understand that the majority of banks will want you to pay out any personal loans before you move, as I found out when researching my options for buying out my vehicle.

    Good luck!

  4. Hello,

I'm not sure if you found your answer elsewhere already, but:

My packet 3 documents (sent November 18th, 2014) requested were as follows and were sent to consulate by email. I received Packet 4 email a couple of days later.

    - DS 160 confirmation page

    - Completed, signed and dated Packet 3 Checklist (scanned)

    - Applicant passport biographic page (Scanned)

    Hope this helps.

I believe the court documents are only required if relevant (I'm assuming due to convictions/marriage/divorce/etc).

I think you are on the right track with the domicile piece - from my research it would be looking to see that the petitioner is a permanent US resident/has an address... I've read some conflicting information but it's possible that this isn't explicitly required at the K1 interview. If you are able to have bills/mortgage/rental documents with the petitioners name and address with you on stand by it would seem its always better to be over prepared.

You will have to complete the I-134 Affidavit of Support and provide the required supporting documents (listed in the instructions of the form but mainly: letter from bank officer, letter from employer(s) and W2/tax transcripts). You bring this to the interview with you though, don't submit it before then.

  5. Agreed with above post.

I was also concerned with opposing directions but it seemed like the safe bet to follow any correspondence directly sent by the consulate.

I completed the DS-160, and emailed the requested documents (DS-160 confirmation page, passport scan, and signed/dated checklist) to the consulate and received my Packet 4 letter a couple days later via email.

Note: All of this being rather recent, I received my packet 3 email in November.

    Good luck!

  6. Hi MMorgan,

I would take our case with a grain of salt as I really think the timing varies (someone may cancel versus Montreal actually adding new appointments).

    However;

We were sent our Packet 4 letter (email) on November 20th, 2014 and I immediately started refreshing the CSC website as constantly as possible while at home and at work (I also had my fiance and her mother checking when possible) and the first time we saw available appointments was on December 5th, 2014. We were able to choose from January 12th-15th for dates at that time.

It seems reasonable from viewing similar timelines to expect to book your interview about a month+ in advance... but again, take that with a grain of salt as folks cancel and reschedule which frees up existing appointments for others.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: I would also recommend sending in your Packets and getting yourself to the scheduling stage. You don't have to book until you're ready as far as I know, but you may end up at that stage longer than you'd like. Waiting for interview slots to open has been the most frustrating stage for us thus far!
