  1. Thank you all SO much for your feedback and advice.

I knew he had registered but I just couldn't remember how or where.  It turns out he registered with the DMV, but since he didn't have a social security number yet when he first got here, it couldn't be found online.  I called selective service, they found his registration right away, and added his SSN to the system.  Whew!

    Thanks again!

  2. Hi guys,

My husband (who is now 27 years old) was first granted his permanent residency CR-1 visa in June 2015 when he was 24 years old.  I have a strong memory of one of the forms he filled out saying that since he was a male 18-26 years old, signing that form registered him for the Selective Service.  So, because of that, we didn't do anything else to register him for the Selective Service.

Now we are very excitedly about to apply for his citizenship next week, and are required to provide proof that he registered for the Selective Service.  I already went to the Selective Service website and searched, and his name didn't come up.

Any advice on this?  I know we can't apply for his citizenship without this info, and I want to make it clear that (if he is in fact not registered, though I truly believe he is), we did not intentionally not register him.

    Thanks for your help!

  3. I apologize if this has already been answered (this is a long thread!)

My Canadian husband and I are at the NVC stage of his CR1 processing. As a canadian, he has the luxury of visiting the US during this process without any problems.

I think we have about four months left and we're getting anxious. Plus, he doesn't happen to like his job in Canada right now.

    Here's my question:

What are the risks of him coming to "visit" during the last few months? As the process continues, even if we have email processing, does he still need to actively be in Canada so he can receive mail? Will anything get sent to him?

What other issues might come up if he isn't in Canada (regardless of if he's in the US or just traveling the world) during the time of the processing?

Thanks so much for your help!!!

  4. I apologize if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it...

What should I do if my husband (living in Canada) has a change of address after the NOA2 has been received (so the file is now at the NVC)? The attorney I consulted said not to worry about it, because the paperwork always gets sent to me in the US, not to him in Canada, but I've seen conflicting information on here. I don't want to miss our packet because it was sent to his old address...

    Thanks for your help!

  5. I'm readying my I864ez Affidavit of Support and I have two questions-

    1) the guidelines state that for my family of two, I have to make $24,578 (125% of $19,662).

This year, I'll make about $25,200 gross pay. The last two years, I only made about $22,000. Is it a problem that I made less than the minimum amount for the two previous years, even if I made enough this year?

    2) I know this is a stupid question, but it's gross pay right (before taxes)? If it's net, then I definitely have to get a co-sponsor :(

    Thanks for your help!

(Just wished I had been sent to a different processing center, because Nebraska is taking forever!!!)
