Thank you so much!
I'm in Kiev and we're about to go to the interview. Your post was helpful. Knowing we can bring the phone is very, very helpful.

Bank transfer? Western Union? Meest money transfer?
I tried getting an ATM card for my fiance from my bank, but they will only issue if she applies in person.
I would advise against Moneygram - although they eventually refunded my money they refused to perform the transfer because they suspected fraud. I went through all kinds of questions to send the money. Western Union worked fine. I think I tried paypal, but it's blocked in Ukraine.

Hello,
We have our interview coming up next week and am in the process of triple checking some items on our list. My fiancé has an interview in Kiev, but resides in Crimea. The embassy has been emphatic Crimea is Ukraine, and that documentation should come from Ukrainian government offices. This is somewhat problematic because Ukrainian offices have all closed in Crimea. For the police report she found a service that will obtain a police report. I don't understand Russian, but she's confident the service will work. Is anyone who is Russian speaking and has been through the process familiar with this service?

Also, would she be able to obtain a police report in Kiev? Our interview is on Tuesday, she plans to arrive the previous Sunday. On Monday she has the medical scheduled. If the above documentation isn't sufficient, does anyone know if she can go somewhere in Kiev to get a police report on the same day of the request? If not, can she phone in the request or submit a request online? Or maybe she can have a friend submit the request - or must she make the request?
If I'm really, really screwed with the above is it likely the embassy will still interview us (I am flying to support her) and simply hold the file until a police report is obtained - or is the application rejected? Just kinda paranoid
Thank You,

My fiancé and I have set a date for our K1 interview right before the new year, 12/30 (Tuesday). I plan on flying in to support her through the interview. She lives a great deal away from Kyiv, so she'll need to plan travel to the embassy as well. That said, we haven't yet scheduled the medical exam and expect to do that ASAP (the office is closed). Ideally we'd like to do that on 12/29. I was wondering if anyone had problem scheduling medical exams - is it difficult to schedule an exam on a preferred date? Or is there general availability on most days.
Thank You,

Hello,
On the DS-160 form itself is a mandatory field labeled DS-160 Confirmation Number. Is this the Application ID that is given before you begin entering details on the form? I've included a couple of graphics indicating what I think it is and am hoping someone can confirm. I did do some searching without success...
Thanks

It's such a small world - I'm also from Chicago and going through the K1 process and my fiancé is from Sevastopol. It's been several months and I'm hoping you guys got things worked out. I've felt the very same things you've mentioned in the thread.
Instead of starting a new thread I figured I'd piggy back on this one. We heard from the US Embassy via email that they received our paperwork and are ready to proceed. The first step involves making the visa payment. From what I read, this involves payment in hryvnia (Ukrainian) currency at a Ukrainian bank called Raiffeisen Bank Aval. From what I understand, the branches all throughout Crimea have closed. Does the state department expect us to travel to Kiev (36 hour round trip) or a neighboring city in the hot zone to simply make payment for the visa or are they making other accommodations? I emailed back to the embassy asking this question and have yet to hear anything. It really, really, would suck to have to take a roundtrip flight from the states just to pay the stupid visa fee - or have my fiancé take the train through a war zone for 36 hours to do the same. We don't have any friends in Kiev either who can help
Any advice?

When my expedite got denied I called the ombudsman.
Did it end up getting approved after your conversation? How did you reach the ombudsman?

I am in a similiar situation and had my congressman (senator) request an expedite with information I assembled. She resides in Crimea. Unfortunately the expedite request was denied. Has anyone had success getting an expedite request approved in ukraine did to the ongoing conflict?

First, thanks to everyone on the forums who have posted. I'm new and the processes and stories outlined have been very helpful and encouraging.
A little background. A bit over a year ago while traveling I met a woman from Sevastopol, Ukraine (Crimea). We've kept in touch and want to take things to the next level, so I'm filling out the I-129F. A couple of questions.
1. With the ongoing dispute, should I indicate her country of residence as Ukraine, or Russia. I suspect Ukraine because the US does not recognize Crimea as Russia. Further, is there any reason to believe the situation in Crimea will slow things down or create problems?
2. Part 2 of the application appears to allow us to select a city town and country for where a Visa will be applied through. I assume this ultimately will determine where the interview will take place. I plan on being at the interview with her to support her through the process. Is this section only really applicable for the interview? If so, can we indicate any US embassy or consulate? Since we're living apart I wonder if it's reasonable to choose somewhere and fit in a vacation together, to help take away some of the stress. If we'd have to return to the center though to pickup the visa, etc. than we'll probably keep it simple. In any case, given the situation in Ukraine we'd likely have to travel anyway to either Kiev or Moscow (preferably Moscow).
3. Presently she has two passports, Ukraine and Russia. Is it okay to write both nationalities down, indicating dual citizenship?
4. County or Birth - since she was born in Ukraine should I indicate USSR? I've also heard FSR used.
5. Is it necessary to include her name written in her native alphabet if I've included the roman version? I indicated it the best I could, but the same question is asked for address. If this field is compulsory, is address in native alphabet also mandatory?
Thank You!
Police Report & Crimea Questions
in US Embassy and Consulate Discussion
Posted
Just wanted to follow up in case someone had a similar question. We had our interview and the document given to us by the above agency was approved by the US embassy. So, if you need a police report the documentations they provide are sufficient. They can provide the document in one working day 310 hryvnia (around $20 use).
