  1. Hi all! Hope you're all doing well. I've been in the states for about 2 months now, came in on the K1 and we were married 3 weeks ago! I have a question regarding at what point you become a resident of the state you moved to? Tried searching but couldn't find the exact answer, is it the day after the wedding and the K1 requirements are fulfilled? Or is it when I get my green card?

I'm wondering because I'm looking to get my Massachusetts driving license, and the DMV states:

Residents of Massachusetts (MA) are required to have a valid MA license to legally operate a vehicle in MA. Out-of-state or foreign-licensed drivers MUST obtain a MA driver's license upon becoming a MA resident.

So, the question stands whether or not I am resident in this context, if so I cannot legally drive on my license which I have been doing since before the wedding (I was added to my wife's insurance).

If anyone has any insight, it is much appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Paul

  2. I think you will likely be approved. Hope so.

So out of curiosity, I am wondering about everybody else. If you were in the same situation, would you be that honest?

I think I am very honest. I just went back in a convenience store when I realized the clueless girl gave me back an extra dollar in change. We found a smart phone in Target and went to a big effort to find the owner. I report tips to the IRS when a customer gives my husband a $100 bill in addition to paying the invoice for working on their home network. And so on many, many times.

But when it came to this, I would never, ever admit to drug use or anti-depressant use at Knightsbridge clinic unless it was on my police certificate.

I would not be (and was not!) that honest. If I found someone's wallet/phone I would make the effort to return it, because I know what it's like to lose something. But telling the doctor this doesn't benefit anyone. The fact that you've smoked weed once in your life shouldn't have any impact on your future prospects/ immigration/ marriage/ happiness. Unfortunately, I don't know if they see it that way, so I wouldn't even take the risk by telling them.

    Good luck, Tom!

  3. New title and more money doesn't matter since she qualifies on what you already have. More money won't get you more approved. If it was a totally new employer, then of course worth reporting.

Okay, great! I assumed so. Cheers, Nich-Nick!

Congrats on the promotion to your fiancee!! BTW, we're leaving for our honeymoon the same day you are. We're going to the Pacific though... Hawaii!!

Oh awesome haha! We were looking at Hawaii too, but it's an awfully long way from Boston! I bet you can't wait! :clock:

  4. My interview is August 6th and I've booked my flight for August 21st. It's close but they're currently telling people they'll get it within 2 weeks, and hey you've got to risk it for the biscuit. The change fee is very reasonable with the airline I'm flying with, so it's not problem if I have to. Only you know how desperate you are to get out there and your financial situation.

  5. Quick question.

My fiance filled in the I-134 in May when we were last together. And got a letter from her employer stating her title and salary. She has just received a promotion (change of both title and salary), should we fill out the form again and get a new letter from her employer? Not sure if it's necessary, her previous salary satisfied the legal requirements so it makes no difference really. If anyone has any insight, it is much appreciated.

  6. Just wanted to post this here to make sure that anyone that this affects knows about it!

A 24 hour tube strike is planned for August 5th at 21:30. It says there will be talks to try avoid the strike, so it may get cancelled. If your interview or medical is on August 6th, then you may want to look into other travel or accommodation arrangements to ensure you arrive in time. I suggest if you will need to travel by taxi or bus that you add plenty of extra time as it will be chaotic.

My interview is that day, so I have a hotel nearby to the embassy booked for the night before to ensure I get there! Hopefully it doesn't affect the embassy's functioning, I should think they can prepare accordingly.

    Good luck!

  8. We've managed to get the LND number now too. Laborious haha, but bearing in mind the amount of stuff that must go through the NVC, I can understand that it's hard to get through.

Glad it's sorted! Most I had to call them was 70 times to get through...haha! You can ring London and get your medical booked now.

I actually called NVC today (39 tries!) as I was getting impatient with waiting for my interview letter. It's set for the 6th of August!

    The end is in sight...

  9. Paul-- what date does your case creation date say?

On the 23rd of June it just said Case Status Updated: 23-Jun-2015

It now says, Case Creation Date: 16-Jun-2015

    Status Updated Date: 26-Jun-2015

So maybe they added the creation date on the 26th, which also triggered it to say updated? Though my medical was on the 22nd, the status update on the 26th could also be them receiving the results? No idea when the creation date was added though as I wasn't checking it that week once I got Ready status.

  10. dumb question: My CEAC status only has a status updated date and no case created date. Is that normal? I've done some searching and it seems in the past there was always a created date.

I just checked my original screenshot of my Ready status on CEAC and it was like yours with just a status updated date, now it has a case creation date too but I don't know when that was added, it might not have been until after my medical. I wouldn't worry about it though unless it doesn't appear by a few days after your medical.

My medical was the 8th June.

I got my Fiance to call up the USCIS place and they told her my interview is set for the 17th July, but I have yet to receive my letter!

I have sent off a form in the hopes they can tell me where it is or send a new interview letter :P

Ah right okay that's good news. I was thinking you hadn't yet been assigned a date and that seemed like quite the wait. I guess your letter is lost somewhere? I've seen some others say the same, but they only found out about their interview date a week or a few days before haha.

Hoping for my letter next week!

  11. Update from the embassy website:

    Updated 25 June 2015

London has begun printing nonimmigrant and immigrant visas. We are working as quickly as possible to clear the backlog of pending visa cases and hand your passport to the courier company for delivery. The approved courier will send a tracking message once it receives your passport. You should wait for that message. During this time, we cannot provide status updates by email or phone.

If you have a nonimmigrant visa interview appointment scheduled for June 26 onwards, you should attend but be aware that your application may take longer to process than the advertised 5- 7 workdays. Immigrant visa applicants should also attend their interview but should allow 10 - 15 workdays for their application to be processed.

  12. CR1 approved today! Arrived at around 12.10 and was fourth in the line and spoke to some very nice people.

We were lit in at 12.30 and people starting getting called up at 1.00pm. Went to the first window and handed my documents which were all fine. He then asked for another passport photo which I had two of but were the same

As the one he had. He told me I needed one from the last 6 months so I had to leave the embassy and run round the corner to Goulds pharmacy to get one as I didn't have the change for the booth in the embassy.

Got back with my photo and went to the same window. Was held back in the line a little but all was well. Went to sit back down and was called to another window the lady was a friendly middle aged American women who asked me:

-where did me and my wife meet?

-how did we stay in touch? (To which I replied she lived in UK with me)

    -who was my joint sponsor.

Then that was it I was approved and she mentioned the hold up visa printing.

Congratulations! Just wondering, do you look any different from your older passport photos? I look literally identical from the ones I have which were taken 8 months ago, I wonder if they will want an up to date one.

  13. Kas, even though he had listed his work address as his mailing address still received his interview letter at his old flat (that he no longer lived in).

So he just found out his interview date by contacting the embassy? I guess it's not the end of the world if it does go to the wrong place, if it hasn't turned up in a few weeks I can just contact them. I was meant to mention it to NVC when I was getting my case number but totally forgot...

Neil had moved so we just went them an email on the contact us form and said to please update his address to xx and they did and replied back and said they changed it. And we got his interview letter at the new address.

Oh okay! Maybe I'll just do that then, to be safe!

    Thanks guys!

  14. A little question. My address has changed in the UK since I sent off the I-129F. I've just had my medical and submitted my DS-160 which has my new address on it. I'm assuming the London embassy will send my interview letter to my new address. But I'm questioning whether I should contact them to clarify my current address in case the letter gets sent to the address on the original application. Anyone know if this is necessary? I do assume they would use the address from the most recent form, but it seems like assumptions about the visa process are often wrong...
