  1. Just got a letter from Homeland Security yesterday about the approval of my petition and thankfully no interview needed. However, I didn't see any update on my online account which doesn't bother me so long as I have the approval notice and just waiting for my card. Now, I have to work on my citizenship next year and be done with it.

Just hang in there y'all. Hopefully they'll do it faster this time.

  2. Alright y'all I got an update from my case today too. It says the same with y'alls. "My case was received by my local office" At least we're having progress.

On the other hand, a friend of mine has an expired 2-yr greencard and is even enrolled in a college somewhere in their place and her husband called USCIS yesterday and asked about applying for citizenship. Guess what, the agent said YES she can apply even if she didn't apply for ROC. And this made me think, why in the world are we doing all this waiting and what not and it turned out we can just wait for at least 3yrs and apply for citizenship, not unless the agent doesn't know what she's talking about. So, if that works for her, might as well share the news. ;) Anyway, I will keep you posted with her citizenship journey. But for now, all of us who went thru the proper channel will wait and see when they decide to update our status.

    Cheers everyone!

  3. This is just so sad. I am a filipina and I believe my husband is just so lucky for he needs not to marry my family too. My siblings and Mom have their own jobs and we have lived our lives even before knowing my man.

Most of the time, family members of these Filipina really thought that Americans are rich and it's their way to better their lives. If I were you, I will definitely feel the same knowing that you're now married and your family should be the priority this time. For sure, the mom is expecting that her daughter won't hesitate to send her money coz she's already working.

As what others say, it's great to talk about this issue and determine your priorities too. And now that you're married, her money is yours and yours is hers too.

  4. Does my fiance need to send me money to prove that he can support me? Thanks for your help!

Dumbest question I've ever read. Supporting you is not just for a day or two my dear, affidavit of support means forever not unless you got divorced after having your greencard.

There's nothing in the guidelines that state - one has to send money to support them. Not unless it's the literal support for you and your family too which has been known for so long that once you marry a Filipina, the husband has to marry the family too. it's so embarrasing!

  5. It is proof how useless the CFO seminar is. We have at least two Filipinas in this thread who are clueless about what to do and are asking people who have never been to such a seminar for advice.

The Filipinas should be the experts and should be the ones giving advice because they are the only ones who have been to a seminar. If we believe in the validity of the seminar requirement.

The people that have the mighty intellect required to use google don't need the seminar in the first place, and the people who don't have that astonishing degree of intellect are not going to benefit anyway because they are just sitting there smiling and kissing bureaucratic butt in order to get that precious sticker. If you tell them they have to sit under a cow while it is urinating on them, they'll smile and say thank you for the same reason.

In my point of view, the CFO seminar is very helpful. I believe it all depends on those people who attended if they really understood what the seminar was all about. even an elementary graduate can understand coz the facilitator used our language. The question this time is, did they pay attention during the seminar and learn it by heart or all they wanted is to have their cfo sticker and go home.

  6. She wants to stay here in the US though. She told my wife that she wants to stay cause it's her first real shot of making something of herself and she feels shamed by what is happening.

Oh well, marrying a US citizen is not the only way to make something of herself. no offense but some people really thought that living here in the US changes their way of life and social status in their home country. I am a Filipina and by hardwork and perseverance I can say that I was able to attain my needs and wants and because of love, I gave up everything and it's all worth it.

If I were your wife's friend, i'd rather go home and swallow my pride than living in a hell.

  7. Thanks! Just reading some entries brings up concerns that I didn't even think about. Risk of the overseas medical expiring and having to fork out for another medical seems really unfair. Oh jeez fingers crossed that it doesn't take THAT long.

I got the same letter today and yes you're right i'm concerned about another medical too - another expense which is not our fault in the firstplace. Sigh!

  8. My husband used Orbitz when he booked flights for us. You can check with them anytime. He also went to the Philippines alone and went back together with me.

  10. Don't mean to hijack thread.

Hank or anyone. Can I attend CFO with my Fiance? Can her parents attend with her? she is above 25 so she doesn't need consent but still can they go?

They can but they can't get in to their office. Only your fiance will be allowed to get in, attend the seminar and the interview too.

  11. yahhh we did and we show everything.. but still they are so strict than embassy.. thats wow ha.. and im not satisfied for what they saying on seminar!!!!!!!!!!!!! the girl that interview me is on a powertrip and making things difficult.!!!!!! duhhhhh!!!!

Cfo just wants to make sure that everythin is legit and they don't want you to be sorry when you get here. In fact, they will provide you with important booklet that will be your reference while you're on your way here. Think of it this way, the government is just concerned about us no matter who we are and what our social status is.

You could have read some cfo experiences that were posted here as your guide. The embassy wasn't that strict coz they already made a background check to your partner which I doubt cfo has access with.
