  1. Hi,

Just preparing my I-134 for a K1 visa. I have questions. I have just over the minimum income requirement for the visa. However, my girlfriend/fiancee is also going to be able to continue with her job in London after the move. Most of her work is done on computer and her employer has told her that she will be keeping her job and telecommuting when she moves. Now, that said, I have heard that London Consulate will often allow self sponsoring and while she will not need to do that would the extra income help? Should we get a letter from her employer stating that she will have income? Any ideas on this? Thanks.

  2. Just wanted to check processing times. My application for K-1 is in the Texas Center. I saw on the timeline page that July 3, 2014 NOA1 are being processed. Is that a guess on time frame? My NOA1 was received on June 24, 2014 and I haven't heard a word. Logged into UCIS and there is no information available. Site was recently changed and there could be a hiccup in the system, but seeing July 3 processing has me a bit worried. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  3. We submitted our K-1 package at the beginning of June, but had already purchased airline tickets for her to come and visit on June 20th. I was worried there might be trouble with her coming into the country. I read several posts here that recommended her bringing a lease, letter from her employer, etc. to prove that she was only visiting. So, she gathered up that stuff and head here. Now, she travels a lot and has been in and out of the US 6 to 8 times in the last 3 years. So, she is really familiar with passing through immigration in the US. This time it was a bit different. The immigration officer asked the purpose of her visit and she replied, "holiday." Then he asked other typical questions: how long are you staying? address where you will be staying, etc. All of that was normal. Then the officer hit her with a few that started making her nervous. Do you know anyone in the US? Yes. Who? She gave my name (he was clearly not looking for my name, but for her to say my fiance). How do you know that person? He is my fiance. He asked a few other questions and she was really worried she was going to get pulled and questioned more, but after that he stamped her in and told her to enjoy her stay. She had a tight connection, so she was afraid she might miss her connection, but all went well. I say all of this just to try and ease some other's anxiety. Just be honest and prepared to answer questions.

  4. Hi....

I sent my packet out on June 9th and today, June 13th I got an email telling me the case was received and it gave me a receipt number. It said I would receive a I-797 in the mail in 7 to 10 days. I am trying to keep my timeline current on VJ. Is the a NOA1 or will that follow in a few weeks? I just want the data I enter to be accurate for others to compare to. I am the ultimate newbie. Thanks for your help.

  5. Thanks for any feedback.

I just mailed our I-129F to the Dallas Lockbox yesterday. I am starting to get stuff together for the next round. I just took over a family business this last year and so my income has been minimal as I got it up and running. I have some assets that I can use for financial support and I plan on doing that. My fiance is in London. The question I have deals with a new development. My finace has been pretty tight lipped about our plans at work because she was afraid that if they found out she was leaving they might let her go before the visa came through. They know she is engaged, but not what the plans are...anyway, this week she was at a big sales conference for her company and the company director took her aside and asked asked her what her plans were. She was a bit evasive, but then he just came out and told her that it did not matter which side of the Atlantic she was on that her job was secure. Great news for her because she loves her job and she is great at it. So, my question is this...with a letter and financial records from her job does that improve our financials for the visa? Will they let her use her job toward the financial obligation? Any help would be appreciated.

  6. You need to prove that you have met, in the last two years. You have boarding passes from your trip to NZ, when was that? K1's are not required to show as much proof of an ungoing relationship as other visa types. I took a lot of ungoing things to the interview, but they didn't bother with most of it.

When you are reading other posts here, look at what sort of Visa they are going for, and the countries involved. Sometimes you will run across things that are more country specific.

Went to New Zealand in March of 2013. I see you are from New Zealand...amazing place...best trip of my life. Did a lot of the touristy stuff this trip...Tongariro Crossing, Waitomo Caves, Hell's Gate, Wai-O-Tapu, wine tasting on Waiheke Island...you get the point. I did get off the beaten path some and spent a few days on a farm in Te Aroha...all of it was amazing. I plan on making a lot of trips there in the future. Thanks for your input, I appreciate you taking the time.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I think I just got a little overwhelmed. I will have her signed documents and passport photo next week and can get it FedEx'd.

  7. This should be my last question and it is a well worn subject, but reading all of the information here is just making me paranoid. My fiance lives in the UK and we are applying for the visa now. I have built up the packet to send to Texas, but am a little shaky on the proof of meeting and proof of ongoing relationship. She is originally from New Zealand, but also has UK citizenship. Over the last three and a half years we have seen each other twice a year. She has been here 5 times and once I met her in New Zealand to meet her parents and friends. I have passport stamps from her visits here, I have a dozen or so pictures of us both here and in New Zealand (many in front of landmarks that can be easily verified), I have my boarding passes to New Zealand (and my passport stamp), but she entered on her New Zealand passport...so no stamp. Where I am worried is that I do not have any of her boarding passes because we just did not think to keep them. I have receipts where I purchased a few internal flights for us, but no boarding passes. I have a hotel receipt from a stay in Florida, but it is only in her name. I have copies of tickets I printed off for us to go to a Miami Heat game, but they are in my name only. She has an engagement ring from me, but it was my Grandmother's, so the best I can do is produce a receipt for having it reset and sized for her. For ongoing relationship I have several postcards she has sent me from places she visited in Europe and I can produce some emails, but I lost my computer a few months back so my Skype log only goes back a few months. So, I guess my question is this....is all of this going to be enough? To me all of this would prove that we have met and have an ongoing relationship, but is it going to prove it to whoever deals with the file? Maybe I am just being paranoid from reading all of the posts in the forums here. Any feedback is really appreciated.

  8. My fiance and I are compiling all the paperwork to submit our I-129F. In 2001 she spent 5 months in the US on a J-1 passport as a riding instructor at a children's camp. She says she was issued a Social Security number for the time she was working. Does she need that number or was it just a temp number to cover the taxes for her US employment? Is there any issues this might raise in the process? Thanks to all of you for the guidance.

  9. Thanks in advance for those who contribute here, the information has been very helpful.

I am just starting to wade into this paperwork. I live in the US and my girlfriend (fiance now) lives in London, UK. I have several questions and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    1. My fiance currently resides in the UK and is a British citizen. However, she was born and raised in New Zealand and is also a citizen there. She has lived in London for the last 13 years. The question is...for the purposes of this paperwork should we file under her UK citizenship or her New Zealand citizenship? Or does it matter?

    2. For proof of meeting in the last 2 years. I have plenty of photos of us together at various times and I have my boarding passes from a trip we took to New Zealand where I met her family. She has visited the US several times a year for the past 3 years, she has met my family, we have taken small trips together and I have pictures, but she did not save boarding passes from flights. We have the email confirmations for when the tickets were booked, but none of her boarding passes. She can make copies of her passport showing entry to the US and those dates will match with times I have labeled on the photos of us and with the passport stamps, but is that going to be sufficient?

    3. Two years ago I moved back to the town I grew up in. My parents have a small business here and I have been learning the business and expanding it. However, I have not been taking a paycheck, so I do not have tax records to show support. Now that the business is growing I plan to start taking a paycheck soon, but I still have no way to show income of any substantial nature over the past 2 years. However, we (my family and I) have a substantial amount of real estate and stock that was left in a living trust by my grandmother and when she died that trust was rolled into a corporation. I have a 25% share in that corporation and the assets are around 1.5 million. When the corporation was setup the 4 members of my family that had interest were listed as equal owners and I have those papers. So, my question is...can I use that as proof of support? Or am I going to need to get someone to help me with support? My brother and I share a house together that he owns and it is worth about $180k so we could do that if needed? Any idea on this one?

Okay....I think that is all I have at the moment. I tried searching the forums, but kept getting lost in the sheer volume of information. Thank you again for any help you can offer.
