  1. That was fast! Interview took less than 10 minutes - just asked basic questions off the I-485 and wanted to verify the marriage certificate. Approved! She didn't even look at anything - just asked if we wanted to give any other stuff and then she just took our health insurance coverage. She explained how K-1 visa AOS is very straightforward as the bulk of the work has already been done in the consulate. Greencard will arrive in 1-2 weeks, worst case 3 weeks. Wooooo! :dancing:

    Congratulations! Happy for you!

  2. I just checked my status on line and it was updated!

My card is in production now since it's been 2 days after the interview! yay!

On August 13, 2014, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

  3. Hi I went to the interview yesterday in Manhattan, New York City.

It was very crowded and we were waiting almost for 3hours. It was pain.

Finally, I was called and took an oath, and we were asked many questions!

What's your spouse's full name? Parents' name? Birthday? Phone number?

    Where does your spouse work?

When did you come to the US? When did you go back to Korea? How long?

How did you meet? How long have you lived together?

Have you met each family? How many people come to the wedding ceremony?

What's your common things? Who usually cook? Which movie did you watch recently?

Do you have any photos? Joint-bank account? Bills?

While she was looking over the joint bank account, she asked me where you went shopping? what did you buy? Give me three places you often went in June. Actually, I was panicked. I didn't remember where I went last two months. Grocery? Starbucks? Korean Restaurant?

But after the interview, I realized that that was the easiest question. She was asking my life. There was no right or wrong answer. I guess she just wanted to see how sincerely I answered.

That's all. She said everything was ok and needed to do more back-ground checking and gonna approve it. And also she mentioned about how to remove the conditional one within 2 years.

I was super exhausted after the interview. Under the pressure and the circumstance, it's very nervous. But she was a very nice person. I understand she pretended to be strict and had to be professional. so she gave me some questions that anybody can answer like give me the three names of your spouse's friends, the three names of Korean restaurant you went recently etc. Now I know, I should have been more relax and answered composedly.

It has been 24hours since the interview, but my status online still shows "Testing and Interview," .... I will keep posting it!

    Good luck to everybody!

  4. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

EARLY TODAY WE TOOK ALL THE DOCUMENTS THAT THE OFFICER REQUESTED, AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN WALK US BACK TO HER OFFICE, SHE STOOD US IN THE HALL WAY BY THE DOOR, LOOKD THROUGH, AND SAID, OK, THANKS! ( I WAS ABOUT TO DIE) WHEN SHE TOLD US, YOUR CASE HAS BEEN APPROVED AND YOUR CARD SHOULD BE IN THE MAIL WITHIN TWO WEEKS..............

SUPER HAPPY AND EXCITED FOR MY HUSBAND........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Congratulations!! Happy for you!

My interview is next Monday. ugggghhhhhh :dead:

  5. We had our interview today. It did not go really good. She started asking questions from my wife (USC) and grilled her with questions. Since me and wife started living together we moved to three different addresses and we mixed up date when moved and left on each address. Shed did not ask any other question related to our family life. She requested the lease from our previous apartment. And she said send her the copy of previous lease and she will approve our case

Thank you for posting your experience. Once you sent the copy, you will be fine.

I have an interview next Monday. I prepared all the documents and photos but I am still nervous a little bit.

I just want to be over this long process quickly.

  6. I went to my CUNY school yesterday with the NOA of I-485, and copies of marriage certificate - to change my last name - and three copies of my leases going back to 2011. She said it'd probably take some time, and maybe they even needed more paperwork. So like always, I expected a lot more headache and work - but guess what! Today already, the changes went through and instead of paying $3405 for six credits (last semester) I'm only paying $1658! Already been through 5 semesters of $6300 for each one so $1600 will be nothing .... So happy! Less to worry about now.

    COOL!

I am so happy for you too! Congratulations!

  7. Does it mean one can't get loan or grants for graduate school with just an EAD pending approval and receipt of Green card?!

This is nothing to do with a student loan.

Probably you can try with your receipt or EAD card but to be honest with you, I am not sure.

I strongly recommend you visit a financial aid office in your school and ask them in person. Also, if you are currently an F-1 student, do not forget that show your documents to the international students office. They are going to update your information that you are not an international student any more. After that, you can eligible to apply for financial aids.

I heard it sometimes works. Maybe it depends on schools... so you never know!!

Hope this helps you a little bit! Good Luck :)

  8. Hope everyone else get their EAD soon.

Question: I have SSN 10 years ago but with red stamp with work authorization only. Should I wait for GC to get rid of that stamp or just use my EAD? I heard they still stamp if I present only EAD. Is that true?

Please wait for GC in order to update your information even though your social security numbers are the same.

With your EAD card, you will get the same one that shows "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION."

After you got a green card, and bring it to your local social office then they are going to remove the phrase and send it to your mailing address.

  9. This is what CUNY writes on the page about in-state tuition: "

How do I qualify for in-state tuition as a student with immigration status?

You qualify for in-state tuition if you have resided in New York State for at least one year AND one of the following:

You are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have a permanent resident application pending. (Note: You must have filed a Form I-485. Having a pending or approved I-130 or I-140 petition is not sufficient; or

    [.....]

If you maintain lawful F-1 status, you can only qualify for in-state tuition if you apply to become a permanent resident by filing USCIS Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) or change to another qualifying status. "

So, even though one of my advisors said she thought I needed my EAD card it looks like as long as I have a pending I-485 I can apply for in-state tuition. I've lived here for 2.5 years and I've been maintaining my F-1 status all along.

    Hi there,

Please go to see your international student advisors and show your receipt of I-485 to them.

They are going to change your status probably. Once you submitted I-485, you are not technically an F-1 student now.

Additionally, in order to qualify for in-state tuition, I heard that you and your spouse have to pay taxes more than 1 year. But please confirm this with your advisors. Good luck to you!
