  1. I got my i90 receipt today! I got a green card with my birthdate reversed after double checking it during my interview, so filed an i90.

It turns out I went to infopass today with the USCIS account created receipt notice, but since it says it's for an i90 and has the case number on it, the immigration officer considered it enough evidence. I now finally have my i-551 stamp! I went to social security right away and soon I'm headed to the DMV :) I can't wait to drive again!!

The i-90 receipt I got today says "Applicant/Petitioner Fee: $0.00" so hopefully USCIS is replacing my GC at no cost.

  2. How long does superior's approval usually takes? We have a similar situation with only difference that the interview took place 3 weeks ago and still no updates but during the interview we were told that my green card was approved. Is there anything I can do at the moment?

My backup plan was to make an Infopass appointment to inquire and ask about getting a stamp in my passport instead.

  3. Hi VJ!

Our AOS Interview was May 13 and went very well. We were approved, gave me my welcome letter, and it was easy. I'm very happy I'm approved, but my online USCIS case status hasn't updated at all. It still tells me that my interview has been scheduled.

I've read so many stories about the status updating right away and the card being produced the next day... What's going on?

I've made an infopass appointment for next Friday to get a stamp just in case there's a really long delay.

  4. Hi there!

So I got my EAD last week with an error on it (details here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/543641-wrong-birthdate-on-ead-and-gc-how-did-you-fix-this )

In the meantime, my Green Card interview has been booked for May 13. I am seeing that I will be expected to turn in my EAD at my interview? Should I send in my EAD card and hope it gets replaced, or should I keep it to return at the interview?

This process never gets less confusing!

  5. Update to my EAD case online.

I called USCIS yesterday and told them about the error on my EAD and was given a reference number. My online case status was updated 3 times:

    • On April 6, 2015, your request to correct an error on your document or notice, referral number T****MSC, was assigned to an officer for response.
    • On April 6, 2015, we sent a response to your request to correct an error on your document or notice, referral number T****MSC.
    • On April 6, 2015, your request to correct an error on your document or notice, referral number T****MSC, was completed.

Hopefully those updates mean that they'll just issue a corrected card but it's probably a letter where I have to send my card back.

As for my I-485 correction, the overnighted letter was delivered today. We sent it to National Benefits Center in Lee's Summit, ATTN: Adjustment of Status, PO Box 648004. Let's hope that was the right place and the letter is going to fix the issue.

  6. Hi VJers,

Well after a pretty smooth K-1 process I've finally hit a really great snag. My Canadian heritage messed me up and I put my date of birth in wrong on my EAD and GC applications. I noticed when I got my EAD in the mail today and my birthdate is reversed (8 Jun instead of 6 Aug). I double checked my documents and yep, it's my fault :(

Called USCIS and was told to send a letter to Lee's Summit with an explanation and correction letter. I also sent them a copy of my passport and visa with correct birthdates.

What do I do about the EAD? Can I work, or am I screwed up until my (hopefully correct) GC comes? I've made an infopass appointment just in case, but I worry time is running out and my GC will get approved before I can really fix it...

  7. Wow, what an odd tale. Having imported a car myself (a ford), I highly recommend everyone just take the extra ten minutes and do it at the border. The guy there filled all of the paperwork out for me. After that I lucked out at the DMV, got a person who had no idea what to do with foreign cars and just plated me like a regular driver lol Saved a lot of tax. Unfortunately I get a lot of junk mail from this scam warranty place in Chicago (that I guess scans the VIN registry) now that looks like its a government notice, but wants me to buy an extended warranty. Be careful of those.

If you can do that, sure! The main difference that would've made in my case is my car could possibly have been denied entry at the border, though, for not being up to safety.

  8. Hmm - I don't get it - you have to officially import it before sending it to the junkyard? Can't you just take it to the junkyard and get it crushed and be done?

That's right, it has to be imported first. No junkyard will take the car.

But in better news, the car was sold in Canada as a Suzuki Forenza, HUGE thanks to JohnR for finding it! I've hopefully ordered the part that will bring this saga to a close.

  9. Here's my warning to you VJers planning to drive your car into the US!

I knew that I had 6 months to import my car to the USA, so I didn't sweat researching the import process much before I left. I spent so much time on everything else, I thought I'd take a bit of a break from it all. Boy, has it come back to bite me.

My little 2007 Chevy Optra got us down to LA, and the Customs officials had no problem with me saying "I've got 6 months to import it, so I'm going to take care of that when we're more settled in."

Well, three weeks later the head gasket blew on it. Coolant burning, pulling off the freeway, TONS of smoke. The car is toast, and that's a bummer. So I figure - no problem. I'll import the car and we'll junk it.

The Optra was never sold in the USA! So the result is that it doesn't meet safety standards, and there's no part available to bring it up to US safety standards. We spent 2 hours at a GM dealership to confirm that no part was ever made that would fix the problem. The problem, you ask? The passenger airbag light on my car is a little symbol. In USA, it has to have words instead.

All of my research now says that my only option now is to destroy the car. It can't be sold or donated to anyone. I can't transfer the title to anybody in the US, and I can't import it.

When I called customs to ask how I get a car destroyed to stay legal with them, all I got was incredibly rude treatment and no answers! I'm stuck with a car sitting in my mechanic's parking lot because I didn't do my research ahead of time.

Don't be a bonehead like I was - make sure your car can come into the USA!

And if you've been in a similar situation and know what I should do with my car... I'm all ears
