  1. I brought my fiance' (now spouse) over on a K-1 visa and am preparing paperwork for her AoS.

    It looks like I file the affidavit as the petitioner (1A)

    Although I made enough last year 125% over poverty level (barely) I'm considering adding my father as a sponsor (he's willing) 'just to be sure'.

    Although we live at the same address we consider our selves as having a separate house hold. I rent a room.

    He could file an I-864A (only to be used if my income is considered to not be enough), or instead it seems like he could file the I-864 (1D) as a joint sponsor instead.

    It seems like filing I-864 as a joint sponsor is an agreement between that person and the government and the I-864A is a contract between the sponsor and a household member, but the legal responsibility for that person appears to be the same either way.

    If that's the case then why have the I-864A form at all? Why not have each sponsor file the I-864?

    Meh ...

    Question 1) Do you think it's fine if he files the I-864 instead of the I-864A?

    Question 2) Is there an advantage of one over the other that I'm not seeing?

    Question 3) My other option is to just file with out him and if they deem I need more money would I get a chance to send in another sponsor's paperwork to back me up?

    Thank you in advance :)

  2. Marivic received her visa :D but she still has to go to counseling class and CFO. I also know there is a tax at airport and some sort of departure fee (there's always another fee isn't there? :P )

    The counseling class and CFO mostly seem to ask for a lot of the same basic things USEM was looking for like birth certificates, passport bio pages, etc., but they may ask for any number of other things not specifically listed as well.

    Question 1) What things might they ask for other than ...

    Requirements for Attendance to Guidance and Counseling Program
    1. Original and photocopy of two (2) valid identification cards with photograph;
    2. Duly completed guidance and counseling form;
    3. If married, original and photocopy of marriage contract on security paper from the National Statistics Office (NSO), or from Local Civil Registry Offices (LCRO); or original and photocopy of Report of Marriage duly registered by the Philippine Embassy/Consulate or the Department of Foreign Affairs (if married abroad);
    4. Other documents as may be required by the counselors; and
    5. Payment of Php 400.00 counseling and registration fee.

    Requirements for Registration
    1. Original and photocopy of passport;
    2. Original and photocopy of visa;
    3. Original and photocopy of Immigrant Data Summary for US-bound emigrants (except for K visa holders);
    4. Original and photocopy of Confirmation of Permanent Residence for Canada-bound emigrants;
    5. Original and photocopy of Certificate of Eligibility for Japan-bound emigrants;
    6. Original CFO Guidance and Counseling Certificate (after satisfactory completion of the GCP); and
    7. Duly completed emigrant registration form.

    Question 2) Other than the airport and departure tax in Manila what else may be needed before departure (mostly where documents are concerned either to leave Manila or to enter the U.S.) ?

    Links to any web-sites for what might be needed when entering the U.S. is good too. I'll continue to google and see what I come up with.

    As always thank you in advance. She's almost here ;) Mwuah!

  3. I apologize for my question but are you like below the poverty line? Are you going to do co-sponsor?

    Tricky answer >< She has two children and I listed them both on the 129F and the DS-160, but before I submitted the I-134 she decided to let her oldest brother and his wife raise one of her children in the Philippines so I only included one child on that form.

    According to my tax's last year I am at 125% for a family of 3

    According to the amount I made over the past 12 months I believe they may conclude I'm a little short for a family of 2

    (I'm assuming they are looking at gross pay instead of net, but I'm really uncertain)

    My bank wouldn't supply me with a letter stating how much in deposits I've had over the past year since I no longer live near a branch office I could walk in. The only thing I could provide was bank statements that I printed out. I had to leave my job at the time to go to the Philippines which cost me 11 weeks of pay; 3 weeks there and it took about two months to find work again >< I also had a gap in employment last fall for a month. :( So if they go by that I need a sponser.

    If they go by my current job pay stubs I'm back to 125% for a family of 3.

    I included my fathers 1-134 along with mine. If they allow that then there would be no issue at all whether it was one or two children.

    What is a bit frustrating for me is my fiance' is the only one applying now; so I'm thinking as long as I can cover us two then her coming here should be fine. Bringing one or two kids over later is a separate issue on a K-2 and if I don't have the money then they would just have to stay there until I do, but the USEM may not look at things that way. They may treat it as a all or nothing now. If so I don't like that :P because we are accepting that we may not be able to bring her one child over for awhile although we'd like to next year.

    (Sorry; I didn't mean to hi-jacks some one else's thread)

  4. Once you have your MNL case number and confirmation the NVC has shipped your petition to Manila go for it :) It will take the USEM there about a month before they do anything on their end (or even look at your petition yet). It took them 28 days to respond to an email >< I believe in our case it took about 40 days from when my petition was shipped before they sent a letter to my fiance'. So it won't hurt to work in advance, but maybe don't get so far ahead of them that they aren't ready for you? I wonder if that is possible. They are slooooooow ... :(

  5. Ah okay. Hmmm ... not sure what I thought I saw in the past, but it seems it doesn't matter. Thank you for the replies. She'll go this week and interview is the 25th! Unfortunately we'll be waiting on her CoC from Singapore still >< I had no idea how long that process would take, but at least we are getting closer. :)

  6. I could have sworn at one point I saw a post about the certain days being for certain things at St Luke's in Manila when it comes to exams, but after looking through 40 pages of forums and about ten websites I give up >< Does any one have any information pertaining to the best day to go, or if certain days are for certain things? Thank you in advance ^_^

  7. My fiance is in Manila Philippines, but she worked in Singapore for awhile and it seems we will need a CoC from the Singapore police.

    Question on fingerprints: Do the finger prints have to be a fingerprint card authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila, or would the Singapore police accept something from a local NPI office or police station? (She's basically in a suburb and it would be a two hour bus ride or something like that to the DFA/US Embassy I think)

    Does any one have experience with this?

    Thank you in advance. ^_^

  8. My fiance is Filipino living in Manila, but she recently worked in Singapore for about one and a half years. I received a letter about 3 weeks ago from the NVS stating that my petition has been sent to the US embassy in Manila. I've called the embassy and apparently there is no one to speak with to verify that they have received it, that it's being processed or anything. There also doesn't seem to be a website that I can go to to verify this either :( All I was given was an email address to submit my inquiry with a week or more waiting time.

    A US government website indicates that we can get clearance papers from Singapore with a special note about non citizens of Singapore. The Singapore police website states it's for citizens only and needs to paid from a Singapore bank. I read some where else that we will need some special paper that the US embassy should be sending my fiance that we will send to Singapore to get documentation that she was not a criminal there.

    Even with the paper I'm at a loss of how I can pay with a Singapore bank. >< Anyway ... frustrated that we are in the dark with no realistic way of finding out what is going on if anything. For all we know they mailed it and it never made it to it's proper destination ><

    If she hadn't worked in Singapore then we could have scheduled an appointment on line already because we only need a couple more things. It's this Singapore clearance issue that is holding us up and waiting to get this paper from the US embassy in Manila. I've already that they don't send packets and papers anymore so ... I'm not sure what is going on. :P

    Any one have any advise, answers or experience with this?

    Thank you in advance.

  9. My K-1 petition was approved and should be on it's way to the National Visa Center. I have been a temporary employee for two years and haven't been able to find permanent employment. Last year I made well over what is required for a fiance' visa and this year I will as well. I'm just wondering how critical this is?

    Has anyone on here had their visa rejected due to temporary employment?

  10. My fiance' in the Philippines sent me her paper work for the G-325A (since her portion require's her original signature), but I don't think she filled out the address portion correctly :(

    She has resided in the Philippines for the past 5 years except when she worked in Singapore for about a year and a half.

    She did not list the Singapore address under "Applicant's residence last five years. List present address first", but she did include the address under "Applicants employment last five years"

    It's easy to see where she has lived the past five years based on the information she has provided, but I'm concerned it will still not be considered correct.

    I could hand write the information, but my hand writing is different of course and I don't know if that is acceptable.

    I could attach a piece of paper behind her form explaining; although her signature wouldn't be there.

    The question: "Applicant's last address outside the United States of more than 1 year" is a bit tough to answer as well. She just got back to the Philippines from Singapore in February. So her Philippines address is her last address and she has lived there more than a year (since 2008 not including her work in Singapore), but if they want her last address which she continuously lived at for more than one year continuously that would be Singapore. ><

    I'd rather not have her fill it out and mail it again (due to time and I can't believe how expensive it was for her to send it by DHL).

    Advice on how I can correct this on my end in the U.S.?

  11. Hello Visajourney :D I'm just starting mine and the amount of information on the internet as well as the official USCIS can be a bit daunting. :( It seems confusing and like a near impossible task at first, but after reading and re-reading link after link some of it is starting to make sense :P This is/was written as an email to my fiance (my personal worksheet) , but I thought I'd post it here to get feed back and it may help some one else that is starting their fiance visa journey as well :D

    My focus right now is just on the petition I-129F to get things started. So for any one that has actual experience with this already do you see anything that I'm missing? Thank you in advance!
