Emily, you got more questions than we did. In fact, I got more questions than my fiance lol
omg! why ? LOL . at least those were easy questions, unlike a couple next to us, they were getting grenades instead of questions, and the interviewer asked them more than 20 questions
-
Can you tell us what questions they asked you and what they asked your fiance?
thank you so much everyone!
THE QUESTIONS WERE PRETTY SIMPLE
to me :
1) how did u guys meet? we met on fb, he found me since we share the same interests and we have lots of bands in common
2) what kind of music do you guys listen to ? Metal and rock ( she laughed and said, he looks like a metal head but you not too much)
3) was he married before? yes
4) how many times? once
5? does he have any childen? no, he doesn't
6) have u ever traveled before ? no I haven't
7) have you ever been to prison or have any problems with the law? no
8) what month did u guys meet on facebook? april 2013
9) where does he live at the states? Columbus, OH
to him :
1) have you met her family: yes
2) how many times have you been here? 5
3) do you have kids? no
3) what do you usually do when you come to the D.R? we go out on dates, chill out with her family, take walks, go to the movies , exercise , etc
4) have you petitioned anyone before ? if so , where was she from?, yes, my ex wife from the PI
5) what is her mother's name? patricia
6) where did you guys do on her birthday? we went out on a date to a brazilian steak house ( the interviewer asked : where, santo Domingo or Santiago?)
7) what month did you get divorced? the divorced was finalized in nov 2013
8) what does she do for a living? she works in a call center
9) did she have another job before that? yes, she was an English teacher .

Arrived at the US Embassy in Santo Domingo at 5:45 in the morning - expecting to wait all day until 5 PM for an answer on approval/denial. The new US Embassy is very fancy and expensive looking. We waited in a massive crowd of people wearing too much perfume and cologne; it formed a giant stink cloud in front of the embassy itself. Yes, we Dominicans wear too much of that stuff. It took about 45 min to an hour to get through the security in the front. People that had cell phones and other devices on them were sent to the back of the line because they don't allow anyone to bring those items in. My fiancé and I were separated in different lines in security for awhile but we found each other afterwards. After passing through security there's a big courtyard with an outdoor waiting area with seats and TV screens displaying ticket numbers. We went to this main indoor building which had around 60 plus ticket windows and lots of seats to wait for our ticket number to be called. We waited about 25 or so minutes and our ticket number was called to a window, where the officer went over some paperwork with us and gave us the instructions on where to pay the visa fee. We were sent to the cashier to pay 80 dollars for the visa and then we went back to the same window. After that we had to wait for my name to be called to get the finger prints in window 1. After the finger prints we waited another 45 minutes for our number to be called again, and that's when we went to a different interview with an American woman at the window giving the interview. She was polite and friendly, asked some basic questions about us. That whole thing took 5-10 minutes and we were approved! I didn't even have to show the I-134 document/supporting documents which was weird. Actually, all we had to show was the appointment letter, photographs of us mainly. The interviewer seemed to look more at the photographs of us to determine the legitimacy of our relationship, rather than complicated questions. Overall, the experience in Santo Domingo was pretty smooth, the hard part was waiting and waiting. We were approved around 9:20 in the morning. After that we were sent to the front of the building outside to pay the courier for the visa delivery and then we were out of there quite quickly. Getting your visa is about a 3-4 hour process here, though I could tell for some people it could last 4-5 hours.

Congratulations!!! And thank you! I know to wear comfortable shoes and be ready to wait standing up for hours
I hope they get the rest of the issues figured out soon. We have so much evidence, and I think we won't even need it. Seems they don't ask for much most of the time. But we will bring it just in case. Keep us posted when you get your visa, so we have an idea how long it takes after approval. What hotel did you stay at?
On another note, did you like Boca Marina? I've always wanted to go, hoping to go when I am in SD for the interview
Thank you! Do you know how far the Embassy is from the Colonial Zone?
yes , about 20 minutes(with no traffic)
-
Well, we will be going to Santo Domingo from Santiago the day of our interview, so we would have no choice but to pay someone to safeguard at least one of our cellphones so that we can call a taxi afterwards to take us to the buses back to Santiago. We do not plan on getting a hotel room, so does anyone have any other suggestions as far as being able to get to the buses w/o having a cell phone on us? Do you think taxis will be whizzing by that we can flag down to take us somewhere if we leave the cellphone home?
there is actually a company in santiago that picks you up at 3-4 am, takes you to the embassy , waits , and takes u back for only 20 dollars i think, i know it bc my mom used their service once before, i wish i had the number with me tho
-
I have my interview next monday 7/7/2014. call me whatever you want, but i didn't like the way that micro hotel condo & suits hotel looks so we are staying at the colonial zone (yes a little bit too far from the new embassy ) i found a good deal at https://www.hotel-palacio.com 229 USD for 3 nights (special price) so we booked it. i'll deff let you all know about my experience at the new embassy
-
When i called they told me it was going to be 180 for the medical examination and 110 for the vaccines .but, once i got there i only paid 29 dollars instead of 110 , i asked them why, they told me it was bc The prices went down and i only needed 2 vaccines (DT AND MMR). i went there last wed BTW

The Birth certicate in Extensa that you are taking to the Interview does not have to be translated. I translated all my documents. Are you bilingual?
yes i know, but i will need to make a copy of my birth certificate and translate it for AOS. yes i am bilingual.
-
Anyone fluent in both languages can do the translation. It does not have to be notarized. It needs to contain this certification from the one that translates it > http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations
Source page > http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing
Does your consulate require documents in Spanish to be translated to English? Most consulates accept documents in English or the native language of the country. You will need the translation for AOS anyway though, so you might as well do it.
no , all documents that are neither in english nor spanish must be translated. and yes i will need to translate the cpy of my BC for AOS
-
yes and yes lol..
but the guideline here says a copy, so I have a copy of my birth certificate in extensa. Still thinking if I translate here or in the US.
can i translate it myself? i am not willing to pay for a possible non accurate translation LOL or does it have to be notarized? grrrr
-
good night everyone!
how many birth certificates do i really need? i know i need one for the interview, but,do i need another one for AOS and get it translated too? ,
thanks
-
Oh wait, I went yesterday and it was....180 consult and the vaccines 109! one dollar less! yay...lol
LOL
-
Thank you guys!

Hello guys,
When do you think is the best time for me to fill out the form DS-160 ?my fiance thinks we won't get an interview date until i fill that form out (i contacted the embassy and they told me they schedule the interviews upon availability, they did not mention anything about the DS-160) Should i do it now even though i still don't have my interview date? should i do it 1 month b4 the interview? does it expire? i'm confused
Thank you,
-
I was doing my own research and saw that this link http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/scheduled_appointments.html has all of the scheduled appointments (which is updated constantly). You can do a search for your specific case number and see if it is scheduled and when. If it is not on the list then it may not be scheduled yet. I also saw that you can all a VISA specialist at the US Dept of State, but I do not know the current phone number for that. The old number I saw was 202-663-1225.
Based off of what I read, I believe the Dominican Republic embassy will schedule the interview for you (* which currently seems like a couple of months out*) and it may be that they will send the letter with your interview date about a month from your interview date (based on my research here on the site).
Also on this page http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Dominican+Republic&cty=Santo+Domingo it says that the embassy schedules the interview. So the wait begins ...
PS: this link was also of some help: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Dominican_Republic:_After_Receiving_the_NOA2
Hi reggie, yes ! as far as i know the santo domingo embassy will schedule our interview( i hope the wait time is not too long) i think that page with the scheduled appointments is a little outdated and it's pretty hard to find your case # . yes , there is a visa specialist number you can call, we called yesterday and they told us that they no longer provide the interview dates :s we were advised to wait til we get the nvc letter with the instructions and call back within 2-3 weeks . (bah)
that last link you attached is pretty helpful, I love it! i read it every once in a while
PS: our timelines are so similar that i'm starting to believe we will get the same interview date

Hello everyone ,
I checked my visa application status a few days ago on the CEAC WEBSITE and it said that my case was in transit to the Santo Domingo embassy, so today i went to check it again and it says : Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html
was my interview scheduled already? we called some numbers today ,but, they said they didn't have any info yet .... we are confused! what should we do from now on? my fiance is coming to the D.R this sunday and he will be here until thursday , how long should we wait to call again and find out if we were scheduled or not?
your response will be greatly appreciated
-
my fiance had the same problem too, he had been calling nonstop since last week and the lines were always busy, he called today at 10 am and fortunately he waited on hold for about 45 minutes until he could talk to a representative, i say fortunately bc being on hold for 45 minutes is way better than a busy line , he asked all kinds of questions but he forgot to ask about the case number!!!! , so he called again at 3 something pm, waited on hold and then they gave him the case #, just keep calling and don't give up
-
ask her mom to go to la junta central , get the birth certificate that your fiancee needs and then mail it to you , you don't need to come to the D.R
