Hey guys!!!!! I called monday to speak to a supervisor abt the mistake that NVC operators made by not giving me accurate info as to what was wrong (checklist). Spoke to supervisor Silvia on monday who reminds me of myself but doing whatever she can to help and extremely professional.....said she would call me back......just got the message that we're approved/case complete thank God. Cant wait to see my baby

Ok guys.....here's the issue:
.I received an email on what I thought was a false checklist for "original birth certificate and marriage license on 10/22/14.
.I called on that day and 3 TIMES AFTER THAT WITHIN 3 WEEKS....for details on the checklist.
.Reps kept telling me that they need original docs of marriage license and birth certificate which I sent in on 9/26/14.
.reps told me on 3 different occasions "oh I see we received mail on 9/26 that might not have been reviewed yet.
.Last monday I called and was told that I need an inextensa birth certificate and the notarization on the marriage licence needs to come from a different office.
What im confused abt is why no one could tell me this until as of last monday when I called. Now they keep saying that the standard time is 60 days to review. I would've gotten them exactly what they needed if a competent rep could've told me that. That was the entire reason for the last "now 5 calls"
Does anyone think a supervisor could change this 60 day BS?!?!?!

So sorry about that, the reps are nasty and notorious for telling different lies. I doubt if a supervisor can change their policy, but there's no harm in trying. You can ask of supervisor Silvia, Octavio or Betsy.

I'm so very sorry this happened to you but if you complain do it here NVCINQUIRY@state.gov Attn : P I Dept. ( in the subject line) . You may not get a response but believe me it works. So many people complained about Joy-less that she finally started being nice. So please keep this information for next time if you don't already have it.
It's impossible (so they say) to find files knowing the Case Number, they say it's impossible due to the amount of files that come in daily.
I'll be praying you get your expedite very soon and that the rest of your journey is a smooth one.

When Humana advised you could not purchase insurance, was it simply because it is outside of the open enrollment period or did they give another reason?
Also, when did you apply for AOS, and have you received your EAD yet? (if it was recent this may be helpful).
Unless you experience a life changing event I think you will have limited options, unfortunately. I think at this stage you have four options:
1. It is an unlikely option, but you can contact the federal exchange and explain your situation and see if they can identify any way you might qualify for special consideration to sign up for a market insurance plan outside of open enrollment. Its possible you could qualify for a complex situation special consideration because of "misinformation or misrepresention" that prevented you from being enrolled in a plan by the close of the open enrollment period. https://www.healthcare.gov/sep-list/. Alternatively, you can see if only having recently applied for AOS and having received EAD allows you to sign up now.
2. If you are not able to get special consideration and you have pre-existing health concerns, then the insurance available through your husbands employer may be your best option for full coverage at the moment.
3. If that is not affordable, you don't have a pre-existing condition, but you want to have insurance in case of an emergency then you will still be able to purchase a short term plan. These are not the same as regular insurance plans but will provide coverage for emergency situations. This is the summary provided on ehealthinsurance.com:
"A short-term health plan is a temporary plan that offers coverage for 30 days up to 12 months and can provide you some protection until you have a qualifying life event or the next Open Enrollment Period begins. Short-term policies are not guaranteed-issue, do not cover pre-existing conditions, and are not considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act; so even if you enroll in and maintain short-term coverage, you may still be subject to the tax penalty."
4. The last option is simply to take your chances and wait until November to sign up for insurance coverage for 2015.

It seems that it is not unusual for recent immigrants to have difficulty signing up, particularly where they have applied for AOS but have not yet received their green card. On initial application the system says they are not eligible and it has to be appealed. From what I've seen though it is usually approved during the first appeal step and it usually occurs quickly.

There is no reason you could not get insurance on your own, and you may still be able to sign up for insurance through the federal government marketplace.
An alternative is to contact your husbands insurance provider (the one provided by his father) and see whether it is possible to be added (I have no idea if that is possible and would depend on the policy).
The only problem I can see is that it's outside of the open enrollment period, and to sign up now requires meeting one of the life changing qualifying events. But looking at your timeline its been more than 60 days since you moved to your state and more than 60 days since you got married. However, there may be other exceptions that would make you eligible (the federal marketplace allows 60 days but private insurance usually only allows 30 days to sign up from the date of the qualifying event).
You can probably start at this site (https://www.healthcare.gov/) for information about the federal marketplace criteria, or look at private insurance providers that offer insurance outside of the open enrollment period.

If you mean health insurance through the marketplaces, then they need to demonstrate they are lawfully present. If they don't yet have their green card, other documents can be provided such as EAD (and assuming of course that they meet the other eligibility criteria).

If you are applying for marketplace insurance (and they are willing to accept your application at this point) then you are eligible for health insurance if you are in the process of adjusting your status to lawful permanent resident. However, a lot of people in your situation are being denied initially because staff are poorly informed and the system they use gives them limited options. You have to apply and then when it's not accepted you have to request that the decision be appealed. Most people will find that once they appeal and submit evidence of their lawful presence status then their eligibility is accepted and the application for health insurance is approved.

I called NVC and spoke to Amanda same old same old and she must have heard my voice crack and I told her what the two supervisors said about the AOS that is was accepted so she asked me to wait came back and said they should have moved my case a long a few days ago. That my AOS has some mistakes and I don't believe that because a genius helped me actually did the whole thing for me so not sure what mistakes they are talking about and said I'll be getting an e-mail about that but to send it to the Embassy corrected. I freaked out because my computer crashed and I lost everything but checked in case I had hard copies and yup sure enough I do.
Yes Amanda same thing happened to me but I know my AOS was approved and with no flaws but now they are saying there are flaws which is impossible because of who filled them out for me. A genius really.

My police certificate was in english so I didn't get to translate it. If am in your position, I think I'll just send everything in, just in case. I don't trust NVC because they are notorious for giving conflicting info.

Hi everyone. I'm totally bushed tonight. I was going to call NVC to find out the scan date for my IV package, but I've been so depressed I can't even muster the energy to do it. I should be happy I'm near the end of the process, but I think I'm just really worn out from waiting so long.
I keep thinking if it weren't for the backlogs, I'd be in the US right now. I just don't wanna call NVC and get someone talk to me like I'm an idiot. I've already spent all day on a time management course at work where I was treated like an idiot for being a "right-brained" person with no organisational or planning skills...
I can't even fully commit myself to my work anymore. Since the beginning of this year, everyone at work has known I'd be leaving "in a few months" so I haven't been as involved with things and get left out. I got recommended for a pay rise by my line manager in April, but her manager said no because we can't afford it, then gave pay rises to his finance team I guess he said no since I'm leaving so it's not worth rewarding me. I wish I hadn't said anything now since it's taken so long and it's just awkward at work. Every month I'm still there they're like "I thought you were leaving o_O"
The company is heading in a bad direction anyway with dubious business practices. It's getting stressful and I just want to leave! I feel like I've been on the brink of leaving, but can't quite make my escape because the backlogs just get bigger and I need to save money before I do eventually leave. Knowing my luck, the London embassy will get backlogged next.

This might be Embassy/Country specific, for me everything had to be translated the good thing is that in Egypt most things are available in both Arabic and English. You might want to post this on Saylin's thread. Geeeeeeeeez wish I had posted it on the first page but they you know it already.
I for one rather be safe than sorry if you can get the document and there in Spanish have them translated. But if there right then there is no need.

You're so close to the end, you just have to look forward. I too have been feeling so depressed. I've barely done any work recently and it's getting to a point where I will end up not passing the year. I think the hardest thing is not knowing when you will be leaving. It's the uncertainty that is really difficult, especially when you're trying to be motivated about anything. You just have to remember that this is temporary.

Welcome here. The process of the immigration is already a long one and we all need each other in order to get relief because no one understands this process more like the ones going thru it.

Hey team! Wow, is this a breath of fresh air!
I don't want to say anything bad about the other thread (other than when people get nasty or sarcastic) because it has been an invaluable support to me in this process that even my husband doesn't get (no matter how may times I explain the process!). I think though that the thread gets so long that it ceases to be helpful. A lot of times I would sit down to catch up on 10-12 pages(!!!) when I don't have the time or ability to check in during the day. And would read questions that I would want to answer, but then wouldn't want to repeat an answer, so I would want to read all the way to the end first, but then forget the questions I would want to answer/comments I would want to respond to! It is just soooo much! Especially after the first few days. Imagine coming in fresh from your I-130 on the 25th of the month and you have to read 250 pages to get caught up and not repeat a question or something. It's crazy!
So it's nice to come and share with friends in a little smaller space... Although now I'll have 2 threads to follow! But I'll be fun. And you gotta laugh at yourself and with others or we'll all really lose it! Thanks Soloenta for starting this bad boy! You are an absolute PEACH!
Also, PS: I have gotten 3 IV invoice emails, 2 after I paid it although it still says "in process"
PPS: I think there is way too much action with approvals/fees for something not to be changing at NVC. This new process has to be shaking things up a bit!

I thought my question would better thrive here than in the 'normal' nvc thread,
I've seen plenty of people complaining about the nvc -usually justified- and Soloenta even has a link in her signature where to send complaints about Rep's that are w@nkers. Now I am wondering, can I use the same address to tell the supervisor that a certain rep did an outstanding job and was actually polite to me?
I've been around here for a while, and I've called the nvc about 1 gazilion times and for the first time I had a rep (Rick) who was polite, and actually tried to help me.
So.. does anyone have any input on this?
