  1. She was denied. :( The interview sounded like it went really well too. The CO was asking a lot of questions about her traveling to Greece and coming back many times. She told them how she went for vacation and for studies. They asked her about her job, and she replied she has one. They asked where, and for how long. She replied at the Greek Embassy for the past couple of years as a temp and this year they kept her full time. She had an official statement from the Greek Embassy with her as well confirming. They asked why is she going, she replied to visit me, my family, and go to my friends wedding. The CO asked "what kind of family is there", and she replied my mother, father, and brother. The CO returned, "so he has a lot of family there." The CO asked if we met in person, and she said yes, I have been to Ukraine a few times already.

Then she just suddenly said, "I'm sorry but I cannot give you a visa" and that was the end of it.

I'm sure I'm leaving out a bit, she told me a lot, but she gets really upset when she talks about it so I'm just leaving it alone. It looks like we're just going to do a K1.

  2. I think we're just going to go with the truth.

"I'm going to visit my boyfriend and meet his family."

I was going to suggest as well that she mentions that I have already gone to kiev to meet her family and spend time with her twice this year. My thought process behind that is give them a sense of that it's not a bullshit relationship.

    Yay or nay?

  3. At my interview for B2 visa they asked me what's the purpose of the visit, I told them visiting my boyfriend. Then they asked of I am planning to get married, and I just said no. Then they asked if I work and for how many years. The answer was, yes for three years as an engineer, and I was approved. They didn't even ask for any documents, and the whole interview lasted about 5 minutes. Just tell her to be confident, there was a girl that had interview before me, who was so nervous and she was denied. So there is nothing to lose if you try. And even if she gets visa, she should be prepared for POE, because I saw few people from Ukraine who were taken to further questioning at the POE. Good luck

Did they mean are you planning on getting married eventually or during your visit?

  4. I didn't say people told me to lie, but it doesn't' seem like telling the complete truth is a good idea either.

Even with two solid supporting documents that she will return to Ukraine (proof of employment at respectable job, and masters degree program at best university in Ukraine) doesn't bear much weight on the issue.according to some.

At this point I feel like just saying to visit my boyfriend, meet his family, attend his best friends wedding seems like the logical thing to say.

  5. I'm so confused as what advice to give her. I keep getting mixed replies. Some people say tell the truth, others say if you mention boyfriend it's basically shooting yourself in the foot.

As I was getting on the plane to come back to New York, I saw a young couple with Ukrainian passports. I couldn't help myself and I asked them if they were going to New York with tourist visas. They said they were going on a B1/B2 visa. When I asked them what they were asked, they simply replied, they were asked what are you going for, and they told me they replied, "For adventures". Literally verbatim they said, that they said for adventures, maybe that translates differently in Ukrainian. They said they received their visa with their first attempt.

So should we tell the whole truth? Part of the truth? I'm feeling very ambivalent.

In case someone is just reading this thread for the first time. She has proof of employment at the Greek Embassy. She has proof from her University that she will be starting a Masters Program there. She has prior visa's to Greece.

  6. Okay, so then we'll tell the truth then. The truth is basically this.

"I want to visit my boyfriend in Long Island, New York. We have been together a little under a year and he has already come to Kiev twice and stayed for many weeks. He would like to introduce me to his parents, family, and friends. His best friend is getting married, and he is the best man. It will be a good opportunity to meet everyone. We talked about getting a K1 but don't want to rush into that. A tourist visa is best for everyone involved, his family and my family."

  7. Hello everyone,

My girlfriend is from Ukraine. She is making a 2nd attempt for a tourist visa. Her first attempt she was denied. She had just graduated from school, and they're reason for denial was the expected not enough evidence that she'll return back to Ukraine.

This time she will be better prepared. She has official documents from her job at the Greek Embassy in Kiev, that she works there as well as documents from her university that she was just accepted to their masters program on a full scholarship. She

also has some extra cash from saving most of the summer. She will be scheduling her interview this month. I want her to come with me to my best friends wedding. What should she tell the consulate that interviews her? They will surely ask her, what is

your reason for this trip. She was thinking of saying for a friends wedding, as well as saying that it's a good opportunity to go because the embassy isn't as busy, that she wants to see New York etc. Should she mention me, or that we have a

relationship to them at all? What do you all think? I'll praying to god but I'm still very nervous.

  8. Hello,

I have a question about the proof of support. I'm currently 30 years old, and moved back in with my parents. I was working as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at a hospital in New York City. I was laid off about 2-3 years ago, and ever since then have been working per-diem nuclear tech jobs, and some temp full time positions, and collecting unemployment in between.

The reason for that is because I decided to go back to school and take pre-requisite courses for Physician Assistant Masters programs. I was taking really difficult science courses (chem, bio, micro bio, organic chem, anatomy and physiology) each semester that I needed to get all A's in (which I did). Now I'm currently waiting on applications to Physician Assistant Programs which I should hear from by June 1st.

Being that income was about 20-40k/year the last 3 years (it varied greatly depending on how much I got called in at the hospital), which included unemployment, will I be considered unable to support if I don't ask my parents to co-sponsor?

So I have a bachelors in Health Science, I'm licensed to practice Nuclear Medicine in the State of New York, and I have about $15,000 in my bank account. I have no other significant debt other than my undergrad school loans which I pay.

Will I require a co-sponsor? Does the Ukrainian Embassy even accept co-sponsors?

  9. I'm in a similar situation where I haven't even filed for a K1 visa yet because at the moment I'm currently unemployed. Reason being is that I was laid off from my Nuclear Medicine position at a hospital in NYC, and I'm currently waiting to hear back from graduate programs. I am trying to go to Physician Assistant School. I'll know by June 1st if I was accepted.

If I don't then I was just gong to get another job in Nuclear Medicine and then apply, All is well.

But if I'm accepted, I won't be working for another 2 years. I'll be a full time grad student. I don't want to be away from my girlfriend for another 2 years. Can my father co-sponser with the Ukrainian Embassy?

  10. Students need to show they have the money required by their Uni, part of the I20 process. Will vary by course and Uni.

I 134 has nothing to do with it, F1 is a Student Visa, non immigrant.

I think you misunderstood me Boiler. This month I'm being interviewed for a Physician Assistant Program here in New York. If I'm accepted I'll be a full time grad student. I won't be working. From what I understand, while applying for a K1 visa, you need to prove you can support your fiance, so they won't become a "public charge".

How does that work out? If i'm technically unemployed because I'm in school can I have my family sponsor her?

  11. Do you need a different form than the I-134 for a co-sponsor, or do you just send more than one I-134? For example, let's say I get accepted to a Physician Assistant Program and start this fall. I will be technically unemployed for 2 years while I'm in school. I do have a nice chunk of money in the bank I could easily survive on for about one year minimum, and after I graduate getting a job as a Physician Assistant making about 80k-100k/year is not very difficult. Would that be a legitimate excuse for my family to co-sponsor?

Is it even okay that I ask this type of question since it's technically the "Tourist Visa" forum section?

  12. Oh I couldn't go that long without seeing her at this point. I'm definitely going back to Ukraine if she can't get any other type of visa. I leave here the 16th, it's going to be very difficult for the both of us.

As for K1, do you need to show some type of income? I am currently waiting on applications to physician assistant programs here in New York. If I get accepted, I won't be working. How will that affect things? Will I need my family to sponsor her/us?

  13. Jekt,

The only thing difficult about an international relationship is the time apart. Look at traveling to Kiev not as only fulfilling your K-1 meeting requirement, but also a chance to see a place in the world you have never been.

Your family can think you are crazy, but they will be the ones without the experience of Kiev.

My family thought I was crazy too, but once my fiancee (now wife) arived in the USA, they warmed up to her and were obviously less skeptical. So don't let your family sway your decision, they are already happily married. It's now your turn.

How long did it take for you to bring your wife over? Did you end up spending most of your time on skype with only a few visits before you got her a K1 Visa?

Also, what if you applied for a K-1 Visa, and you couldn't get married in the allotted 90 days. I understand the K-1 Visa only allows entry into the country 1 time, but is it frowned upon if you didn't get married, and reapply for another K-1 Visa?

  14. Do you know if the US embassy will check social networks? Facebook, Vkontakte? before approving a visa?

I don't know if they do. I believe I read in another thread entitled "Tourist Visa for Ukrainians" someone asked the same question and someone replied, "absolutely".

So everyone, I'm traveling to Kiev April 30th to May 16th. If all goes well, which I predict it will, I see myself getting involved in an international relationship. It scares me because #1. they're difficult enough as it is with distance. #2 sometimes I feel like it will be impossible to bring her here then I will be left with two difficult choices, take a risk and marry her, or move on with my life. My family thinks I'm crazy.

She's planning on re-applying for a tourist visa later this summer, as well as applying to masters programs, or even looking for a job if there are any available with her skillset. I may have mentioned this before.

btw, I appreciate everyone's responses and interest. I will keep you all updated, maybe post a picture or two from Ukraine.
