  1. A brief update on Malaysia police certs. I checked the online portal one month after we applied, and it says ready for collection.

We have not yet picked it up (just starting nvc). Also, they did NOT email us this update.

So, give a check to the online account after you apply -- maybe a month after. If we run into problems with picking it up, I'll update this thread.

I picked up my cert more than a month after it was ready for collection. But the date printed was not collection date, but the date the cert was ready.

I hope to get a confirmation on the cert's validity. The lady at the Wisma Putra counter told me for USA, it's valid for 6 months.

    Can anyone confirm that?

    Much appreciated. Thanks!

  2. Thank you all for the great advice!

I am in the midst of completing the form.

What do you answer for this question?

Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law

I've found mixed answers here on VJ. Some people say to put YES and some say to put NO with the explanation: NOT AT THE MOMENT BUT WILL HAVE DOCUMENTATION AT THE TIME OF VISA INTERVIEW AFTER MY MEDICAL EXAMINATION IS CONDUCTED

I just need to confirm this before I submit so any help would be much appreciated! :-)

  3. I found this discussion while researching DS-160. We've received the NVC mail saying that the case has been forwarded to the embassy in my country and I will be contacted by the embassy, and that in the meantime to complete Form DS-160 online.

My question is: Can I proceed to DS-160 before the letter (packet 3?) arrives from the embassy?

How will that affect the process? Will I not get the letter until I complete DS-160?

Hope to get some advice. Thanks!

  4. I found this discussion while researching DS-160. We've received the NVC mail with the exact same words. My question is: Do I, the beneficiary, fill up the DS-160 before or after we receive the letter from the embassy?

Hope to get some advice. Thanks!

Just thought I would share, as I am also confused and seems to be in the dark with the implementation of DS-160.

My fiance (the petitioner) got something in the mail today smile.png

    It says:

    Dear (name of petitoner),

The NVC received your fiance(e)'s approved I-129F petition from USCIS. The NVC will now forward the petition to the US Embassy or Consulate in SIngapore. The US Embassy or Consulate will contact your fiance(e) when they are ready to process his or her petition.

In the meantime, please have your fiance(e) and his or her children visit ceac.state.gov and complete Form DS-160 to apply for a K visa.

Please keep the following information for your records:

    Case Number

    USCIS Receipt Number

    Principal Applicant

    Petitioner

    Interview Location

    Sincerely,

    US Department of State

    Bureau of Consular Affairs

Waiting patiently for the Consulate here in Singapore for further instructions.

    God bless us all...

Thank you for sharing. At least I have an idea now what it looks like the notification from NVC.

  5. Hi,

I just extracted my birth certificate from Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara in KL for RM5. It was a breezy process. Took less than an hour.

The certificate is not entirely bilingual. The form is bilingual but the information is not.

    For example: Jantina Gender: Perempuan

    So, "Perempuan" is not translated.

Is that acceptable for the K1 Visa application/ interview.

Should I still get it translated?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  6. Sponsorship for a petitioner who isn't active duty military is 125%, across the board. IIRC, the I-134 is the form you'll need to file for affidavit of support for adjustment of status once you're in the US. They won't give you a K-1 unless your sponsor can support you for AOS.

(I have trouble remembering form numbers, but I know that those poverty guidelines are always, always, always what is used for family sponsorship.)

Some consulates will accept only 100% of the poverty level for an I-134, but most want the 125% because they know you will need the 125% very soon anyway for the I-864 that comes with filing AOS once you are in the US and married.

I think it is mistake to accept 100% on the I-134 and there was a post by someone just recently that was approved with 100% for the K-1 visa, but then did not have enough income to meet the 125% for the I-864. This is why I think they should change things up and accept only 125% across the board at every consulate for every case. You have to have that amount or a joint sponsor for AOS anyway.

    Thanks for the helpful replies.

Because my fiance only started as an independent contractor with a company since mid last year, we just want to make sure that we get the calculations right.

Prior to that he was travelling, and he didn't make any income for a while. But based on his average earnings per month now, he makes slightly above the 125% poverty guideline - above 20k per year for a household of 2, him and I.

His dad has agreed to be a co-sponsor, to be on the safe side. He's a retiree, but he has sufficient assets.

Will that work, in your opinion?

Does he just leave the question about employment on the I-134 form (Q7) blank and report on his bank savings, property, stocks etc...?

    Advice and tips appreciated.
