I'm going with Dalegg on this one! We did a small family engagement ceremony to celebrate the moment. It was nothing extravagant and a good way to keep the customs of the culture. Vietnamese women dream of the day they will find their special someone and have the opportunity to share in the time with family and friends.
I wish the focus of engagements and marriage wasn't so hindered by the should/should not's of the visa process. These are life events happening and they should be carried out as they would whether a visa was being petitioned or not.

As a fellow Vietnam K-1 petitioner, we viewed the engagement ring as a symbol of our love and commitment to eachother. I actually passed down an engagement ring that was given to my mother by my father 32 years ago. Her family had no spoken or hidden admissions about size, price, etc.
Let your love and commitment for each other be the light and focus of your visit!

While a few others have posted touched related questions, I have a quick question regarding the topic as well.
NOA1 I-797C receipt shows a received date of 1/3/2006.
USCIS website shows 1/06/2006 as last updated date.
Does this mean we were touched or does this mean that the case was updated on 1/06/2006 when they probably sent the NOA1?

As a fellow petitioner with a Vietnamese fiancee I have not experienced any of these types of reactions with my fiancee. However, I live/work in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and therefore I'm afforded the luxury of seeing my fiancee on a daily basis and we've thus developed a strong bond from the beginning.
I will say that she has told me several times that "the culture" is very different regarding affection in public. For example, kissing in public is a very shy experience for the Vietnamese.

Well I'm pleased to say that I already got my first NOA yesterday. It came sooner than I expected. Now what can I expect happens next? Is there any good way to know how long before they look at it? I know there is a way to check the speed your service center. Mine's in Nebraska.
Congratulations from a fellow Vietnam K-1 petitioner!
We received our NOA from Nebraska on January 3rd and are still waiting. Our NOA receipt indicated 60 to 90 days for processing through Nebraska.
Have you checked out the Vietnam VisaJourney Forum? You should pop in and get yourself added to the list.

Just be yourself! If your an average joe she's already indicated that she is more than willing to marry you for who you are.
We don't all have to be rich to have a strong and happy marriage. I've been told by my fiance time after time that she doesn't care if we ever have all the money in the world. All she wishes for is a strong and happy marriage, children and family!
I understand money is important for survival in our global society, but don't let that be the focus of your life!
I often think of a quote, of which I don't know the author, that goes like this: "If money is the focus of your life, then your life is out of focus."
