  1. Hi,

Hopefully someone can give me some pointers.

I am a UK citizen with a US citizen wife of 10 years. We’ve lived together in the U.K. for 8 years. I’ve never lived in the US.

We don’t have any sponsorship options to apply for the CR1 now.

I'm exploring applying for a transfer with my company to their US division. I think this would be an L1 visa, right?

My question is, if I was in the US with the family on an L1 visa, would it be possible to switch to a CR1 visa as my wife would be able to sponsor as she’d be working in the US and bringing in an income.

Wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with this.

    Thanks in advance,

if you are a family of 2 persons, the threshold is $22,887.

You’ll need 3x that ($68,661) in assets because you are the spouse sponsor.

Or she could find a job and move ahead of you and start work with a yearly income exceeding the threshold.

There is no limit on transferring money out of the UK. Also intent to re-establish domicile in the US is easy in London, so no problem there.

DCF as we knew it is no longer. That was submitting the I-130 petition to USCIS in London instead of USCIS in the states. They closed the London office a couple of years ago, but there are ways to get the embassy to process the whole thing.

Thank you for this response. I appreciate you spelling that out for me.

Do you know if I can use my current employment and salary to sponsor myself? I would maintain my current employment with a Dutch company upon moving to the US so I would still be employed and earning a salary. My wife and kids are all US citizens so, as far as I understand, I don't need to worry about them in terms of sponsorship.

    Appreciate your insight and advice.

  3. Hi,

My wife is a US citizen. We’ve been married for 6 years and lived in the U.K. for the entire time.

We now want to migrate to the US, and believe the direct consular filing is the best option for us.

My wife doesn’t work here, I am the primary income earner.

My question is about the financial requirements. We wouldn’t have anyone who would sponsor in terms of the affidavit of support. I know there are alternatives to

meet the financial requirements in terms of assets but I am struggling to make sense of it all.

Can anyone give me any insight to meeting the requirements without having a sponsor in the US.

    Thank you in advance,.

  4. Hi,

I know these topics have likely been covered a million times before, so I apologise for asking them again. The reason I do is that every situation is different and wanted to see if there is anyone going through or have been through this process.

I am a UK citizen. I married my US citizen wife in October 2013. We are in the process of figuring out all of the paperwork to allow us to settled in Michigan. One extra point I should note in that I have 2 children that would be coming with me. They are 10 and 5 years of age.

I wanted advice on the process, processing times, and best practices from anyone experienced with this.

We are considering the CR1 route as that would allow me to work straight away when I set foot in the US. At least that is how I understand it.

Would I have to file a seperate I-130 forms for each of my children or are they included on my form?

I also need to find out about sponsorship and/or the amount my wife needs to earn before we can start this paperwork.

Any tips or advice for this process would be appreciated.

I apologise if this is a bit scattered.

    Thank you in advance.
