Hello all, 

havent been in the forum for a while but wanted to share that I had my interview today and passed! Recommended for approval; awaiting online status to change. 

Below is is a review of my office visit. 

I was at the Fairfax office in VA. For anyone going there, parking is located behind the building and is $7 for 4 hours which should be plenty. Parking spots may be hard to come by earlier in the day (09:00-10:30). 

Entered the office and and went to the second flr. We were earlier than 30 minutes prior so the lady told me to take a seat and come back to the desk with my interview letter 30 mins before my scheduled appointment, which I did. Right around my appt time, I was called by the officer. Followed him to the office and then the following happened

firstly, asked me for my current passport, Green card, and State ID. Gave him all that and I sat down while he looked through those docs. He said he didn’t need my prior passport, but I had brought it just in case. 

He then hen asked me to stand and he put me under oath. We started with the civics questions. They were:

Name one war fought by US in 1900s

Who is the Chief Justice now?

How many voting members in the House

How many years do we elect a US Rep for

What month do we vote for President

Who is the father of our country. 

Then went on on to the simple reading and writing test. I had to write ‘We vote for President in November’. Can’t remember what I had to read, but it was unrelated to the writing portion. 

He then reviewed my application with me with me and made one correction. I had listed out my full middle name, but my GC just has my middle initial. He wasn’t concerned by it, he just updated it. He asked me some but not all of the questions on the form. 

At the end he had me sign my application in two places, and then review and sign a form that was titled ‘Certificate Preparation form’. So I guess just verifying all the information that will be on my Naturalization cert. 

he then printed out a form which said he recommended me for approval, and I should hear about the Oath ceremony in 4-6 weeks. 

He did not ask me for any of the evidence I brought with me. But I did volunteer an updated list of my trips abroad as I had left the country for 4 short trips I applied last year. He added that to my file. 

The whole interview probably took 15 minutes. A really great experience, and professional officer for sure.

Probably another few days. I assume 7 days in total from when you got the e-notification... best of luck!

I am now in-line for an interview, which is great! However, I am a question about what this actually means....

So, does being in-line mean that your case has already reached your field office and they have placed you in line? Or does it mean that the NBC have now begun the process of sending your case to your field office?

Also - any idea on how long it takes to move from in-line to receiving the interview letter (or does it depend on field office?)

If your letter is over 1 year old, I would go to a USCIS Field Office and get the stamp in your passport to be safe. As long as you are still in processing you should have no issue returning, but it is good to get all the right documentation/stamps prior to leaving the country 

You may also have to visit secondary inspection on your way back into the country; not a big deal

Hello all,

I have a question... Do USCIS generally wait until your 3 or 5 years are completed to schedule an interview? For example, I applied 90 days prior to my 3 year anniversary (marriage based), but I wonder, will they only move my case forward once the 3 years are fully complete? 

I have already had my biometrics done, but I am not ‘in line’ yet, and I wondered if that was something to do with timing of my 3 year anniversary.

Any insights?

Just sent my n-400 the good old fashioned way (mail!) today. Local office is Fairfax, VA and I sent it to the Dallas PO Box. GC date is 12/17/14. Can someone add me to the list?

Would you mind to share the location where your letter was sent from? Is it from Lee's Summit, Missouri? 

If it is in your my packages section (with tracking number) it is likely a card. My approval came from Vermont address. 

If you can see the letter in your daily list of letters it is either the approval or biometrics notice for n400

I received my approval letter today. It's dated 9/8/17. So glad it's finally here. I checked my status online earlier and it still said 'fees were waived' so there must be a delay in updating that. Hopefully I'll get the card soon! 

Congrats! It look 2 weeks for my status to change to card in Production after I received the approval letter!

I'm so glad this part is over now!

Shoot. Not sure how widely it is available. Certainly for meteopolitan areas and surrounding. I live in Charlottesville, VA which is in the back and beyond and it is available here....

to chime in on the conversation... I really do not think there is rhyme or reason why people are approved in a certain way. I assume if the adjudicating officer feels they cannot approve easily / quickly based on what they see, they probably throw it into 'come back to that' pile!

I really do think that all Sept VSC filers will hear soon! Best of luck to those waiting.

If you live in an area where Informed Delivery from USPS is available, I highly recommend you sign up. You will know the mail is coming before it hits your mailbox; that is how I found out. Also, you can then track your green card delivery without having to call USCIS, because as soon as USPS receive priority mail piece for your address it is synced with your USPS account and you know it is on the way; way before USCIS update the site I imagine!

Wait until Monday and if you do not receive it call USCIS and speak to a Tier 2 officer. They can see if your case is approved even if it is not updated online. I called to check on mine and it was approved (I had the letter too), but it was not updated online. 

Also check the box on informed delivery that says ‘I did not receive this mailpiece’. Unlikely, but if it is lost, they might be able to track it down for you. Ask your neighbors too if they got it instead of you. I live in an apartment block where mail is delivered to mailboxes and often the mailman delivers someone’s mail to my box by accident.

One thing I will say to keep your hopes up. I was approved about 4-5 days before I recieved the letter. So your letter could be in the mail now!

I think if you create an account on uscis.gov you can turn on mobile and email alerts. Although my experience, and others on Vj, is that they don't update online when a case is approved. I think they update when your card is in production, although i haven't got that far yet
