One and done baby! I requested a same-day oath for disability reasons and they said yes. (Definitely helped that Manchester, NH is not a busy FO.) After a couple of hours, I walked out with my certificate of Naturalization :dancing::jest::dancing:

  2. Hello everybody!

I just received a text and email that after almost a month being in line, I got scheduled for an interview. I'm yet to receive the formal letter in the mail.

How much time, on average, is between the time you get the notification until the actual interview?

Reason I ask is because Im travelling internationally in a couple of weeks (5/26 thru 6/2) and I would hate to have to ask to reschedule.

Any help would be appreciated it!

If you are talking about your account at uscis.gov where you login to check your case status, you are supposed to add the case there yourself once you get a NOA and have the number.

I have not had a text/email notification yet although my account shows charged yesterday. I am wondering how long it takes to get a text/email notification once they charge your account. Also not sure if the case number will be in the text/email notification - in which case you can just go ahead and add it to your account.

Yup, thats the account I was talking about....hopefully we'll get our cases number soon ?

I have sent my package on the 18th, and they received it on the 21st. My check hasn't been cashed yet. Did you use a credit card or check?

I used a credit card (shows as temporary authorization), i remember somebody told me with a check it can take an extra day or 2 until the bank clears the transaction.

Hoping for you to see the charge in your account soon!

  5. hi!, i looked for citizenship and it brought me here, i heard about the 3 year rule and thats what brought me here

My situation is similar (only a bit) to the OP,..

-i've been living in the US, and with my now wife for roughly 10ys

-got married august/2011 (3ys this august)

    - HOWEVER, just got a GC (thru AOS)

So when its time for naturalization?

will it be on my 3rd wedding anniversary? or on the 3rd anniversary of the green card (LPR)?

Please dont go for the 'go and read' comments. Thank you for taking the time to read my post

  6. We had our interview today, and we got approved!

Everyone was so friendly at the Boston office, we were scheduled for 2pm, got there at 1:45, checked in with the receptionist, who told us to wait for the IO to call my name, the room was about 70% full, so we were expecting a long wait.

About 10-15mins later, an IO comes thru the door and called my name, he said he hadnt even got time to read my AOS, and asked my wife to go in with him to review our app and that i had to wait outside...i was freaking out since i heard that the couple goes in together and if you get interviewed separately could mean they are suspicious of something.

Roughly 10mins later, he comes back out and signals me to go in, and so i did.

I got sworn in, and got asked pretty much the same questions from the AOS app, the IO was very friendly and was kind of joking thru the questions which put both, my wife and I at ease. Next he asked for my passports, i94 and EAD, and told me he would keep it because i wouldnt need it anymore because he was granting me my green card!.

  7. Agreed 100%. I took some advice from a member - Erica and Lily - and I compiled 3 binders. 1 - An accordion folder with all original documents (passports, NOA's, etc) and a second binder with photocopies of all of those and additionally, a photo album. I have over 200 pages of original documents - and i copied them all.

Section 1 - Copies of all my originally submitted application (I-130, I-485, etc)

Section 2 - USCIS Correspondence (NOA's, Biometrics, interview letter, etc...)

Section 3 - Identification (both our passports, I-94, birth certificates, drivers' license, marriage certificate, I-20's (since I was once on F1), H1B - all correspondence from USCIS), old EAD card and SS cards.

Section 4 - Co-Mingling Evidence (2013 MFJ tax return, Insurance documents, Leases from current and all past apartments, join accounts, credit cards, bills to us at our apartmentsetc)

Section 5 - Affidavits and Letters received (all letters of congrats on the wedding, Affidavits from 4 people, Letters people wrote to us saying thanks for staying at our apartment, plane tickets from places we've traveled together).

Section 6 - Finances (Both our tax transcripts dating back 3 yrs, 3 months of paystubs from our jobs, current letter of employment and business card)

Section 7 - Miscellaneous (random stuff - letters people sent inviting us to weddings, FB page showing we are in a relationship, text message communications from friends and family and still adding random stuff to this).

All this might not be necessary, but I am taking NO chances!

At first when i saw the amount of sections of your list i was like, oh boy! im way under prepared!...when i started reading it, i felt more at ease...we have everything in a hard drive, and havent printed it yet (doing so this wknd), once you start putting all the documents together, they add up super quick!

  8. I no longer have my I94 but my entry was stamped on my passport, do you think that will be a problem? I came here last 15years ago and have no idea where i put my I94 or if i received one..

I am so nervous, my interview is in few days

im not sure about this one, i came 10ys ago and got the i94 (little piece of paper the size of a credit card!) didnt notice, and washed it along with my passport. Before i started the AOS process i went ahead and got a replacement (for i102 costs $330). I wasnt able to get the number thru the site mentioned because i guess before 2005 (or maybe later?) they are not stored online.

  9. Sorry, but I'm collecting documents now and I wonder what do you mean by "immigration file"? Every notice of action, i94, visa?

You definitely have to bring your i94, the visa would be stamped on your passport, so yes to that one too, even if you have more than one passport (due to exp date) i would bring it too. It wont hurt bringing the NOAs as well. Im bringing a copy of everything sent to and received from USCIS (affidavits, translations even the forms), and photo album. Itll be a big fi, amd the IO might not even look at it, but better safe than sorry

  10. agreed to a point. Maybe the whole term 'tourist visa' should be eliminated altogether that would take most if the loophole out of the system, and divert those applicants into more specific cathegories, 'family visa'if planning on visiting family and do shopping or sightseeing- with the condition that the family in the US puts that person back in a plane at the end of their time here per visa- leisure if is vacation, or something like that, and to those specific not allow the AOS. Give the fiancee visa maybe with more time to stay, or automatic processing after getting married.

Unfortunately 'tourist visa' nowadays is an umbrella term for 'theres no specific term for your kind of visa'.

In my personal situation im adjusting from a J1,(filed i130,i485 sep) by the time we'll have our interview, it would be 10.5mo.

I do feel bad for ppl that are doing things 'by the book' and find themselves waiting a year plus to complete their process, its not fair, and should be addressed.

  11. I don't have a problem with you for going that route. It's available and legal. But I do have a big problem with the fact that the rest of us who married someone from another country cannot go through the same process and aren't allowed to be with our significant other during the long and grueling process.

Im sorry you had to go thru that. it sucks on either way! In one you are not phisically with your partner (husband or wife) while going thru the procedure.

in the other one, you have your partner wih you, but you fear every day if it was the last time you saw him/her.

If you came with an explicit intention to 'marry into a green card' thats a different story, and thats why theres an interview. You cant punish all couples because of the very few that married into a green card.

  12. ok, so christeen, has completely confused me! So shes part of the Visa Waiver program (Italy)...aka she didnt need a visa! ow can she say especially VWP on a tourist visa? i dont get it!

And im sorry AOS (Adjustment of status) covers a mariad of situations, and has its on set of rules. You still go thru the i130, med exam, biometrics, interview, hearthache and i might add extreme fear! Im sorry im in a same sex marriage, and for a lot of ppl in the same kind of scenario tourist visas, student visa, work visa, expired, overstaying the alloted time, were the only way to go.

Some ppl come with a tourist visa, falls in love, get married and overstayed wihout thinking, some others travel back and forth, and some other pay to marry somebody.

Family and love are not chosen, they chose you
