  1. I met someone online who got married 5 years ago to a person who is here on a work permit. I directed her to this site but she has concerns. She has been married and divorced multiple times before marrying this last man who is here on a work permit. if she follows guidelines it states she needs to submit divorce certificates. Does she need to submit every divorce certificate or just the most recent priror to getting married to her now current husband?

  2. Hello VJ members. I have a family dilema.

I sponsored my now husband on a fiance visa. I was the primary bread earner making good money. We got married and had a child. I was laid off from my job. My husband is working part time at 2 differnet jobs (practically min wage) but its not anywhere near the money I used to make. We cannot pay the mortgage or family bills with his income alone. I am going to apply for CalWorks if we even qualify. We have to pay our bills. Next year we have to apply to remove conditions from his temporary resident card. How will this negatively impact that process? Will he be deported even though he has a child here? will they break up a family for the unfortunate circumstances we found ourselvesn in? Or will they just ask him to find a differnet sponser? If we do qualify for CalWorks I anticipate for it to be temporary (a few months) until I find a job. We have an interview tomorrow for Calworks I just dont want to do anything wrong. We really do need assistance.

    Thank you for your guidance.

  3. Hi Shirley, I am not sure what happened in your case. I got an RFE because I was missing His letter of intent to marry. i submitted it and it was approved so I dont think if you had submitted both it wasn't that. I did not send any info about wedding arrangements or anything like that. Did you send in enough proof of a relationship such as emails, chats, pictures etc and your story how you met and fell in love?? Before you start again you want to make sure you know the real reason why it was denied. Any way good luck on your journey its just a little delayed from the inevitable if the love is authentic.

  4. thanks for the suggestions. i wish we knew exactly what can happen at this point. He barely got his EAD and is seeking employment. We haven't received a notice on the schedule date yet for his interview for AOS. Now I am concerned because I attempted to sign up for covered california and it says i am eligible for Medical. Is that public assistance? if i sign up for that will that disqualify me as a sponsor?

  5. My fiance arrived in July, we got married and applied for adjustment of status 485. filled out all the forms properly and now are waiting for a scheduling appt according to USCIS website status. But I was laid off last week. I was the sole sponsor on those forms we filled out. I have made more than enough this tax year to still qualify under the sponsor earnings requirement but will my lack of having a current employment disqualify me? What will happen at the interview? We haven't received the paperwork what we will need to bring to the interview just notice online that we are going to be scheduled and will be sent information later. What will happen next? will they ask us to find a different sponsor? Will they deny his request to change residency status? Has anyone been in this situation that might give us some insight or guidance?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide us.

  6. Have you added him to your insurance? Go to counseling together. Some people have a harder time than other adjusting to a new country/culture. If you want to help him I suggest couple counseling to help you both deal with the new changes. I am sure your having a difficult time knowing he is not happy here. There is nothing you can do to make him happy. Its his own responsibility and you have to realize that. I say speak to a counselor to help you through this stage.
