    hey guys quick question

so when your extension letter expire, did your employer ask for other proof for employment authorization?

I am thinking about getting i551 stamp bc my letter was dated nov 15th, but closest office is 3 hours away :(

Just checking to see how everyone experience was with employer when ROC pending + extension letter ...

    Thanks!!!

They never ask me either, my GC expired last year, I have been working part time with my company and decided to get a full-time job with them last Sept. but they never ask me for anything. I think our Driver's License and SSN are good enough to get a confirmation that we are eligible to work in the USA.

Unfortunately I haven't got my i551 stamp, too hard to get a schedule, I've been trying for weeks, and my letter of extension is expiring on Nov11, I hope I am still ok to work with an expired extension letter.

  2. Take control of the relationship.

Tell her "It's My Way or the Highway", Do not let her back talk you.

Tell her Women whom backtalk in USA, end up growing old living all alone with a house full of cats

This is a very interesting post.......women can speak up whatever in their minds, USA is a free country. maybe you are right they may end up growing up old and alone, but HEY! those women learned to be independent and does not need a man to control them...there's a saying " Better to live alone that with someone in hell"

  3. I understand your frustration and the best way to understand your wife is to put yourself on her shoes....

you married her, it means " for better or for worst". There's a right way to solve your problem. Does she have a job? maybe she's bored to death and need an outlet such as new friends, hobbies and you being there with her makes a lot difference, don't make her feel alone, barking on her will make things worse.

It is hard to live far from people that you grew-up, but i know she will get use to it, she just need YOU.

    Good luck!

  4. Hello VJs,

I would like to ask or get an idea regarding K2 AOS, my daughter just got here in USA 2 weeks ago and i would like to start the process for k2 AOS, if you guys can provide me the step by step for this process. Here's my questions.

    1) she had a positive tuberculine test in the Philippines ( but all X-rays are negative ) custom told us to follow-up with immigration doctor. we did ff/up last week and everything was fine, she gave us a letter /clearance.

Do we still need any other paperwork from the doctor or the clearance is enough? am i going to include the letter with my filing?

    2) I heard that we have to file for EAD to get SSN right away, is that a fact?

Thank you so much for your help and i highly appreciated!

    Regards,

  5. We got the same issue, I called my health insurance ( Kaiser ) for my daughter, and they told me that she needs to have SSN or ITIN to be included on my health insurance. I will apply for an ITIN. While waiting for her AOS, EAD. She has to have health insurance as soon as possible because getting sick is very expensive without insurance.

  6. Hello All,

My daughter successfully passed through the Philippine Immigration and no question asked regarding DSWD, my family upgraded the ticket to adult , so I added $485 and that is Ok as long as she has full assistance, a stewardess walked through with her. I am so happy someone knows the rule. But my advice to all, if you guys are not comfortable without DSWD, just get it ahead of time.

Based on my experience and from the people I spoke to ( immigration officer in Manila, DSWD and Korean air) no need for DSWD clearance for a minor holding a dependent visa ( sponsored by parents or immigrating to USA ).

She will be sitting with my friend who will be traveling with her to Las Vegas. Thank you all for your support and it is indeed a very stressful moment, well, my stress level still the same until I see her tomorrow afternoon in Vegas.

    Thank you again.

  7. ya, that's that I thought as well,

connecting all of the dots and bits

in that nasty, evil, wicked and mean

    if/then/else construct.

ie - the clearance is simply not needed, based on the VISA TYPE.

my note about 'good luck' there in Manila at the airport only stems from the brain dead immigration screeners inside of the airport.

I know what you mean - they do power trip there , specially those immigration- they come up with their own rules the last minute and someone ended up off loaded. Well what I did is called the Korean Air, requested a full assist for my daughter, I have to pay $100 per segment, total of $200 because she have 1 stop over. That way they are not going to ask for more clearance, even though my friend will be traveling with her the whole flight. I will keep you guys updated. Thanks!

  8. Have your friend hand the packet and visa of your daughter to the immigration officer and not say anything more than a greeting until spoken to. Answer any questions honestly and with confidence. I would not offer the authorization letter till asked for. Then produce the document. Be respectful.

This is the best they will be able to do. There is nothing here that is illegal, and when asked for supporting documents you have the letter from the Embassy in LA and any additional documents that you have prepared. Take a big deep breath and wait for the phone call that says they are getting on the plane. Then do a dance with some yelping and howling going on. :dancing:

thank you so much Greenbaum for your positive support!

  9. an immigration officer at the airport in Manila ? ok - well, good luck with that.

CBP (in the USA) staffers see K2's coming in each week, not really pay attention to much more than the visa stamp in the passport and the visa packet that the K-2 is handing over.

I just called the bureau if immigration trunk line in the Philippines and they said only tourist visa minor are being ask for DSWD clearance , and yes good luck to me, because it's too late for us get DSWD , she is leaving on Monday.

  10. You missed this part: "A minor traveling to a foreign country with either parent or with his or her solo parent or legal guardian".

Does a friend qualify as legal guardian? Just curious.

I hope it all goes well for your child. Keep us posted.

Actually she is not the legal guardian, she is going to tour in USA, and because she's coming here, I asked her to be a companion of my daughter, I got a letter and a clearance from philippine consulate here in USA and its authenticated, CFO and DSWD says that my daughter is on dependent visa so she doesn't need DSWD clearance. But I am just curious and nervous if they encounter "not very nice immigration officer " and they won't allow her to travel to join me here in USA

  11. Hello VJs,

I would like your input on ths situation, my daughter is traveling to USA on Monday w/ my friend who is on tourist visa, i will not be able to accompany her because of work, i got a clearance from Philippine embassy with my letter(authenticated by the consul here is California), i didnt get DSWD clearance because per rules and regulation below, she is exempted, does any of you had experience like this? i will not be able to secure DSWD because its too late, but i hope someone could give me a feed back.

I am suddenly worried that my daughter will be stop at the departure area, because she does not have DSWD, i have printed the rules and regulation of DSWD and attached it to the clearance she have, and i hope everything will work out. Thank you VJs for reading this message and providing me input and experience.

WHO DOES NOT NEED TRAVEL CLEARANCE? All minors other than those cited above, for example: A minor traveling to a foreign country with either parent or with his or her solo parent or legal guardian; A minor traveling abroad whose parents are in the Foreign Service or living abroad or are immigrants, provided he/she is holding a valid pass such as a dependents visa/pass/identification card or permanent resident visa/pass/identification card which serves as proof that he/she is living with parents abroad and their travel does not constitute child trafficking.

Other Frequently Asked QuestionsARE THE FOLLOWING MINORS EXEMPTED FROM SECURING A TRAVEL CLEARANCE? A minor with permanent residency card A minor who holds a valid pass such as dependents visa/pass/identification or permanent resident visa/pass/identification card is no longer required to secure travel clearance from DSWD. A permanent residency card is a valid pass and a holder of such is exempted from securing a travel clearance
