  1. First...basic info...I am American and my husband is Swedish...we both have been living/working in Sweden for the last 3 yrs and plan to move to Pennsylvania once his application process is done and approved.

From what I have read...after he has had his interview, and is given the sealed envelope, he/we have 6 months to enter the US.

My questions is...Do we have to enter via an airport?

One way tickets from Sweden to the US are ridiculously expensive and it is cheaper to fly one way to Canada and then drive to the US boarder, entering via Niagara Falls.

Can he get his stamp in his passport at the Canadian boarder?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

  2. Wow...5 times?

I had read on another site that i needed 3 times the poverty level.

Do you have a link i can read that lists that number?

Also...I say 3 people but my daughter is American...born in the US and came with me to Sweden...does she need to be counted in the numbers?

I hope that doesn't seem like a silly question but one never knows and it shouldn't hurt to ask. :-)

  3. Thank you for your answer.

Do you know the minimum i need to have in the bank, for a family of 3, to meet their requirements?

I read somewhere that you need 3 times the poverty level but i have looked at so many websites, that i am not sure what is true or not.

We own a house and other assets in Sweden, which we will obviously sell, so we will have quiet a bit of money in the bank when we want to move.

Will that be good enough or do I HAVE to have a job before we are approved?

Again, thank you for any help.

  4. My husband was married previously and we have to translate his Swedish divorce papers to English.

My questions is, can just anyone translate these divorce papers and attach the following:

    Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

    Signature_________________________________
    Date Typed Name
    Address

OR does it have to be a paid "professional"?

    Thank you for any help.

  5. Hello

I am looking for some advice on how I should go about applying for me, my American daughter (born in the US; we moved to Sweden about 3 yrs. ago), and my Swedish husband (we will have been married 2 years in June and we were married in the US but he has never lived there) to move back to the US.

After looking at all the US Gov. Websites, I know I have to fill out an I-130 to begin the process but can I do that while still living in Sweden?

If I can file my I-130 while still living in Sweden, once approved, do I then have to move back to the US, with my daughter, and obtain a job before we apply for the next step?

I have read that you can have sponsors but does the process go faster if the petitioner has an established income when applying for the visa vs. having a sponsor?

(I have a Nursing license, so I am not worried about finding a job quickly, if I move back. I would just like us all to come together if possible.)

Thank you, in advance, for any help in this.
